«Every line does only one thing» - that’s not related to real clean code. And there are bunch of languages that’s OK to have few things on the same line - perl, ruby, groovy, scala and even php.
"But the real problem is Kubernetes."
Yeah, that's true. Setting up full k8s with scaling, logging, prometheus, etc. for Wordpress(real example from Acorn) - that's definitely a sign you are doing it wrong. 90% of internet websites don't need k8s at all, docker compose covers all needs at very efficient manner.
> if he felt they were close to solving the problem anytime soon
He felt? It's evident enough, that approach they used doesn't allow them to prepare FSD for real life and real streets. I think he just understood, that approach to be changed/improved significantly to reach the goal.
I can understand developers and devops - overengineering allows them to play with technologies for company money. Tech managers should control level of overengineering, but in many cases they just miss..
> Kubernetes doesn't save work, it adds work.
It saves, but for certain heavy scenarios like High Availability, autoscaling etc.
I hope, one day we can see Kubernetes simplified, that will fit 95% of SOHO users.
Markets need to cool down sometimes to wipe out millions of ineffective businesses. Others will optimize their processes to cut off expenses. Real estate will be cheaper. These moments are positive.
