ghantila··on Ask HN: I love paying attention to detail. Is there a career for me?
Thanks a lot for taking time to write a valuable advice. I'd love to learn more from you and your experiences.

I've not yet decided what exactly I want to do but I love computers. I can spend hours and hours trying to do stuffs on it. I also love helping people. I'll tell you what I do mostly, whenever I have someone visit my home, I ask for their phone, connect to my W-Fi and update their apps from Play Store or App Store, enable/disable some settings for privacy.

I don't know but I love doing it. I'm thinking of starting a computer repair business and I'm damn sure I'll rock at it. But somewhere I'm lacking confidence.

I don't play video games but I spend a lot of time watching videos on YouTube, some educational and some just for fun.

In short, I'm just in this world. No idea what to do with my life. Please advice me more on this.

ghantila··on Skipping breakfast might help you lose weight
Instead of skipping the breakfast, try not to eat after sun-set. Trust me, you'll love the difference you'll see after a few months.

Disclaimer: I'm following this principle every single day from past 2 years.

ghantila··on The NoScript Misnomer
Someone is already doing that.

ghantila··on Nginx 1.8.0 stable has been released
Yeah! Exactly. 1.9.0 is set to release on April 28, 2015.
ghantila··on Nginx 1.8.0 stable has been released
See [1] and [2].

[1] explains which version should you use. (I probably go with mainline).

All the newest features are added to mainline releases. By the time most of the bugs are fixed, their version is renumbered and branch is forked to make a stable release.

[2] is where you see the information about upcoming nginx releases.

ghantila··on Ask HN: I have no goal and I don't know what to do next
I don't know about depressed mode but I don't feel like doing anything. I don't have a teacher. I learn things myself with the help of internet. But when someone asks me to make something for them, say a computer program or a script, I feel that I wouldn't be able to do it. I just don't feel confident about anything. My situation is similiar to this [1] and this [2].

I'll try listing all my intersets and locate the things that I can do days and nights without feeling bore.

And about the organizations in India, as far as I know, they're interested in producing "quantity" and not "quality". I just can't work for a company that doesn't give a shit to quality, no matter what the work is.

Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

ghantila··on Ask HN: I have no goal and I don't know what to do next
No, I'm not in US. I'm from India.
ghantila··on Newest version of uTorrent has Bitcoin mining offer during install
Did anyone notice? uTorrent main setup file is packed by UPX and is made unpack-able by UPX itself by modifying some bytes in the packed UPX. Why would a developer do that? Point.
ghantila··on Ask HN: Is there a site to find ppl to work on projects with based on speciality
I'm a front-end developer from India. Just tell me your email address.
ghantila··on Filezilla at SourceForge is malware
If you really need FileZilla, you can directly download the portable version with this workaround.

Visit http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/filezilla/FileZilla... to directly start downloading

Or, switch to someother FTP client.

ghantila··on The First Website Ever Made
Hey look, even then there was a <header> tag.
ghantila··on India Orders 32 Websites Blocked, Including GitHub, Archive.Org, Pastebin
I'm on Airtel Broadband, and all the 32 websites are working fine (atlease for now). May be because I'm using Google Public DNS.
ghantila··on Adblock Plus is probably the reason Firefox and Chrome are such memory hogs
I uninstalled right after hearing from Mozilla [1] about the effects of AdBlock Plus on Firefox. Since, then I'm blocking things manually.

First I was using this [2] hosts file by Dan Pallock. But now I've switched to this Neocities [3] hosted site. I don't know who manages this site, but the entries are uniquely sorted from various sources, which includes entries from Dan Pallock's hosts file.

Apart from this, I use Privacy Badger [4], Self-Destructing Cookies [5], HTTPS-Everywhere [6] and Disconnect [7].

ghantila··on Ask HN: How to refresh on modern features of C++?
cppreference.com is a good resource too. It's updated frequently.

ghantila··on Using Google’s prettify to add syntax highlighting to code snippets
Prism is a good light-weight alternative.

ghantila··on Ask HN: How can I remedy scatter brain and information overload?
I had the same problem. I solved it by trimming down to one thing and doing, learning and reading about only that one thing.

Remember: Jack of all trades is a master of none.

You want to do everything or do just one thing and be a master in it?

I'd say, try following Google's Philosophy #2 https://www.google.com/intl/en/about/company/philosophy/
