geogra4··on Australia to introduce Google, Facebook legislation to parliament next week
Well tbf they didn't need Google back in the 70s to remove Whitlam
geogra4··on Australia to introduce Google, Facebook legislation to parliament next week
>they've successfully demonstrated that they both have too much power and don't give a shit about their end users.

This is the fundamental problem with Google, period.

geogra4··on Australia to introduce Google, Facebook legislation to parliament next week
On a slightly related note I really wish that Microsoft would have done with mobile what they did with edge. A Microsoft branded aosp with Microsoft services.
geogra4··on Australia to introduce Google, Facebook legislation to parliament next week
Interesting that Microsoft says they're ready to go to replace Google.
geogra4··on Microsoft Wallops Amazon in 2020 Cloud Revenue
How is Apples iwork doing these days?
geogra4··on Microsoft Wallops Amazon in 2020 Cloud Revenue
So when is Amazon going to create their own office suite?
geogra4··on How will 'chipageddon' affect you?
I just need a gt 1030 for an old pc and the prices just seem outrageous for such a low end card. It's more expensive now than it was at release almost 4 years ago!
geogra4··on Email from Jeff Bezos to employees
Honestly for little stuff like that I'd rather go straight to the source from aliexpress than bother with Amazon as the middleman
geogra4··on Cab Ride: Drive a train, forever, through a dreamlike land
Man I would love to get a physical pico 8
geogra4··on Ask HN: Remote workers in a non-tech city, what's your experience?
I mean, I don't think that Minneapolis, Detroit or Chicago are missing in basic quality of life facilities but enough people disagree to make them a lot less expensive than NYC or sf and, imo, that's their loss not mine
geogra4··on Ask HN: Remote workers in a non-tech city, what's your experience?
Yes. Here in the Midwest it's perfectly within reach of even a modest tech salary to own a home in a nice suburb. The coasts are just so detached from reality
geogra4··on Robinhood, Trading 212 and others go down amid AMC and GameStop stock frenzy
That's my sense too. There's gotta be some big muscle behind this.
geogra4··on The spat between Google and Australia, as reported on HN
Dare Australia actually ban Google? Does bing have any sort of agreement like they're seeking with google?
geogra4··on Linux Running on Apple M1
Their great contribution to the rpm world is yum
geogra4··on Intel Problems
I think there are serious concerns about Qualcomm's commitment to competitive performance instead of just being a patent troll. I think if AWS Graviton is followed by Microsoft[0] and Google[1] also having their own custom ARM chips it will force Qualcomm to either innovate or die. And will make the ARM landscape quite competitive. M1 has shown what's possible. MS and Google (and Amazon) certainly have the $$ to match what Apple is doing.

geogra4··on Intel CEO Bob Swan to step down, VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger to replace him
I'm sure amd could make a monster arm chip but without an oem who would put it in a laptop or desktop and without killer arm apps for windows whats the point?
geogra4··on Intel CEO Bob Swan to step down, VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger to replace him
Why would amd be screwed?
geogra4··on The 100 Year Computer
don't they still make Z80s? I doubt you could still get a 286 or 386 new though
geogra4··on Asahi Linux: Linux on Apple Silicon project
Does Apple still maintain open Darwin? Can you run it on an m1?
geogra4··on EU Signs €145B Declaration to Develop Next Gen Processors and 2nm Technology
Does that change with the China eu trade deal?
geogra4··on Flow Browser Preview on the Raspberry Pi 400
Microsoft, with the almost unlimited $$ they have, decided against their own browser engine. That made quite a statement.
geogra4··on Flow Browser Preview on the Raspberry Pi 400
Exciting to see another browser engine in the wild.
geogra4··on Firefox Was Always Enough
My understanding is that chromium is about as open source as Android is.
geogra4··on Firefox Was Always Enough
> I've seen saying for years that I think Firefox will eventually do the same, or suffer the same drift into irrelevancy that Microsoft had been experiencing for so long.

Man, that would be something? Firefox forking Chromium to replace gecko would be a very sad day for the internet, but as of now it does kind of seem inevitable.

geogra4··on A computer science study plan to become a software engineer
Netflix?
geogra4··on Firefox Was Always Enough
What's scary is that even Microsoft has essentially given up on an independent browser engine
geogra4··on AWS CloudShell
History doesn't repeat, but it certainly rhymes
geogra4··on Apple M1 vs. Ryzen 3900X vs. Intel I9 in Software Development
Would they really want to use Google's OS? I would expect a FireTop, right?
geogra4··on Apple M1 vs. Ryzen 3900X vs. Intel I9 in Software Development
They had a FirePhone but they seemed to not push it to hard and dropped it.
geogra4··on Apple M1 vs. Ryzen 3900X vs. Intel I9 in Software Development
Amazon already makes their own chips on the Graviton line. I wonder how long before you can get a graviton pc? maybe never?
