gitweb··on Running Docker on Apple Silicon M1 (Follow-Up)
Windows containers are Windows specific, and the base image is like 1+ GB. I think the best solution is run Linux cause that is what containers were created for and are the most performant on.
gitweb··on Iran’s Top Nuclear Scientist Killed in Attack
The US breaks its negotiated agreements, engages in hostile acts throughout the world, and interferes in elections in other countries. If we were to believe America is a peaceful country, then we'd have to say the same about Iran.
gitweb··on The CIA's Quest for Mind Control: Torture, LSD and a 'Poisoner in Chief'
So what is a new account? Let's say that they've posted hundreds of times, or the account is over 30 days or 90 days old? You're telling me you still don't shadowban if they go below a certain threshold and that you don't rate limit to maybe one or two responses in a 2 hour period. Also, how do you contact them specifically? What if someone has proof of not being contacted. Are you going to retract your statement?
gitweb··on The CIA's Quest for Mind Control: Torture, LSD and a 'Poisoner in Chief'
What you are trying to do here is justify the practice and misrepresent the truth about what is actually happening. How is what I said wrong and misleading? Most people aren't going to associate an email address with an account because like other users here we've seen the mods consistently biased in how they enforce their policies. Why not just notify them when they login, or disable the reply feature altogether instead of wasting their time thinking they are posting?

You also use the word troll but I've seen people get shadowbanned that weren't trolls, but people in the thread simply didn't like their comments because they were advocating for open source solutions or for sharing negative criticism about a company based on their real-life experiences.

I'm sure there are legitimate cases to ban users, but shadow-banning is just poor ethics. Just ban people if you don't want users that may go against the typical pro-corporate yes man type agenda rather than mislead and say that they are trolls, when apparently (based on my experience) your definition of troll is someone who doesn't go along with the topics general opinion even if they have legitimate reasons not to.

gitweb··on The CIA's Quest for Mind Control: Torture, LSD and a 'Poisoner in Chief'
Let's not forget about the good old shadow ban that HN uses when you get downvoted, even if you have a legitimate comment. You'd get shadow banned today for comments like the Earth is round if people don't agree with it or find it controversial to say it. Where they still let you comment, and make you think others can see it but if you sign out or view the discussion from a different IP your comments aren't even there.
gitweb··on Guidance to developers affected by effort to block less secure browsers, apps
This is regarding man-in-the-middle attacks. There is not attack on Lynx. Many sites do not functionin without JavaScript. Sad, but that's the way it is.
gitweb··on X11 Library Sees Lots of Fixes with LibX11 1.7 Release
I think this statement is exaggerated.
gitweb··on X11 Library Sees Lots of Fixes with LibX11 1.7 Release
This is merely for the library and not the same as the server implementation. Wayland and wlroots receive much more frequent updates.
gitweb··on Eight Years at Roblox
I'd love to see Roblox supported on Linux. I think it would help add developer interest and get some unique perspectives and talents.
gitweb··on Google plans to shut down Google Voice integration with classic Hangouts
As far as I'm aware the call feature in Voice also uses data.
gitweb··on Transitioning from Docker to Podman
My experience has consistently been the opposite.
gitweb··on Google plans to shut down Google Voice integration with classic Hangouts
And a pleasant one. Google Voice has actually been updated regularly and allows you to search your messages and delete individual messages. Neither of these were possible with Hangouts.
gitweb··on Google plans to shut down Google Voice integration with classic Hangouts
I use it as a daily driver and have no issues like you mention. Hangouts dialer on the other hand would frequently have call quality issues for me.
gitweb··on Google Publishes Latest Linux Patches So Only Trusted Tasks Share a Core
AMD EPYC enables this and Google has GA'd it, soon will also GA confidential GKE.

