geonnave··on Ask HN: What interesting problems are you working on?
This is really interesting. Are you using concepts from self-sovereign identity¹²? Do you think there is a relevant intersection?

It seems the author identifies identity online as a major problem.

Interestingly, the last years have witnessed significant efforts towards a concept called "self-sovereign identity" [1, 2] that tries to solve exactly this. Emerging standards at the W3C [3, 4], open source software at the Hyperledger Foundation [5], and even non-profits [6] are working globally on the technology and governance of such a system.

Eventually, I think, self-sovereign identity will happen. I wonder what will be the impact on decentralized social networking.

geonnave··on Researchers find inverse correlation between advertising and life satisfaction
The ethical question gets to the point of it. IMHO, I think they should be able to choose either or not to "take the red pill".

Thinking about long term, the life of their children, perhaps their children's children, is likely to be significantly enhanced when things like access to healthcare and education become a possibility.

The only "explanation" is that this thing has been made to run on Mars. And still, didn't need to be so ugly, my eyes hurt.

It seems their two top priority areas that attend to a "huge, neglected, and solvable" filter are:

- Positively shaping the development of artificial intelligence

- Biorisk reduction

This reminds me of the book "The Power of Now", which try to combine teachings of many religions, and basically says that you gotta "feel your presence now, without thinking" to fully connect yourself with the world. The author even mentions Descartes' famous quote.

Nodebook¹ is the tool that I've been using for the last couple months. IMO, it beats Zotero and Evernote, or any other tool I've previously used.

geonnave··on Ask HN: What has been your most rewarding job or project and why?
I Co-created a free MOOC for teaching IoT to non-technical people¹.

It was a lot of work, specially trying to use an accessible language (our target audience was students from 10yo onwards, although most enrolled people were college students from non-STEM areas), but it absolutely paid off.

The most rewarding part was receiving the feedback from students after the course's ending. They said things like "I can't believe I'm understanding this", and "Weeks ago, I never imagined that such a thing [IoT] even existed, and now I understand how it works".

So, for me, education is one of the most rewarding experiences.

I've found the problem that made this happen and it is now corrected.
geonnave··on Primg – Generate prime numbers whose binary representation looks like any image
Yes it did, especially as a confirmation that such a thing could be done xD

So long and thanks for all the fish!

geonnave··on Primg – Generate prime numbers whose binary representation looks like any image
I assume the BigInteger library, which offers isPrime() and isProbablyPrime() functions, already does that kind of optimization.

Hi shabda. I've seen your version when I was searching if someone has done this before. And you are right, I did it in Javascript because I wanted to share it with the world more easily.

Haha! I may change that over the next weekend. Also, PRs are welcome :)

I used isProbablePrime() before, when I had a 50x50 canvas. But it was still really really really slow. After changing to a 32x32 canvas, the difference between isPrime() and isProbablePrime() seemed negligible.

So. In some cases, which I couldn't isolate, it finds the prime but won't stop the program. On average, it should only need from 400 to 600 iterations.
geonnave··on Primg – Generate prime numbers whose binary representation looks like any image
It is indeed! Haven't noticed the binary was wrong too.
geonnave··on Primg – Generate prime numbers whose binary representation looks like any image
That is very a good idea! For now it is stateless & frontend-only. But I was thinking on improving it, like a prettier UI and adding a "print" button, or maybe a "export to png". If I ever add a server side to it, it will feature a share & see option.

Afterthought: actually, I was thinking on using IPFS to store stuff, but I do not know if its model applies to this scenario. Feedback is appreciated.

Hmm, that screenshot is from first tests, it is clearly a bug -- but hopefully fixed now :)

Great tool. I used it to create a state machine diagram - one that I then included in the inline documentation of my Elixir code.
geonnave··on Yes, but what does your startup do?
Landing pages make this very same mistake all the time.

It is one of the biggest goals for such a page, to show the what & why of the product, and still too many people do it in a way that lets no clue about what the thing is about.

It is good to see other people noticing this and writing about it. Hopefully this will be included in good/bad practices lists in the future.
