https://terminaltrove.com ?
geordee··on AI researchers 'embodied' an LLM into a robot, it channeled Robin Williams
Son of Andon!
geordee··on Dymaxion Car
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1yxFDvqALI
geordee··on GitHub Snakes SVG
You could rewind it too.
geordee··on Microsoft is bringing Python to Excel
I describe Excel as the browser for data apps. Now Python would be the scripting engine for Excel, the “data browser”.
geordee··on Goravel, Web framework inspired from Laravel in Golang
I would recommend to look at Iris-go
geordee··on This website lives inside a cookie in the browser
So the browser is serving the page to server?
geordee··on Ask HN: What's your favorite software-free keyboard and mouse?
Microsoft Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse.
geordee··on Postgres Indexing: When Does BRIN Win?
This is similar to Zone Maps in Netezza. https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/psfa/7.2.1?topic=statistics-zone...

Incidentally, Netezza was built on Postgres engine, years back.

geordee··on Show HN: Postgres Docker image with common extensions
So, PostgreSQL is the new Low-Code Platform!

I believe with PL/V8 we should be able to run/render JavaScript+Web applications (database)server-side!

geordee··on Sublime Text 4
Same here
geordee··on Crystal 1.0 – What to expect
Congratulations
geordee··on Git-Based Wiki
Azure DevOps Wiki is a Git repo at the heart of it. They have built an editor and rendering layer on top of a git repo of markdown documents and image assets.
geordee··on The Splitgraph Data Delivery Network – query over 40k public datasets
Right. As the name implies, for structured data. Another way of looking at is, that if we make efforts to structure the data, SQL is pretty good.

We should also consider the capabilities of PostgreSQL to query JSON documents.

geordee··on The Splitgraph Data Delivery Network – query over 40k public datasets
SQL is the API for data.
geordee··on Enable MTA-STS in 5 Minutes with Nginx
Learned something new. Dates/inputs for data with Poisson distribution.
geordee··on Leading with commas – ugly or efficient? An investigation over 320GB of SQL
I prefer leading with commas, and one column per line.
geordee··on LiteTree: SQLite with Branches
Interesting. The branches could solve the "date-effective" table designs. In the past I had used Git as a database to store multiple versions of a document efficiently.

Or this could be used as some elementary partitioning logic where each branch is effectively a partition.

geordee··on Ask HN: What is a good book on how to negotiate?
I like this book. https://www.amazon.com/Negotiating-Guide-Youll-Revised-Updat...

In fact, you can read a lot of articles in the author’s blog to decide whether to purchase or not.

geordee··on It's time to head back to RSS?
True. RSS gives control over what and how we consume information. The curated newsfeed is prone to gaming and misuse. In fact, we should be able to select feeds, curation engines and reader apps. This way it would be less of a "platform" and more of "www".
geordee··on Ask HN: Why does there seem to be a widespread disdain for Facebook among HN?
This is true in my case. I quit Facebook (and WhatsApp) and life became a bit better.
geordee··on The Puzzle of a Lifetime
Marketing or not, I got the game and played in one sitting. Initially I did not realize how it was getting solved. Soon the creator’s puzzle techniques started becoming evident (repetitive) and then it was enjoyable. Became easier though.
geordee··on wallpapers designed to hide the notch on the iPhone X
This was bound to happen. If I get an iPhone X, I'll use one of these wallpapers. I am waiting for iPhone XI, though.
geordee··on What If OpenDocument Used SQLite?
I find the idea awesome. Once the spec for such a document format is created, there would be a tool or two implementing it.
geordee··on It’s time to give Firefox another chance
Chrome user from the early days of Chrome. I tried switching to Firefox/Safari multiple times. It was Chrome Devtools which was holding me back in the end. Now I use Safari for most of the browsing. Getting started with Firefox for everything else. I miss the floating bookmarks in Chrome though.
geordee··on Please Make Google AMP Optional
I guess I'll try DuckDuckGo for a while (annoyed by AMP).
geordee··on Switching From React To Vue.js
I've always felt that React is a constantly churning ecosystem. The patterns keep changing too fast for me to settle down or catch up. That way Vue.js has done an amazing job. Sort of reminded me of Rails. Today I'm happy with Vue.js for my small to medium applications. Keeps things simple and beautiful.
geordee··on SQL style guide
Now we need a formatter/linter too
geordee··on I stopped contributing to stackoverflow, but it's not declining
I stopped getting answers in SO. These days I see that the answer could be there in SO, Github, Gists, blogs and Google is the first place I go to. A few years back, I could go to SO for practically anything to do with coding. And I was doing Ruby and Rails.
geordee··on I created a minimalist library to replace Redux
It is good thing to have options. Let the community decide the adoption.
