giulio··on Free stuff makes us irrational
I was an early internet evangelist 30+ years ago but now I miss the old newspapers. If you have to PAY for what you read you are far more discriminating. Concerning “free” (there’s no such thing you know) services like gmail, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etc., I’m persuaded that a small reasonable fee would eliminate 99+ percent of spambots and trolls.
giulio··on Why do you waste so much time on the internet?
I don't. These days I try to be online only to do something specific: searching for specific, writing, email etc. I am online for 2/3 hours/day. I use Facebook Twitter etc. but not that much. Here's a trick: turn notifications off on all your devices and you'll be happier. The idea is to "consume" only the content you want and only at the time you want.
giulio··on The Extropian Roots of Bitcoin
re "Surely there's a current generation" - there are many current generations, with different flavors, distributed all over the political spectrum, ranging from militant atheism to new cosmic religions... the gravity center that holds this galaxy together is the idea that radically changing the human condition via advanced technology is both doable and good, other ideas can differ wildly among different groups.
giulio··on Wikileaks: Google makes DNS obsolete
It works! I get it as first Google result from Italy. http://213.251.145.96/mirrors.html has current mirrors.
