gostsamo··on They’re made out of weights
Read the original mentioned on top for full effect.
gostsamo··on Canada to order military plane fleet from Sweden in shift from US suppliers
yes. that's why people don't trust russian banks and institutions, but trust european ones.
gostsamo··on EU fines Temu €200M for allowing sale of illegal products
The fine is for activity in the EU, so compare it to their business there. Comparing apples to advertisement fliers is useful only if you are using the fliers as toilet paper substitutes.
gostsamo··on Canada to order military plane fleet from Sweden in shift from US suppliers
the gp asked for confiscation and property rights are pretty fundamental. especially if you are acting as a trustee not only for russian money but for many others who are watching how you are doing your job.
gostsamo··on Canada to order military plane fleet from Sweden in shift from US suppliers
confiscating money is much bigger deal than you can imagine. Russia and the EU are not officially at war and just taking money because you can is a serious violation of fundamental rights.
gostsamo··on The just-say-no engineer was a ZIRP phenomenon
This is a nice narrative, but without real world test cases, reads like yet another fanfiction on the internet.
gostsamo··on Book Review: On the Calculation of Volume
Currently reading a web novel called The Years of Apocalypse. Very similar vibe and though it does not have the same literary aspirations as this one, also goes deep in the existential horror of the time loop and the alienation of your old self pinpoint in a constantly moving away past. Time loops are a fractal like that - a very simple idea and one chooses how deep to examine the repeating pattern. Also, seems to follow similar tropes in order to maintain some momentum.
gostsamo··on The memory shortage is causing a repricing of consumer electronics
The issue with national investment in the EU is that it might be attacked as state sponsored activity where one can complain that public money are used for market moves or if it is EU wide initiative, then the governments will squabble whose economy will get the money. The framework is not mature enough to allow for delegating to someone to solve the problem for everyone and to balance the beneficiaries in the long term.
gostsamo··on Apple unveils new accessibility features
If you are dedicated, few weeks to few months of usage with regular ramp up. You should be careful with adjusting which symbols are read though and sometimes the programing languages matters because different symbols have different significance for understanding the code.
gostsamo··on Accelerando (2005)
Also, the mc was using python to write his ai scripts, if I remember it correctly.
gostsamo··on The main thing about P2P meth is that there's so much of it (2021)
I believe the gp meant the last few decades and the crisis that culminated with the Purdue trial.
gostsamo··on Traces Of Humanity
The author was known with a secure os project some years ago.
gostsamo··on What if new proofs are included in LLM training so LLM rediscover it?
test only on data generated after the training has ended.
gostsamo··on Light without electricity? Glowing algae could make it possible
if the output is consistent, could be used for producing biofuel or plastic.
gostsamo··on Inventing Cyrillic (2024)
Slav comes from slovo == слово which means word or speech, a.k.a slavs are people who can talk to each other which is a pattern in many other ethnic groups about differentiating between themselves and outsiders. Немци or mutes are those who cannot speak the language.
gostsamo··on Rumors of my death are slightly exaggerated
Cheers to the Pratchett reference. :)
gostsamo··on Ombudsman column: The Pentagon is trying to silence me
Can you give some more context? I looked into Wikipedia and the relevant text there is giving different vibe:

> Charles XII was in exile in Turkey and needed a representative in Sweden to ensure that judges and civil servants acted in accordance with the laws and with their duties. If they did not do so, the Supreme Ombudsman had the right to prosecute them for negligence.

gostsamo··on Newton's law of gravity passes its biggest test
You might be interested in that. We have observations of galaxies where dark matter likely is not present.

gostsamo··on UK Fuel Price Intelligence – Market analytics from reporting stations
Reuters had a material on the topic. The big producers have trading desks that can optimise based on spot prices and redirect tankers as needed.
gostsamo··on Investors pile into clean energy as Iran war drives push for energy security
and what if they can use your inverter to destabilize not only your netwrok, but the local grit as well? and how far it can go if sychrnoized with malicious intend?
gostsamo··on I rebuilt my blog's cache. Bots are the audience now
The writership of the blog is also changed and seems to be mostly machine as well. It is painful to read something that lacks human presence on the other side.
gostsamo··on Investors pile into clean energy as Iran war drives push for energy security
It can stop working properly if the chinese panel is encryption locked to a chinese cloud which is the case with many residential installations.
gostsamo··on AISLE Discovers 38 CVEs in OpenEMR Healthcare Software
> This is actually a pretty good example of the value of AI security scanners

Are you fuckin' serious? This would be caught with any self-respecting scanner even 5 years ago and with most educated juniors even earlier.

I use AI every day, but I'm not deep enough in the dilulu to believe that everything above two brain cells should be a transformer.

gostsamo··on Meetings are forcing functions
> There’s a lot of meeting hate here

meetings have their role, but the hate at least in my case is when they become a distraction and/or a waste of time. They are susceptible to the organizer and to the highest ranking person in the room and many managers are not up to the task of doing it correctly.

gostsamo··on Men who stare at walls
here it is, not sure where you can find the text unless you traverse the high seas. I've read it in a story collection called after Azazel.

gostsamo··on Men who stare at walls
I remember an Asimov short story about a guy who wished that he never waits on queues or for a taxi or for something to happen. He had his wish granted and deeply regretted it for it stall from him the moments of contemplation where his best ideas were coming from.
gostsamo··on Meta tells staff it will cut 10% of jobs
Meta promised to buy dc capacity for ai workloads. If I remember it correctly, it created a common company with an investment fund as well that took on debt to build capacity.

You calculate the cutoffs as savings for this years while imagining that the future payments are payments only for this year. At the same time the commitments are for 5-20 years ahead and the laid off people would be off the payroll for the same multiple years ahead.

gostsamo··on Scoring Show HN submissions for AI design patterns
I'm blind and accessibility is important to me. It is extremely disrespectful to see someone who just says "fuck you" and feels good about it. Please, at least consider that the world is bigger than you imagine and there is place for everyone in it and there is no need to be purposefully rude.
gostsamo··on Israeli soldiers using sexual assault to force Palestinians out of West Bank
The evangelists in the US support Israel imagining that there is a special relationship between christians and jews. Many jews in Israel seem to find this useful and try not to contradict them while remaining hateful fanatics at heart. Stories like this one show a glimps at what is going on and therefore are worth pointing out when surfacing. They frame the murders, and sexual assaults, and destruction as the ethnic cleansing fueled by greed and hate toward anyone else that it is.
gostsamo··on Israeli soldiers using sexual assault to force Palestinians out of West Bank
The christian supporters of Israel can also think a bit about the itf soldiers destroying a statue of Jesus in Lebanon if they want to understand what they are supporting. Useful idiots doesn't even start to describe it.
