gerash··on South Korea proposes talks to officially end war with North
What are you talking about? NK was bombed by the US in the past. Also did Syria also have oil?
gerash··on Why does the U.S. military seem stymied in the war with Iran?
Because the world is a more level playing field compared to a few decades ago. The US and the west don’t have the means or power to dictate terms all across the globe. They need to pick their battles wisely.
gerash··on The Iran War Is a Whole New Level of Quagmire for the US
Trump ran as an anti war, small budget candidate. His second term has been the most brazen scam.

US foreign policy is dictated by Israel at this point. You thought it was only the middle east part but US has been relocating all weapon systems from the allies all around the world only to protect Israel.

gerash··on The Iran War Is a Whole New Level of Quagmire for the US
Wait what? Ukraine hasn't had elections since 2019. Also do you genuinely believe that the power play in geopolitics is about "spreading democracy" ?
gerash··on Changes at Google DeepMind: Demis Hassabis from CEO to Chair, Jeff Dean departs
My read: managing bureaucracy is a boring job esp. if you’re financially in a good spot.

Some think Gemini is falling behind in benchmarks so there was a shakeup at the top. I don’t agree with it.

That said, winning this LLM race is difficult given the number of talented people working on it across the world.

gerash··on Why the US Navy won't blast the Iranians and 'open' Strait of Hormuz
Syria project was to topple a secular Iran allied government with any other alternative which ended up being ISIS because Israel wanted it and they control the government, mainstream media and have passed laws at state and federal levels so you can’t even criticize them
gerash··on Why the US Navy won't blast the Iranians and 'open' Strait of Hormuz
Doesn’t matter. Once bombs start hitting next to you, you rally around the flag
gerash··on Why the US Navy won't blast the Iranians and 'open' Strait of Hormuz
No, Iran started helping the US against Taliban only to be put on the axis of evil list by Bush. Signed a deal with the US only to be torn and Trump placed maximum pressure.

US foreign policy in the Middle East is run by Israel.

Iran is foolish to have not yet built their nuke.

gerash··on The US-Israeli strategy against Iran is working. Here is why
You somehow blame Iran for a war Israel started, twice. Do you even believe what you’re spreading?
gerash··on Iranians describe scenes of catastrophe after Tehran's oil depots bombed
40K death is fake news. Iran hitting their own school is fake news. Stop spreading lies. Can’t tell if it’s out of malice or ignorance though
gerash··on Iranians describe scenes of catastrophe after Tehran's oil depots bombed
That’s a manufactured made up number to down play the future civilian casualties from the war.
gerash··on Iranians describe scenes of catastrophe after Tehran's oil depots bombed
That’s a large portion of the western media across the gamut.

gerash··on Israel Strikes Oil Facilities in Iran
Planet labs has also been banned from publishing damages to US bases and Israel.

I suspect it all means it doesn’t look very good for the US

gerash··on What if the Hormuz closure will not be brief?
What are you talking about? US / Israel combined haven’t won this war yet. In fact, it’s not looking good for them.
gerash··on Statement from Dario Amodei on our discussions with the Department of War
I respect the Anthropic leadership for not being greedy like many others
gerash··on Iran students stage first large anti-government protests since deadly crackdown
Unrelated, I’m truly curious what process led to the entire western bloc being taken over by the Zio mafia? It’s quite remarkable.

There needs to be a postmortem for this.

gerash··on Iran students stage first large anti-government protests since deadly crackdown
Of course, Nancy Pelosi and Scott Bessent were bragging about it in Munich
gerash··on Israel used thermal and thermobaric weapons in Gaza?
Oh yes. No one buys the gaslighting attempts anymore
gerash··on US Military preparing for potentially weeks-long Iran operations
Meh, I don’t have the patience to educate you
gerash··on US Military preparing for potentially weeks-long Iran operations
In retrospect the lesson learned here is Iran should’ve built proper counterintelligence and built a few nukes a long time ago.

They are foolish for not having done so already

gerash··on The Israeli spyware firm that accidentally just exposed itself
I'm sorry this sounds like hyperbole to say the least.

idk about their accuracy but "error free"?

Also do you understand the amount of compute and network bandwidth necessary to index and track billions of people by processing exabytes of streaming footage constantly with heavy computer vision models. who's integrating all these different camera systems to start with?

These claims sound like they come from someone who hasn't done these things in real life.

Tangentially, it seems like Israel tech scene has so many players involved in spyware/malware and surveillance.

gerash··on Dutch government takes control of Chinese-owned chipmaker Nexperia
The argument I have heard about the US taking 20% stake in Intel is that when a company asks for federal money then it’s only fair if the federal government gets some equity in return.

You can’t socialize losses and privatize gains.

gerash··on Anti-*: The Things We Do but Not All the Way
This guy prefix stuff he has done partially with the term “anti”. It doesn’t make any sense.
gerash··on ABC yanks Jimmy Kimmel’s show ‘indefinitely’ after threat from FCC chair

gerash··on DeepMind and OpenAI win gold at ICPC
ICPC world finals questions are not easy. Idk what your talking about
gerash··on Ask HN: Is anyone else sick of AI splattered code
One downside IMHO is reimplementing the same building blocks rather than refactoring and reusing because it’s cheap to reimplement.
gerash··on Top UN legal investigators conclude Israel is guilty of genocide in Gaza
I believe it's the other way around: The western governments, media and legislative bodies are under Israeli control.

Have you seen how the US Congress, half of which boos the US presidents along party lines, suddenly all rise up and fall in line when Netanyahu visits the Congress?

https://idsb.tmgrup.com.tr/ly/uploads/images/2024/07/28/thum...

Have you see the strange photos of all US politicians with yamakas near this wall in Israel as if they're pledging allegiance to something?

It's humiliating

gerash··on Top UN legal investigators conclude Israel is guilty of genocide in Gaza
The mainstream media in the West is pro-Israel in a bizarre way. Social media however has not been captured but idk what's happening to TikTok now.
gerash··on Top UN legal investigators conclude Israel is guilty of genocide in Gaza
Are they?

Yossi Cohen the director at Mossad used the photo of the ICC judge’s husband to threaten her not to rule aginst Israel.

gerash··on Waymo has received our pilot permit allowing for commercial operations at SFO
They replace taxis and potentially postal and trucking applications in future.

It’s certainly not a replacement for mass transit. US is sparsely populated compared to Europe and mass transit don’t work as well in the suburbia. That said, I do see many transit oriented development in SF Bay Area where high density buildings are being built near transit stations.
