ggreenbe··on Shopify to lay off 10% of workers in broad shake-up
It's more than 50... I mean just look at the number of API endpoints across multiple APIs both internal and external. It's easily hundreds then add sys ops, dev ops, dev content writing (docs/guides), frontend, design, pm, support, etc.

I feel like most of you all are unaware of the complexity and scope of Shopify...

ggreenbe··on BigCommerce raises $64M to power e-commerce sites
Shopify plus allow you to adjust the checkout styling and template.
ggreenbe··on Ask HN: How do you manage your event tracking and analytics?
We use new relic to track backend stats in addition to frontend performance.

GA for frontend.

So you're like the Wordpress of icons.
ggreenbe··on Ask HN: What is your favorite YouTube channel for developers?
What if they provide the code samples for download?
ggreenbe··on OS X is now macOS and gets support for Siri, auto unlock
Right, but we are talking about a communication platform which inherently should be crossplatform
ggreenbe··on Suburban sprawl is stifling the US economy
Being a programmer in NYC, I love it and wouldn't trade living anywhere else at the moment. I guess to each their own.
ggreenbe··on Justin.tv ending archiving, deleting all archived videos after June 14
technically it's Twitch Interactive which kind of shows you the company's focus and growth.

I like the idea of something like 24hour retention. If you just missed a broadcast by say an hour or live in another timezone +12hours then maybe watching it later within the 24 hour grace period would be good.
ggreenbe··on Show HN: Endless Domains – Domain suggestion tool for new gTLDs
I guess it depends on the user. For me, the .gallery domain was incredible as my site, MinecraftGallery.com can now use Minecraft.Gallery
ggreenbe··on A startup postmortem with a happy ending
Not sure if this is a common occurrence but I've noticed that when I search for a common one-word app name, it's really hard to find. I searched for the app, "Champion" and had to follow their iTunes link in order to view the page.

Anyway, best of luck with the pivot and I'll probably check your app out in more detail during the World Cup.

ggreenbe··on The Free Marketing Gravy Train Is Over on Facebook
I thought that was partly how it works, similar to twitter ads. You bid on views/clicks.
ggreenbe··on Netflix Agrees to Pay Comcast to End Web Traffic Jam
Maybe I'm missing something but why would it be cheaper for Comcast to include TV?
ggreenbe··on Generation C
yea a bit strange:

"For example, CEFRIO, a public-private technology transfer group in Quebec, Canada, pegs Generation C as a group of individuals born between 1982 and 1996.

This would actually place Generation C within the Generation Y or Millennial category. "

Here is the breakdown according to Nielsen:

"- Greatest Generation (1901-1924)

- Silent Generation (1925-1945)

- Baby Boomers (1946-1964)

- Generation X (1965-1976)

- Millennials/Gen Y (1977-1995)

--Younger Millennials (18-27)

--Older Millennials (28-36)

Generation Z (1995-Present)"

ggreenbe··on Applications open for the summer 2014 YC batch
Just wondering, do they assign the time slot or do they let you choose?
ggreenbe··on Applications open for the summer 2014 YC batch
I would guess this batch (Summer 2014). They said next batch and it was announced prior to the opening of the summer batch.

"become president of Y Combinator starting next batch"

Nice! That reminds me of... "Tis a lesson you should heed, If at first you don't succeed, Try, try again;" - W. E. Hickson
ggreenbe··on America Online to Buy Internet Chat Service for $287 Million (1998)
I'm not sure that's a fair comparison to make. Most of their revenue comes after the first year. With the growth they had last year and current growth, their revenue should exponentially rise over 2014 and 2015.

Also, I wonder if being bought by facebook could help reduce hardware costs by utilizing facebook's infustracture

ggreenbe··on Facebook Buying WhatsApp for $16B in Cash and Stock Plus $3B in RSUs
To be honest, why not? I can see WhatsApp having more active users than Facebook in the future considering their current growth %.
ggreenbe··on Getting to No: The Key to Startup Selling
From my understanding... > Prospect - A potential customer. Someone who may be interested in your service. > Product - The service you are pitching to said prospect.

Pretty sure I understood what he is getting at but I'm not sure this advice will work or is recommended for all industries.