gitweb··on Trump says he fired top cybersecurity official Christopher Krebs
Guess the Republicans should have passed the election security bills that the Democrats requested, but they'd rather sow division and chaos after they already lost. What poor losers!
gitweb··on Reasons to prefer Linux over Windows (2014)
There is a current bug with Chromium that I'm aware of that causes issues if you have windows open on multiple desktops. Other than that I don't have these problems. May I suggest you check out the Arch Wiki for Sway and Wayland for suggestions for configuration.
gitweb··on Ok Google: please publish your DKIM secret keys
Yes, it is far-fetched given that the story doesn't add up. Also, cocaine isn't known to cause people to suddenly become poor thinkers. I've seen this narrative pushed multiple times that somehow him doing cocaine made him fly across country and drop off his laptop to a blind computer repair shop owner and leave it there with sensitive information on it which was verified by a blind man with his signature, which was then turned over to Rudy Gulliani because he was concerned about the material.
gitweb··on Reasons to prefer Linux over Windows (2014)
Sounds more like a mis-configuration on desktop environment specific, rather than a problem with Linux or Wayland. I'm using Sway with Wayland and don't experience any of the issues you mention. In fact, I find that it is easier to read than Windows and definitely a lot snappier.
gitweb··on Covid: Musk 'likely has moderate case,' can't attend today's SpaceX launch
First, Elon Musk has already been dismissive of COVID-19 safeguards and outright ignored previous shutdown orders calling them fascist and threatened to leave California because of them. He has frequently tweeted multiple debunked claims and theories.

He said in his latest tweet that something extremely bogus is going on with testing, but the FDA has already admitted to the challenges with the rapid antigen tests. Therefore nothing bogus was happening, just issues that were already publicly known, however Musk has made it clear that he is against precautions so it benefits him to spread confusion and doubts about the virus and testing because he doesn't want to lose any profits from the impact caused by shutdowns.

gitweb··on Covid: Musk 'likely has moderate case,' can't attend today's SpaceX launch
Likely has a moderate case, but post on Twitter like it is a hoax cause he doesn't understand how rapid tests work.
gitweb··on macOS unable to open any non-Apple application
They're probably already spending more.
gitweb··on macOS unable to open any non-Apple application
At that point might as well get rid of the Mac and switch to something else.
gitweb··on Guido van Rossum joins Microsoft
Microsoft should really improve their unattended process. This is where Linux really outshines Windows. I can configure a Linux installer with all my favorite software integrated, user accounts, configurations, etc—but with Windows I essentially have to install Windows, install my apps (leaving tons of randomly scattered files and registry entries all over the system), and then sysprep the WIM.

The unattended setup on Windows is very confusing, there are like 3 different ways and 6 steps to configure, and the tools are mostly designed with GUI in mind. Could you imagine being able to configure, install drivers and apps using a single YAML file for Windows?

gitweb··on RIP Google Music
Google Music wasn't that good honestly. The only feature that really separated it from others was letting you upload your music. They basically ceased development on it 2 years ago and stopped adding any new functionality.
gitweb··on Swiss report reveals new details on CIA spying operation
Dang, typical CIA though sell the company and not disclose that it was basically a shell company for shady operations where they happily charged countries lots of money and then bragged about it to essentially spy on them.

I feel really bad for whoever bought the company not knowing about its secrets this greatly devaluing the name and forever tarnishing the brand. There's got to be some type of repercussions and avenue for their deceit to the innocent people that ended up suffering here.

gitweb··on SpotifyKeyDumper – Dump song decryption keys from the Windows Spotify client
Big difference between paying for a song or album vs downloading unlimited DRM-free music for a small subscription fee.
gitweb··on U.S. Feds Seized Nearly $1B in Bitcoin from Wallet Linked to Silk Road
Barr gives them to Trump to help pay off some of his debts before he flees the country
gitweb··on Kim Dotcom can be extradited to US but can also appeal
Kim Dotcom also pushed the "Setch Rich" conspiracy without ever providing any proof:

https://www.theverge.com/2017/5/27/15697786/kim-dotcom-seth-...

gitweb··on Kim Dotcom can be extradited to US but can also appeal
Same Kim Dotcom that pushed the Setch Rich conspiracy and falsely claimed to have proof that he was the leaker to WikiLeaks. I have a feeling there is more happening behind the scenes than just copyright infringement.
