ghfhghg··on The Book of Shaders
Try looking up Ben Cloward on YouTube. He's quite concise and thorough.
ghfhghg··on YouTube's new anti-adblock measures
The "don't show this channel" feature also feels like there is some kind of expiry because I've blocked a few channels multiple times now via that method.

Totally a theory but sometimes YouTube has a button that says roughly "show me something new". I think that may be the source of those channels returning.

ghfhghg··on Odin: A programming language made for me
Not a game but the impressive VFX software embergen is written in Odin iirc.
ghfhghg··on OpenAI is building a social network?
That would be my God. In parts of the gaming industry working there can make you a pariah though. Not a huge portion but I've seen people get rejected based on working there and a couple other choice companies.
ghfhghg··on Emacs Lisp Elements
Thank you for sharing this. This is really interesting.
ghfhghg··on Shadertoys Ported to Rust GPU
Kind of and I've certainly used systems like that before but in practice it's not really a massive improvement. Sometimes it's even a tad annoying having another layer of indirection.
ghfhghg··on Gaming chat platform Discord in early talks with banks about public listing
Just an update. Discord now shows a modal dialog trying to get me to sign up for nitro about every other time I bring up the app.

I'm really going to have to start looking into self hosted alternatives soon

ghfhghg··on Meta is trying to stop a former employee from promoting her book about Facebook
Queued it at my local library and already there is a huge queue. Hopefully will be able to read it this year
ghfhghg··on Gaming chat platform Discord in early talks with banks about public listing
Years ago I didn't have to manually kill the app 2-3 times a day to get messages synced (frequently on Android, occasionally on Windows)
ghfhghg··on Gaming chat platform Discord in early talks with banks about public listing
It's been going that way for at least 2 years now. Maybe it will accelerate though.
ghfhghg··on Why Vermont farmers are using urine on their crops
I grew up being taught to urinate on our rhubarb patches.
ghfhghg··on API design note: Beware of adding an "Other" enum value
Oh I see. I did indeed misunderstand.

Thanks for taking the time to explain!

ghfhghg··on I struggled with Git, so I'm making a game to spare others the pain
Absolutely. Also graph and timeline view are invaluable for decades old projects when you are trying to find out when and why someone did some odd change.
ghfhghg··on I struggled with Git, so I'm making a game to spare others the pain
Honestly this is a big reason why perforce is still my favorite source control solution. Along with p4v
ghfhghg··on Solarpunk
My old boss keeps telling me to watch that. Thanks for the reminder!
ghfhghg··on API design note: Beware of adding an "Other" enum value
Languages like haxe simply won't compile if you don't cover every enum value in a switch case. Would that not be preferable? I quite like that feature.

F# I believe is similar wrt discriminated unions and pattern matching

ghfhghg··on Solarpunk
Yeah it's tough. Unfortunately game design is not my strongest attribute. Hopefully someone more creative than I can think of something though!
ghfhghg··on Solarpunk
Would love to see some media based off this concept. I'm so sick of cyberpunk.
ghfhghg··on Ask HN: What less-popular systems programming language are you using?
F# and Haxe. Love both of those languages
ghfhghg··on What do people see when they're tripping? Analyzing Erowid's trip reports
Did you make this same post before? I swear I've already read this a couple months ago.

Edit : putting this into Google does indeed show the same post from before this thread was created. Weird

ghfhghg··on Gene Hackman has died
I've done construction, masonry, retail sales, barista, deli, a line cook, aiding the mentally challenged and Software development. Id say all those jobs can be stressful.
ghfhghg··on Show HN: I got laid off from Meta and created a minor hit on Steam
Awesome! Especially as a pessimistic person being able to find that and break through.

Thanks for sharing!

ghfhghg··on Show HN: I got laid off from Meta and created a minor hit on Steam
Wow congratulations. The game presentation is awesome.

When working on this how long did it take before the game felt fun to you?

ghfhghg··on DeepSeek open source DeepEP – library for MoE training and Inference
Admittedly I'm a sideline observer but it feels like the first half of your scenario is already happening (sans the agi).
ghfhghg··on Canadian VPS Review
I switched to fullhost about 2 years and I have nothing but good things to say about them.

I was previously on site5 which got bought out. I wanted to use letsencrypt which they said they support but in practice do everything in their power to prevent you from doing so. The customer service essentially gaslight you and try to get you to pay 300$ a year on top of what I was already paying to use their provider.

I gave fullhost my credentials and they moved everything over including all my hacky one-off database deployments and projects.

Another time my email started getting rejected by Gmail for reasons of not having tkip and something else I forget the name of. From the time I filed a ticket to the time it was fixed was probably an hour.

Fullhost is also cheaper than site5.

ghfhghg··on Show HN: I scrape Steam data every month and it's yours to download for free
I guess the main differentiator over steamdb is getting the data in CSV?

Might be good to clarify in the FAQ because the people I know who would pay for this are not the most techy types.
