gooodvibes··on Ask HN: How much of your dev work is vibecoding now?
Using AI assistance != vibe coding
gooodvibes··on Ask HN: Anyone working on bringing software back from US clouds?
They're not. Most companies, teams, people don't care about this.
gooodvibes··on A teen was suicidal. ChatGPT was the friend he confided in
This behavior comes from the later stages of training that turn the model into an assistant, you can't blame the original training data (ChatGPT doesn't sound like reddit or like Wikipedia even though it has both in its original data).
gooodvibes··on Ask HN: What is the biggest problem LLMs solved in your life/work?
> I have been thinking about this, and don’t have a proper answer for myself.

Because it's the wrong question!

It's not that LLMs solve entire classes of life/work problems. Instead, they take some life/work task (coding, ideas generation, learning about new topics, personal reflection) and make them x% easier, y% faster, z% better.

gooodvibes··on Traps to Developers
> There are subtle differences between numpy and pytorch.

This isn't really a trap, and it doesn't help anyone; it looks like "I got burned but I don't want to share the specifics".

gooodvibes··on ChatGPT-5 System Prompt Leaked
It definitely still does the opt-in suggestions at the end, and that seems perfectly appropriate in some cases.
gooodvibes··on Ask HN: Are leetcode interviews going away?
Leetcode was never about being similar to real work. Companies aren't stupid - they know it's different and still think that they get useful signal from testing skills that don't match the day-to-day of the job. Whether that's appropriate or not is where the actual debate around the value of Leetcode is; the debate isn't whether leetcode is like day-to-day work, nobody is claiming that it is.

And LLMs don't make the difference you think they make to the viability of LC interviews. Before LLMs, you could solve an interview problem by looking it up in a database with solutions. Or (in real work) you solve these algorithmic problems by importing a library. LLMs are just the (n+1)th way to do the same thing.

Where LLMs play some role is that they make cheating in remote leetcode interviews easier.

gooodvibes··on Ask HN: Best way to get a land line for my kids?
> I am hopeful this will mean they don't "just need to text someone"

This is naive. They'll want their phones just as much as before. The landline won't make any difference.

Maybe the goal is to entertain your children? "Oh dad and his 1980s technology, what a goofball"

gooodvibes··on ChatGPT 5 is slow and no better than 4
Not having the choice to use the old models is a horrible user experience. Taking 4o away so soon was a crime.

I don’t feel like I got anything new, I feel like something got taken away.

gooodvibes··on Tell HN: I underestimated how lonely building solo can be
I get a bit miffed if I go a full day working remotely without any meetings, I can't imagine signing up for this all day every day with no end in sight.
gooodvibes··on Why Exercise Is a Miracle Drug
Hyper-...? I don't think you get how optimized and hyper-optimized exercise can get.

I'm talking about the basics. For anyone who wants to get benefit from exercise. If you think you're getting those benefits in some other way, you're lying to yourself or you don't understand what we're talking about.

gooodvibes··on Why Exercise Is a Miracle Drug
I'm not suggesting hyper-optimization. I'm suggesting a basic exercise program which includes resistance training and cardio.
gooodvibes··on Why Exercise Is a Miracle Drug
You're wrong about this. It's very clear, and some of the evidence is presented in the original article here.
gooodvibes··on Why Exercise Is a Miracle Drug
There are positive physical and mental change that happen with more intensive cardio and with resistance training that you can't get from walking no matter how much you walk. And there's nothing herculian about those modes of exercise.
gooodvibes··on Ask HN: AI Chat Agent vs. Traditional Personal Website?
I asked it for everything it knows and it spat out your resume - isn't it better UI (not to speak of simpler/cheaper/faster implementation) to just link to your resume instead?
gooodvibes··on Psilocybin treatment extends cellular lifespan, improves survival of aged mice
It's so unnecessary though. You can just eat them as they are, no need to fuss around with grinding and soaking.
gooodvibes··on Psilocybin treatment extends cellular lifespan, improves survival of aged mice
Nice. Although even if it shortened it, it would still be worth taking.
gooodvibes··on Ask HN: What's Your Spirituality?
Regular meditation and psychedelic use. (Are these spiritual? Not sure if spiritual is a helpful world.)

The meditation practices I follow are taken directly from Buddhism and a lot of core Buddhist principles and ethics make a lot of sense to me but I don't call myself Buddhist or accept every single thing in the Buddhist tradition.

gooodvibes··on Ask HN: What's your most unpopular dev opinion?
Rust has a horrendous developer experience and companies and teams investing in it are making a huge mistake.
gooodvibes··on Ask HN: What's your most unpopular dev opinion?
I can see being annoyed by a software engineer calling themselves "engineer" without the qualifier. But almost nobody does that, it's always "software engineer" - take it as a whole term instead of getting hung up on the word engineer being in it.

And if a person

1. lives in a jurisdiction where the restrictions on the "engineer" label don't apply

2. has a job and the job title in their contract is "software engineer"

what should they do according to you - not use their actual job title out of reverence for the professional standards of people with a different profession in a different country?
