goshakkk··on How to lose $950 quickly on Airbnb
This is correct. I had an issue with an Airbnb at some point that Airbnb was struggling to resolve. When I said "whatever, I'll just dispute the charge", the rep said that it is their policy to permanently suspend an account when a user initiates a chargeback. Not "may" but "definitely will". The issue did end up getting resolved after countless phone calls and escalating the issue to supervisors of supervisors but

goshakkk··on Research helps explain how Ritalin sharpens attention
I don't think you'd be able to find Desoxyn outside of the US (and ever here it's incredibly rare to get it prescribed & then also successfully fill it at a pharmacy). Most of the EU has negative attitudes towards ADHD meds, especially immediate release ones. AFAIK, the only amphetamine many countries have is Vyvanse, because it's XR and "abuse resistant". I was actually doing some research about whether I will be able to keep getting Desoxyn if I move back outside of the US (anywhere, really) and the answer seems to be a NO. I think NZ/AU might have a special scheme for giving a person an exception when other treatments have failed, but that's about it.
goshakkk··on Research helps explain how Ritalin sharpens attention
Can confirm. Desoxyn is the only stimulant that works for me. Other stimulants usually do less in terms of positive effects _and_ have more side effects. Vyvanse was probably my second best so far, though it was still unpleasant and if I didn't land on Desoxyn, I'm not sure I would be putting up with Vyvanse. Adderall was a fucking hell.

I’ve been doing a lot of mobile and front-end work past couple of years, but I know my way around back-ends, architecture, deployment as well.

You can see my some of past works & references here: http://goshakkk.name/works/

I keep a blog about React Native & React (http://goshakkk.name) and have self-published a book about forms in React (http://goshakkk.name/the-missing-forms-handbook-of-react/).

A bunch of buzzwords because apparently everyone needs them: React Native, React, Hooks, JavaScript, Flow, TypeScript, MobX, Redux, Ruby, Rails, PostgreSQL, Haskell, type systems.

Note: my handle has nothing to do with the kkk.

I see how programming is just connecting business objectives with reality, not a craft unto itself. Languages are all the same to me. (I also wrote toy languages and primitive type systems.)

goshakkk··on Telegram plans multi-billion dollar ICO for chat cryptocurrency
You can (for now?) do that with the official Telegram X app though (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/telegram-x/id898228810?mt=8)
goshakkk··on Show HN: Chirr App splits text into tweets and posts it as a thread
It's good. One thing I feel is missing is embedding images into the tweets. Are there any plans for that?
goshakkk··on Should you store your form state in Redux?
You can't always know in advance, and that's perfectly cool. The bigger point I'm making is, put things into Redux only once they become global.

It could be argued that migrating to Redux can be non-trivial, but there are certain things you can do to ease the potential transition.

In particular, there is nothing stopping you from applying the Redux approach on the scale of just one component, by not mutating the state in the component directly, but instead by creating small "action reducer" functions which return the new state. Kinda similar to what ReasonML with React tries to do.

Roughly something along the lines of:

    function changeEmail(state, event) {
      return { ...state, email: event.target.value };
    }

    class FormComponent extends Component {
      // ...
      handleEmailChange = (evt) => {
        this.setState(state => changeEmail(state, evt));
      };
    }
Afterwards, it's easy to migrate this to Redux:

1. Instead of `setState(state => changeEmail(...))` you would dispatch an action.

2. Instead of getting the current value from this.state you would get it from this.props.

3. The `changeEmail` function can trivially become a branch in the form's reducer function.

goshakkk··on You don't need a tutorial for every-freaking-thing
My objective was not clickbait. I want to help beginners to help themselves—that's one of the things that will pay them off in the long run.
goshakkk··on Ask HN: Swift or Objective-C for new iOS app in 2017?
Depends on the app, but for most I'd say React Native will be suitable.

I used to do native iOS apps in the past, but I've always been more of a web developer than native. This winter, I did a client project in React Native (http://goshakkk.name/works/12min-mobile/) and the experience has been very positive on the iOS side (RN + Android is another story...)

Almost everything you know about React.js holds true in RN. The CSS-like styling and layout with Flexbox are a godsend. ES6 with Flow is type safe, mostly.

goshakkk··on Ask HN: Our launch is trending on Product Hunt – now what?
Capturing an email allows to build an ongoing connection. It's easier to sell if you have proven to be useful on the small scale (free articles & advice), than to expect people to buy something as fundamental as a UI framework right off.
goshakkk··on Ask HN: Our launch is trending on Product Hunt – now what?
Try content marketing? Blog some focused pieces on native mobile dev in general and what sucks, then show how your product makes everyone's lives better and saves the day.

Set a schedule and post, that's the way people will see your name from time to time, and after seeing it for 10 or 20 or 50 times, might want to try. Get on their radar.

See Auth0's blog [1], even though they sell one-click auth, they have a lot of neat content on front-end frameworks and so on.

goshakkk··on Making custom renderers for React
My intention was to create a custom renderer from scratch instead of using an existing one. To learn more about how that stuff works, but also because react-canvas and react-art felt like too much.

I didn't want anything to get in my way, so what I made in Pabla really only exposes the canvas primitives. (Oh, and I also got to make my own text wrapping function.)

All in all, the point of the post is to fill the void in the custom renderers space, first and foremost; not to sell Canvas.jsx from Pabla :)
