gnuplustoejam··on Qantas Airbus A380 engine failure in 2010 (2023)
Unbelievably comprehensive coverage from the Aviation Herald on this incident below, the owner of which was sued recently over a report to the point he sadly lost his home of over 40 years:

gnuplustoejam··on Paint.net 5.2 alpha now runs on Linux
Exile usually connotes being forced out from a place.

The distinction is important because no one asked them to leave.

gnuplustoejam··on Paint.net 5.2 alpha now runs on Linux
Using a domain that resembles a racial slur isn't a good look.

Bluesky is a biker bar with an askew "safe space" sign awkwardly taped to the door.
gnuplustoejam··on FBI Probes Service Selling 153M+ Drivers Licenses
We have plenty of naturalized immigrants with no traceable documentation of their birth because they grew up in the middle of nowhere.

Somehow this wasn't a problem for them, while whites-only water fountains still live rent-free in your mind.

Following your logic, no problem is solvable until you have eliminated all potential issues and outliers. No startups would ever get off the ground with that attitude.

gnuplustoejam··on FBI Probes Service Selling 153M+ Drivers Licenses
This exaggeration is why we can't have universal digital ID or resilient voter fraud protections — which is what the original question was by the way. Do you also believe voter fraud is unheard of and never happens?
gnuplustoejam··on Hang on to Your Firefox
If you hate on Firefox because they're on X for outreach and marketing — like every other browser — you are certifiable. Your opinion is extreme and summarily discarded as noise.
gnuplustoejam··on Thanks to Lake Ontario, MapQuest is popular all over again
The same people throwing a tantrum about the inconsequential naming of a lake are now throwing a shit-fit after they discovered their newly beloved MapQuest doesn't show their preferred borders for Palestine, so I'm quite enjoying this play out.
gnuplustoejam··on Thanks to Lake Ontario, MapQuest is popular all over again
It still says Ontario because there's no one left at MapQuest that knows how to change it.

gnuplustoejam··on ICE to use robot dogs from Boston Dynamics in deportation operations
> deploying something that injures innocent Americans

Except that's not what's happening here. In fact, quite the opposite, it's more like robotic PPE.

gnuplustoejam··on Google Maps Now Shows 'Lake America' in US, Not 'Lake Ontario'
More bad tidings: they're completing the ballroom too.

I hope his employees will get a paid day off to mourn and mentally recover.

gnuplustoejam··on ICE to use robot dogs from Boston Dynamics in deportation operations
Is it specifically the camera or the single robotic arm meant for manipulating hazardous objects — which resembles a grocery store claw game — that you likely believe is biting into illegal immigrants' legs like a robotic German shepherd?

You have not done the bare minimum of research before blasting out your hilariously melodramatic comment.

gnuplustoejam··on ICE to use robot dogs from Boston Dynamics in deportation operations
> will be used in operations deemed unsafe for human agents, like hazardous gas detection, search and rescue, as well as suspicious package investigations

Cyberpunk, albeit a nothing-burger.

These are not the metal-toothed cartoon dogs you so badly want them to be.

gnuplustoejam··on Dimethyl Mercury Exposure Incident at MIT
Mods censoring the post for being trolling "disrespectful to the community" is classic Reddit.

Some guy's in the hospital from handling droplets of instant liquid death and they're worried about feelings being hurt?

gnuplustoejam··on RavynOS: Pre-alpha open-source OS based on Darwin, FreeBSD, Apple open-source
What will you personally be contributing to the project to help move things along?

Besides accolades on HN of course.

I'm being real here and frankly blind, empty support of open-source projects does zero to support them.

gnuplustoejam··on ravynOS: Pre-alpha open-source OS based on Darwin, FreeBSD, Apple open-source
Didn't the Best Koreans rip off the Mac GUI in their home-grown spyware-laden Linux distro? Red Star Linux or whatever it's called.

I wonder if they have a GitHub...

gnuplustoejam··on ravynOS: Pre-alpha open-source OS based on Darwin, FreeBSD, Apple open-source
Four years and still pre-alpha. Stick a fork in it.

There's also PureDarwin (?) which had been around forever but last I recall the lone developer was seriously ill and the project was not receiving help. I don't see how this would be any different.

To everyone here cheering this on: when will you be contributing? Or are you just waiting to download it, run it once for the lulz, and drag it to the Trash?

gnuplustoejam··on FreeCORE TrueNAS Core – Continued
Doesn't this violate the whole spirit of the GPL? He's shocked that the usual suspects are ripping off GPL code. Tale as old as time.

It's like those SOHO router vendors that release incomprehensible tarballs of their GPL components; lotsa luck building it.

If I'm paying for closed-source ZFS, I'll go with the real thing and buy a Solaris license.

gnuplustoejam··on FreeCORE TrueNAS Core – Continued
Why does anyone bother with these ephemeral meme distros when you can accomplish the same with vanilla FreeBSD/Illumos/Linux using standard commands and documentation?

If you need your hand held to file share, that's why Windows Server still exists and is the gold standard for SMB.

gnuplustoejam··on 25,000 Lbs. Of Chicken Products Recalled in 5 States: USDA
Salmonella is destroyed by heat.

That's why you should thoroughly cook your food, especially if you have a weakened immune system.

Eggs get recalled for Salmonella because we like them sunny side-up.

Salmonella in ready-to-eat foods, introduced by cross-contamination, is a different story.

gnuplustoejam··on 25,000 Lbs. Of Chicken Products Recalled in 5 States: USDA
> Defunding the FDA and forcing out 4500 staff via DOGE cuts caused this.

This is great news because it means time travel is possible.

gnuplustoejam··on Chicken products recalled in five states due to “false marks of inspection”
McDonalds was October 2024 too.

Let's not let facts and real data get in the way though. Every post is being massively downvoted.

gnuplustoejam··on Chicken products recalled in five states due to “false marks of inspection”
Sounds to me like the USDA is working as intended: they caught a company doing shady stuff and forced a recall.

Are you really trying to spin your own narrative here, using cherry-picked data and your own link as "evidence"?

The Boar's Head *and* McDonalds outbreaks were in 2024 under the previous admin, way before DOGE, completely undermining this sneed.

gnuplustoejam··on An ongoing 3D-printer AGPL violation
The Chinese tech industry is built upon a foundation of GPL violations.

There is no way to stop it beyond getting CBP to block imports, which effectively amounts to shunning.

gnuplustoejam··on Tim Curry has died
> but maybe that's what he wanted to do

Even if he did... he was in bad shape and it must have been physically taxing.

The thought of him feeling obligated to be on stage in front of a room of wide-eyed adult children is particularly sad. This is more a commentary on his fans than Tim himself.

gnuplustoejam··on Tim Curry has died
I was horrified that after his stroke they kept rolling him out in a wheelchair to perform for fandom nerds.

Guy should have been allowed to live the rest of his life in dignity quietly, tending to his garden, not tap dancing for 40+ year old adults still obsessed with "The Time Warp".

gnuplustoejam··on Nitter and XCancel receive cease and desist notices
Nice to see everyone taking a break from their day jobs at Google of continually breaking yt-dlp so it's impossible to use, to comment how this is an injustice.

To the aggrieved I say: 403 Forbidden.

In their defense, you're not getting the full YouTube experience without ads of an AI doctor selling you suppositories.
