Yeah
ginko··on The Nintendo 64 Partner-N64 Development Kit
The article mentioned this needed a modified N64 to route the extra debug signals from the cartridge to the CPU. That got me wondering since afaik there are no unused cartridge pins on the N64.

Turns out it's actually a bit more complicated. The Partner-N64 uses some little-used analog input pins (LAUDIO, RAUDIO, VIDEO_SYNC) for this. The modification also requires cutting the lines to the system's DAC chip to work.

You'd think everyone working in tech would be aware that RSI was a widely used acronym already.
ginko··on The Murky History of Soviet-Born Tetris
The Game Boy version of Tetris was entirely made by Nintendo R&D1 in Kyoto. It only used the licensed concept.

I have yet to understand what the value proposition of an internet-connected refrigerator is.
ginko··on U.S. Small Biz Can't Ship to the EU Anymore
The PPWD is a terrible law and should have never been adopted in that form. FWIW the commission is rushing to fix it.[1] Their general guidance is also to ignore this for now but I can see small business being squeamish.

ginko··on The Millennium Problems for Biology
> Demonstrate the ability to cryopreserve and recover live wild-type mice with high viability.

I thought we already managed to successfully cryopreserve and recover small rodents like hamsters in the 50s.

Edit: See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryopreservation#History

ginko··on Waymo in Singapore
I have to admit I haven't taken a taxi in Tokyo but my impression was that it was a fairly high-end service akin to London black cabs and relatively pricey.

ginko··on EU Floats Canada Becoming the Bloc's First 'Associate Member'
The EU didn't participate in the Brexit campaign because that would have rightfully been seen as undue meddling in internal politics of the UK.

In any case I don't understand what you want us to do? Should the EU grovel before the UK and beg it to return? That won't happen. You guys voted to leave. You can come back if you want but don't expect any red carpets.

It's telling that ten years on it's mainly you Brits still kvetching about this.

ginko··on EU Floats Canada Becoming the Bloc's First 'Associate Member'
Being the EU's first associate member is by definition unique.

ginko··on LG TVs caught spying even when offline or on standby
Why do you defend LG?
ginko··on LG TVs caught spying even when offline or on standby
Sorry but it's up to the vendors to prove that abuse is technologically impossible (through open source software and cryptography). Closed source software should always be assumed to do the worst thing possible.
ginko··on Arm Mali G2-Ultra NX GPU: desktop-class mobile gameplay with AI-native graphics
>All the mainline kernel support is reverse-engineered. No help from Arm.

That's not true. Arm has been supporting the open source driver effort for the last couple years, but it's still behind the closed source one in terms of performance, features, and HW support.

ginko··on Samsung's Processing-in-Memory (PIM)
Feels like the most realistic/short-term way to make use of this would be to set up some barebones RTOS to run from CPU cache with the PIM memory being used for compute only and use the device as a network attached accelerator.
