gilgamesh3··on I was surprised by how simple an allocator is
Author of the post here. This talk was one of the talks I watched when learning about allocators. I thought about writing a part of the post about this talk but I didn't have much time.
gilgamesh3··on Lua for Elixir
Cool project, congrats.

I am trying to understand why would anyone prefer to use Lua to create script instead of Elixir, which supports running scripts. While Lua has lots of users the language just have too many wrong design choices. If I had the choice between Elixir and Lua for scripts I would use Elixir every time.

gilgamesh3··on A deep dive into Linux's new mseal syscall
>OpenBSD has had it since forever.

OpenBSD introduced mimmutable in OpenBSD 7.3, which was released 10/4/2023 (for US people, it would be 4/10/2023), so it isn't "forever".

Meanwhile Linux and FreeBSD has "memfd_create" forever while OpenBSD doesn't have anonymous files and relies on "shm_open".

gilgamesh3··on What We're Working on in Firefox
>Tab Grouping, Vertical Tabs, and our handy Sidebar will help you stay organized no matter how many tabs you have open — whether it’s 7 or 7,500.

Finally. Chrome has this feature for a while and it's really handy when working with lots of tabs, but I use Firefox on my main machine so I couldn't take advantage of this feature (and I don't like vertical tabs).

gilgamesh3··on Porn sites will be legally required to verify users' age using credit card
>Studies show that half of 11 to 13-year-olds have seen pornography at some point.

This is not porn site's fault, parents should be aware of what their children see online.

>Experts who work with children say it gives them unhealthy views of sex and consent, putting them at risk from predators and possibly stopping them reporting abuse.

LOL. Instead of educating children about sex and consent, they instead prefer to put the burden on the porn sites.

gilgamesh3··on Lawsuit aiming to break up Facebook group Meta can go ahead, US court rules
IMHO Visa and Mastercard duopoly are way more powerful than other companies like Facebook or Google. In the end, people still need to pay for services and they use credit cards to pay for it. If Mastercard or Visa don't want a service do exist, they can simply block it and then people won't be able to use the service. The recent OnlyFans and PornHub controversies prove my point. OnlyFans was in the verge of banning explicit porn in their plataform.

gilgamesh3··on Show HN: Team newsletter instead of sharing links on Slack
I couldn't find the option to delete my account, so, how can I delete my account?
gilgamesh3··on Sudo vulnerability
I've heard of doas sometimes and it's much simpler than sudo, but it's powerful. Doas has two non-official port for Linux[0][1], but it would be great if someone developed an official tool like doas for Linux.
