giveita··on Ants that seem to defy biology – They lay eggs that hatch into another species
What was this view exactly? They would have know their pets and farm animals reproduced sexually. I guess it isn't a leap to think all mammals? So what animals did they think did not?
giveita··on How to waste CPU like a Professional
Stop gatekeeping. With vibe coding anyone can waste GPU.

giveita··on Rails Needs New Governance
What does DHH political views have to do with Ruby or Rails?

Sure dont let one person dominate the discussion though, if indeed he is.

Also noticed some of the hyperlinks are not good summaries of the linked thing. That is all I can say as dont want to start tangent, see if you agree.

If you hire someone in say Australia you would be subject to its fair work act, and its courts. You'd need to sus out the tax situation too.

What if they are a contractor? Well usually the law treats these things like ducks and asks if they quack. If it quacks like employment it is subject to that law.

Trump's plan might help with my dream of being able to be paid well in tech without going to the US. This action is another reason to divest from the one tech hub to around temperature works.

Remote if you live outside US. You get a COL indexed salary.

Quite a think to crack. My company takes 2 months to decide on whether to hire the top 1% of a very specific profession.

They have already torn up the constitution, this would be small potatoes.
giveita··on Flipper Zero Geiger Counter
Did you just invent a taser :)
giveita··on Flipper Zero Geiger Counter
Why is the 1000v safe? My guess is energy released is small e.g. a small capacitor. Or internal resistance is high so it becomes much less when you touch it. Or you mean touch one end and it is DC.
giveita··on Help us raise $200k to free JavaScript from Oracle
Floss their teeth? Don't drink too much? Research before they vote?
giveita··on Help us raise $200k to free JavaScript from Oracle
JS is better and you can make it a recurisve backronym. JS stands for: JS Script.

Fast too. Do fast. It is so easy in 2025. You just dont do all the fancy shit and it'll be fast! Doesn't take genius like did 10 or 15 years ago.

giveita··on Atlassian acquires DX, a developer productivity platform for $1B
> he wanted to build something better that didn’t make developers feel like they were being surveilled.

This is important. However I think whether metrics feel like surveillance depends on company culture not the tool.

giveita··on Shipping 100 hardware units in under eight weeks
I agree. For safety mostly but even for "fuck cant we just drive somewhere and that be considered enough achievement, like it is 1989"
giveita··on Shipping 100 hardware units in under eight weeks
Was thinking the same thing. This is a risky ecosystem play where the owners of said ecosystem can (and are motivated to) make you irrelevant.

It eventually needs to do something the phone software cant do itself. For example more powerful AI chip than the phone has.

giveita··on Launch HN: Cactus (YC S25) – AI inference on smartphones
Tried the android app but model download froze. Are you using the same docker-style repositories as Ollama. Because they suck. If you do I suggest use your own s3 instead.
giveita··on Configuration files are user interfaces
So, opposite of python?
giveita··on Configuration files are user interfaces
I think it is telling no programming language has settled on YAML or JSON as a syntax. Because that would drive you nuts.

But we allow it for files that tend to make production changes usually without any unit tests!

I'd prefer something syntaxed like a programming language but without turing completeness.

giveita··on This map is not upside down
But what about the 10% who are bottomies
giveita··on This map is not upside down
Reminds me of guide books. They probably do it to fit the maximum useful map on the quarter page they have allocated for it.
giveita··on Nvidia buys $5B in Intel
Would be antitrust right?
giveita··on History of the Gem Desktop Environment
I used Gem on https://www.retromobe.com/2016/10/amstrad-pc1512-1986.html?m...

giveita··on Show HN: The text disappears when you screenshot it
Can't it be continuous random noise added at the top and then moved down each frame.

Roughly you create another full size rect. On each frame add a random pixel on row 1 and shift everything down.

Make that rest a layer below the top one which has Hello cut out as transparent.

In any single frame the result is random noise.
