goodburb··on Android App Devs now require 20 people to test before publishing to Play Store
I wish there was a desktop equivalent of this app, time to fork RcloneBrowser ;)
goodburb··on Android App Devs now require 20 people to test before publishing to Play Store
What happens to apps that are IoT/Bluetooth-only requiring hardware? Is demo mode enough?

Will there be detailed documentation other than a blogpost?

goodburb··on Lightweight Linux Distributions for Older PCs
Porteus editions boots to RAM, you can unplug flash drive, and plug only when saving same with PuppyLinux.

Both support modified Chromium for OOTB hardware video acceleration, known laptop backlight tweaks and fit on 1GB flash drive with 40% free space.

goodburb··on DIY PEEK (polyetheretherketone) 3D Printer
No. PEEK is printed slow and as with anything all designs have flaws; this would have been difficult with other kinematics with this amount of heat. E.g: most of the electronics/motors are in the bottom, less lateral area to heat etc...
goodburb··on Orange Pi Zero 2 W (clone) released: WiFi 5, Type-C, 1-4GB RAM, 28nm Quad at $13
The 24-pin expansion FPC connector (used for camera on the Raspberry) offers USB, GPIO, Ethernet and more freeing the 40 pin header for other uses.
goodburb··on TH3P4G3 Thunderbolt eGPU Dock Review (2022)
PCIe 4.0 looks promising for completely eliminating the large bottleneck with eGPUs.
goodburb··on Self-hosted photo and video backups directly from your mobile phone
Beware that edits, portraits and some custom photo modes aren't currently downloaded. And modifying an edit twice or more will not sync. (no modtime or chksum)
goodburb··on Sync and Backup Google Photos in original quality
"Currently, the Google Photos API does not allow downloading photos in their original quality. Google Takeout is slow and manual, and it does not support incremental photo downloads."
goodburb··on Petition to Apple iCloud: Add app-specific API and Enable Seamless Data Backup
Regarding icloudpd, it isn't that difficult to maintain without official support, still waiting for syncing photo edits, shared albums[1], and saved live photo frame. It's stuck on old pyicloud fork.

Use a snapshot storage if it decides to wipe your iCloud and local files ;)

[1] Works with icloud-photos-sync, but it doesn't save session cookies requiring MFA on each use.

goodburb··on Sigmastar S20X SoM: Dual Core 1.2GHz,128MB RAM,WiFi at 3x3cm Footprint
Compared to the smallest Allwinner SoM (DDR2 integ.) it's quarter the footprint & quarter the power consumption with double the memory and dual core. It seems like you're talking about SBC, not SoM...
goodburb··on [dead]
thanks
goodburb··on Merge and Combine 2 PDF Recto / Verso In-Browser
Was pretty difficult to find a tool for AFD non-duplex scanning. No upload required.
goodburb··on ExtRact: Rclone for Android with task scheduler and encrypted folders
Rclone is a program to manage files on cloud storage. It is a feature-rich alternative to cloud vendors' web storage interfaces. Over 40 cloud storage products support rclone including S3 object stores, business & consumer file storage services, as well as standard transfer protocols.

Rclone supports folder/file encryption & obfuscation as well as VFS support (mounting remote/cloud as local storage), a great alternative to Veracrypt with syncing abilities over any network storage type.

goodburb··on How to Properly Disable IPv6 on Windows
Correct.
goodburb··on How to Properly Disable IPv6 on Windows
No, it seems like I have attracted the hive again ;).
goodburb··on How to Properly Disable IPv6 on Windows
That's not the point of the article, this is simply a barely documented equivalent to the Linux `sysctl` one liner for those testing or who need it and hence why I shared it, not sure where that all came from.

Edit: You seem to have edited your response.

goodburb··on Show HN: SDWM – Simple Dynamic Window Manager for Windows
Fractional scaling is also GPU accelerated (for battery life) on Windows compared to Wayland/Xorg in which only scaling in multiple is accelerated so far, there is some progress with Plasma (Neon Dev) for single monitor only.
goodburb··on Show HN: SDWM – Simple Dynamic Window Manager for Windows
Working scrolling speed adjustment, TouchPad calibration, scrolling and gesture options, random wake from sleep issues on certain hardware, Wayland external display issues, finicky video hardware acceleration with browsers, wine/proton crashes, Bluetooth AAC, power savings with the latest CPU/SoCs. Few issues with dependcies and versions necessates a Linux VM for development anyways.
goodburb··on Understanding modern Linux routing (and wg-quick)
Not a LB, look into Engarde.
goodburb··on Setting up a Pi Hole made my home network faster
Hardcoded devices/software is a very good point, not sure why the text is faded/downvoted.
goodburb··on Setting up a Pi Hole made my home network faster
You can get similar/higher speeds without ad-blocking by using DNSmasq's "all-server" with at least two upstream servers for forwarding.
goodburb··on Setting up a Pi Hole made my home network faster
For OpenWRT users, I managed to easily get it working with LXC. Sources are in "SmoothWAN" project at Github. OpenWRT natively supports LXC now. Shortcut: https://github.com/TalalMash/smoothwan-feeds/tree/main/pihol...
goodburb··on Ubond: Dynamic speed internet bonding based on MLVPN
From my testing, the auto weighing has memory, going from idle to saturation has no ramp up delay. Unlike MLVPN, reordering buffer is working correctly with up to 200ms difference between links. Its missing link quality monitoring, and/or FEC. It uses hardcoded values as of now like loss_tolerance, the value seems to be very tolerant unfortunately as it's linked with other logic. The lack of link monitoring causes issues like when one link latency is very high, it will slow down the entire tunnel instead of DC. There is no bufferbloat when using Ubond, even with just one link that exhibits bufferbloat directly. High bandwidth asymmetry between links doesn't weigh the slowest connection to 0 it will keep using it. I followed MLVPN documentation.
goodburb··on Ubond: Dynamic speed internet bonding based on MLVPN
Musl build: https://github.com/markfoodyburton/ubond/issues/7 It can be setup as a mesh without self-healing properties.
goodburb··on Ubond: Dynamic speed internet bonding based on MLVPN
Main additions:

-Dynamic Weighing

-Dynamic reordering buffer

-True seamless failover

-Flow-based prioritization for thin streams

goodburb··on PikaPods – Instant Open Source App Hosting
Any detailed privacy information? e.g storage encryption and access, system credentials etc. Why do some apps require billing information for trial?
goodburb··on Show HN: ProductDiv – A Website Editor for Developers
This is very useful for small projects with 'Github pages' project frontpage, thanks!
goodburb··on The smallest and worst HDMI display
This is pretty useful for NUCs, Qotoms, and x86 routers for showing stats.
goodburb··on Show HN: SmoothWAN a simple home internet bonding router using Speedify
I tested a BL20X, had to tweak the WAN connection buffer size every few days when the speeds change with cellular and landline, the latency would be very high, a constant ~500ms which may not be an issue when streaming video, no issues when using two cellular modems. I also had to set it at 2000 to get the upload speed of the faster WAN. (~2019)

Unfortunately the cheapest models are at least few hundreds $ and reliable dedicated servers aren't cheap.
