gooosle··on I Met Paul Graham Once
You attribute all of that exclusively to a small group of tech ceos?

That's completely absurd, but let's see the data on that.

> This generation of "robber barons" has very clearly done more good for society than any other group of people

By what metric?

500ms p75 is not good for the (low) complexity of the shopify app.

Also reporting p75 latency instead of p99+ just screams to me that their p99 is embarrassing and they chose p75 to make it seem reasonable.

gooosle··on Five years of React Native at Shopify
They mention later in the article that the 500ms is p75.

Realistically 50ms p75 should be achievable for the level of complexity in the shopify app.

gooosle··on Five years of React Native at Shopify
The 500ms number is p75 - not worst case at all.

200ms round trip is like 10x more than what's reasonably possible.

Same with your other numbers.

First of all exposing IDs and having non-enumerable IDs are completely different things.

Second, HN usernames are 100% enumerable. 'asdfgf' is an example of account which has never posted.

gooosle··on Show HN: Kate's App
What safeguards? Obfuscating your IDs by... replacing them with one-to-one mapped other IDs?

What's wrong with that?

> When someone comes around demanding that others provide them with information they can easily look up

TIL 'please give examples/evidence' === demanding.

You're so dishonest and insecure it's hilarious.

gooosle··on 93-year-old YouTuber back in business after being kicked off platform
Maybe consider the fact that multiple people called you out for being rude and contributing nothing to the conversation, and the fact that your silly tantrum was flagged and removed, before you go around critiqueing other people's 'tone'.

Learn to have an honest conversation, without being rude, before you give others advice.

You're insecure and you're projecting, and it's obvious.

> Can you explain the difference then?

Do you really need me to explain the difference between'specific regulations that force YouTube to take this specific action' vs 'regulations that may affect youtube'?

> I suggested a path for you to educate yourself, again pointing out that resources are available to you so you can learn things for yourself without demanding them from others.

Wow thank you for the amazing suggestions and letting me know that search engines exist! Apparently it wasn't enough for you to be able to answer the question asked though, and the only thing you were able to contribute was this passive aggressive tale about how you tried to Google something.

By the way - when someone claims that there are certain regulations behind decisions/actions it's totally okay to ask what those specific regulations are. Your little tantrum adds absolutely nothing to the conversation, and this hilarious comment of yours trying to explain away this tantrum only serves to underline the fact that you're not even trying to have an honest/sincere conversation.

gooosle··on 93-year-old YouTuber back in business after being kicked off platform
I asked for a very specific thing, not 'regulations that impact youtube'. The fact that you're telling me about your little search engine adventure without actually sharing a single link/specific regulation, says a lot.
gooosle··on 93-year-old YouTuber back in business after being kicked off platform
You keep alluding to these regulatory restrictions which supposedly force this kind of behavior from Google - please go ahead and tell us what those are.
gooosle··on 93-year-old YouTuber back in business after being kicked off platform
Give me a single example of laws in any jurisdiction that require this user to be banned.

There was absolutely no reason to ban in this case and you know it. If there was one video where rules were unintentionally broken, and the user has no history of that before, you remove the video, not completely ban the user.

gooosle··on 93-year-old YouTuber back in business after being kicked off platform
You start by not banning people for nothing.
gooosle··on 8 months of OCaml after 8 years of Haskell in production (2023)
People often say that before they realize how complex and messy real-world Haskell looks like. The indentation-based rules aren't even defined anywhere except via imperative code in the implementation.

Which countries are those? All western car manufacturers are backed by the state as far as I'm aware.

> The obesity epidemic cannot be reduced to some simple moral failure.

You're the only one to bring up morality so far in this comment chain.

> Those of us who are fortunate enough to not struggle with obesity do so not because of some skillset that we have, but because our bodies do not maintain the same homeostasis.

That's just utter bullshit. Homeostasis is heavily influenced by lifestyle choices.

> But this flat-earth-like notion of reducing obesity to an issue of basic willpower needs to be recognized for the drivel it is,

No, your incessant need to convince yourself and everyone else that something as straightforward as controlling your calorie intake is in fact a complex and naturally intractable problem that requires drugs and counseling is what's flat-earth-like drivel and utter bullshit.

> If you want to educate yourself, read Posner’s Burn [1], which is firmly grounded in empirical measurements of doubly labeled water to measure true metabolic consumption.

You're cherry picking terrible studies that happen to fit the preconceived notions you desperately want to believe, because they make you feel better about being undisciplined and weak-willed. Your understanding of nutrition, exercise and health are also clearly very minimal.

gooosle··on How long til we're all on Ozempic?
Most of the obese people I know are completely clueless about nutrition and exercise (even though they think they know a lot).
gooosle··on How long til we're all on Ozempic?
All you're saying is the it's harder to make some choices depending on situation. They are still 100% choices. Choices don't have to be trivially easy.
gooosle··on How long til we're all on Ozempic?
You don't need any 'ability' to not stuff donuts in your hole.
gooosle··on How long til we're all on Ozempic?
Someone with high self control that wants to be non-obese, has a nearly 100% chance of accomplishing that goal. Literally by definition.
gooosle··on How long til we're all on Ozempic?
You need to change your attitude if you want to lead a healthy lifestyle. Don't blame your failures and CHOICE to eat junk and not exercise on weed. You know what the healthy choices are, you know when you're not making them. You lack self control.

Really? Language models can spit out entire CRUD apps with UI, DB, auth/z, constraints/validation?

More like 'language models can kinda build 5% of a CRUD app somewhat correctly sometimes'.

Would love to be proven wrong tho.
