googledocsftw··on Silicon Valley, the new lobbying monster
It all assumes the candidate is the queen bee. They are now the worker bee. The superpac sets the rules, the candidate follow to get elected. That is the example in thw article, well actually more meta: it was a flex by crypto to show them they are a new mafia. They get many for the price of one.

Is a voter more like a VC: invest in the person not the idea (aka policy). Although the policies and how they are communicated are of course part of how you judge. I think everyone knows election promises are just promises.
googledocsftw··on Silicon Valley, the new lobbying monster
A superpac has no bidders. It influences voters.

To even get power you now need to nod to crypto, nod to a certain middle eastern country and so on. Eventually politicians will be entirely impotent suits. Look at the current "choice" the electorate has.

Crypto people care about the price. They know it cannot be a mainstream currency because of how wasfeful, slow or insecure it is (pick 1+ depending on the coin) so really BTC/USD number goes up makes us richer is the game. Also encouraging degen gambling is the game. As is Ponzi. All of which makes insiders money.

The best coup would be Bitcoin as a gold that backs USD. This would force the price up well above a million. It might also make the world dark. $1 per kwh. $10 per kwh and so on.

Other coups would be lebanon style power interruptions while energy is diverted to mining with various subsidies.

Read from every server is not necessarily possible, unless we assume no network partitions.

googledocsftw··on Congress fights to keep AM radio in cars
Emergency blanket requires no training but people need to know it exists and how well it can solve the problem of being cold. And also yeah you get soaked in your own condensed sweat.

A bit of crackle and you wanna throw out AM?
googledocsftw··on Ask HN: What type of Auth are you using on your side projects?
I wonder how many apps could get by being front end only (static site) and delegating auth+storage to dropbox (and similar).
googledocsftw··on Ask HN: What type of Auth are you using on your side projects?
Allauth is great. It has so many feature flags for all the microdecisions you want to tune. Social account merges with email account or not... it is configurable! Email confirmation required? Configurable! And it just works.
googledocsftw··on Ask HN: What have been the previous trends in tech?
They still are.
googledocsftw··on Ask HN: What have been the previous trends in tech?
SOAP - an XML communication protocol - was big back in the early 2000s. Although no where near the scale of AI! Kind of an insiders trend.
googledocsftw··on Ask HN: Where would you publish content that should outlive you?
Onus will be on them to maintain the data. Or write for the new york times or similar.

https://play.tailwindcss.com is good because there is likely going to be no enshittification to chase dollars. The make money from courses and frameworks.

React, like Haskell creates new problems you need sophisticated solutions for.

CDN is for content. Useless for say a Google search type problem. So I call an API endpoint for data in my component. But what if I get rendered 600 times? Well luckily I have memoized the call! As long as it was under 2Mb that is.

googledocsftw··on Do We Need a 37-Cent Coin? (2009)
LLM I am guessing.

It likes to talk about Maya's various organs. Alot!

Ahhh. A VISA card then :)

Then your cash becomes a store of value. Exactly what the government doesn't want. Not least as people will make a living melting down coins as the governments expense.

The closer to zero, the less like a nation you are. Can you have say 10m people, an elected government that cant do much and then corporations do the rest?
googledocsftw··on Rust needs a web framework
Ok I will bite. How did you manage to get scripts to defer?
googledocsftw··on Rust needs a web framework
1. Lots of dead ends. Fetch cache limit for example. Cant replicate prod page caching behaviour in dev. Etc. Many issues with 100 thumbs get abandoned.

2. NodeJS. Not everyone likes it.

3. It is slow. Yes it is! Try to get good web metrics with Next I dare you!

4. Premature release of App Router. Will they do something like that again.

googledocsftw··on Gleam Is Pragmatic
C# (or more precisely .NET libraries) does it using reflection. Attributes let you adjust the behaviour.
googledocsftw··on Ask HN: What old video games did you love that haven't left a large footprint?
Repton. It ran on an 8bit 1mhz BBC/Acorn conputer and a later version had its own programmming language called Reptol!
googledocsftw··on The X-Files Game
That review is amazing. I am not into movies or games much but that is so well written that I had to read it all!

What do you mean? Maybe they changed their profile since your comment but it just has a .at.hn address which everyone has (at.hn is independently operated outside of yc).
googledocsftw··on Ask HN: What should I buy in Japan?
Is it better than Uniqlo in other counties? Uniqlo in Australia is really good.
googledocsftw··on We're excited about our new roundabout
Yes. If there are 2 it should be a "dog bone" with a long straight bit so you have time to adjust. Like:

     | |
    =O============O=
googledocsftw··on We're excited about our new roundabout
How is a roundabout more disruptive than a 4 way junction with stop signs.

In terms of brain processing, you get used to it and it becomes second nature. It is a skill.

Except I can do things today that were not possible in 1999 like easily collaborate on a google doc realtime with someone on the other side of the planet, get an automated grammar expert to suggest edits and then have a video call with 15 people to discuss more about it. All in the same app, the browser, all on a whim, all high speed and to boot: all for free as in beer. And this is run of the mill YaaaaawN productivity tools.

I can also create a web scale app in a weekend using AWS. It is just insane what we can do now vs. 1999. I remember in early 2000s Microsoft boasting how it could host a site for the olympics using active server pages. This was PR worthy. That would be a side project for most of us now using our pocket money.
