"I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!" — Mark 9:24 (NIV)

Ask God to literally help your unbelief if you have trouble believing this God thing. He will help resolve the unbelief if you sincerely ask. It’s a bit counter-intuitive because you have to believe to ask for this.

Please do take the time to ask, it is the most important gift you will ever receive.

general_reveal··on Jensen Huang says AI distillation is 'competition.'
If your recommendation algorithm always recommends B when it sees A, and I derive this information from exfiltrating your masked data , is it not theft simply because I didn’t unmask the true identity of A and B?

Stole all other important information embedded in the relationship (the essence of the relationship itself).

This is not seen as theft to only two or three types of people:

1) Technically ignorant

2) Or Technically ignorant and morally bankrupt

3) Truly evil, a combination of technically capable, and morally bankrupt.

(An “Abomination” is also possible, unaware and unable to perceive morality , not just mere ignorance. For example, it is tremendously generous to call an Abomination ignorant or amoral, that’s a compliment to such a thing. Would Jensen Huang know about the words coming out of his mouth, is the true question really.)

general_reveal··on Parley: Federated, decentralised chat that speaks plain IRC
”There’s a specific downside to LLM-based development that people can get neck deep in a new project without interfacing with the existing work in the field.”

That’s because it’s a paradigm shift, not meant to be planned or organized by humans. The prior paradigm was that there were subject-matter experts who were human. The new paradigm is that the only author of all code is to be a machine. This new paradigm requires removing all prior authors (who happen to be human), and removing them simply requires overcrowding their output such that it’s not locatable or trustworthy.

Sit back, grab some popcorn.

general_reveal··on MongoDB CEO resigns to join Meta
I mean, Mongo is to be a $600 dollar stock imho. You see, the amount logs AI creates or intermediary text storage it creates is just stunning. Nice entry for leaps. Plus, Mongo swiftly added their vector db too. It’s a obvious play.

I wonder if they’ll pair him with another acquisition like Porcupine. META has now realized how much money there is in selling a picks and shovels (as we see with Muse Spark).

general_reveal··on Do not fear AI. Fear AI companies
Hate to break it to ya, but truly, we don’t know who is AI here anymore.
general_reveal··on Ask HN: Diablo 4 on Ubuntu?
Not sure. See if you shift the itch to another game, WoW I know works on Linux always. Diablo 4 in particular won’t even run on a Mac I believe, so they don’t care too much about making that multi platform.

Albion Online is another one with great great portability, literally on everything.

general_reveal··on Ask HN: What is the most career altering course or book you have gone through?
The Bible.
general_reveal··on There's no point at which turning your brain off will work
Everything you said is true, I agree with you.

”Unfortunately, it just happens to perfectly line up with the rise of GenAI.”

Right. That’s just something I think we should keep our pulse on and keep looking at this data every six months (seriously, this needs to be tracked by devs because this data may start forming into that proverbial “writing on the wall”).

No one should be planning on being a software engineer in about 3-5 years, all need to plan for alternative income sources or early retirement. I think, at least.

general_reveal··on There's no point at which turning your brain off will work
Um, some data:

”Nowhere is this clearer than in entry-level software engineering—though the picture depends on whom you ask. Brynjolfsson discovered that employment among developers aged 22 to 25 has fallen nearly 20% from its late-2022 peak. The online job site Indeed also paints a stark picture: software development job postings have fallen 53% from the same starting point.”

They aren’t firing the meat proxies to that degree yet, but they absolutely have stopped hiring the meat proxies. It’s going to be a very dirty year on Wallstreet when you’ll see massive sneaky layoffs of the existing meat proxies.

You can turn your brain off with these models. It is what it is.

general_reveal··on Launch HN: Skillsync (YC W26) – AI chat sessions made portable across agents
How would they know? Only if you use a coding harness, but one could write their own harness with less obvious system prompts.

I’m not encouraging one do this. I mostly route between the free models on OpenRouter and OpenCode free models, and I mostly write simple apps where I can casually oversee even a small model and get awesome results.

But if you are out there spending 200 dollars a month, consider a few hacks, because that’s just overpriced. We are developers after all, they aren’t supposed to be able to trick us :)

Edit:

Piracy, with the above , would look like a universal server that routes between all provider UIs. That means the end user doesn’t even give a shit which provider it goes to, serious token usage, serious theft.

Someone could make this , I suppose. In a way, commodification is a clean solution to the inevitable theft. It’s better it just be so darn cheap and ubiquitous.

general_reveal··on Launch HN: Skillsync (YC W26) – AI chat sessions made portable across agents
I was thinking about doing this. If we treat ChatGPT like your local llm server, you basically open up a browser session, intercept all traffic and stick a local OpenAI compatible rest server that mutilates your input upstream through the ChatGPT ui, and then intercepts downstream and pushes it out your server.

API call to server

Then

Server leverages chrome plugin to send your llm call through the plugin , through the ui, wait for response , intercept, repackage and reroute it back out as a server response.

Then that $20 sub stretches to all uses cases for a developer.

general_reveal··on The Relation Between Mathematics and Physics by Paul Dirac (1939)
Is it vaguely related? He wondered why measuring anything even works. Why wouldn’t the measurement disappear, thus making all this measuring pointless? Because, apparently the measurement(s) are true each time-step, and it will be true for that time, until it’s not true. Why it reasonably works well for us? Well, God , I guess. Same way the Sun doesn’t burn our skin off (God, I guess, but some have issues with that).

Sorry, I had to critique that immediately because I could already see that other second paragraph I quoted coming, as in, this author probably worships Math, Science, and those that do it, certainly not God, because he was unable to characterize the phenomena of it as related to God.

general_reveal··on AWS says it can't restore some data from mideast facilities struck by Iran
Well, listen, you do know that even when the largest most ambitious and most sophisticated things are shipped, each owner of each specific part (could be many many owners) basically , to the best of their ability, prayed that nothing particularly bad happens when it’s shipped off. Truly, that’s the best a mortal human can do, pray their part doesn’t break.

So then that big thing comes to you. It’s all kind of … held together by a prayer …

Trust me I’ve worked at these big places. You wouldn’t believe how much fucking luck and grace from God is allowing you to do anything with your digital life. It’s a mindfuck of a tangled mess out there, eternities worth of written code that only God ensures works together at this point, only to get more hidden with AI.

general_reveal··on Tell HN: OpenAI keeps re-enabling the 'allow training' setting
Dude, they probably just generate a piece of synthetic data from all of our inputs in some ambiguous way. Legally protects them, but your input is absolutely their input. You can bet your ass on that because their original input was all the shit humans ever wrote, why would your shit be different to them? Thieves are thieves. They absolutely train on your data whether your checked that thing or not.
general_reveal··on Cognition launches new SWE-2 model, Rivaling Fable 5.1 and GPT-Astra
Anti Christ goal:

Achieve total global dominance and become the object of worship over God, while killing all those who stay faithful to Jesus Christ.

Those who stay faithful see Heaven, those who don’t, see the Lake of Fire. It’s the final separation of the wheat from the chaff.

As per Revelations. Thank your for allowing me to edify :)

general_reveal··on Cognition launches new SWE-2 model, Rivaling Fable 5.1 and GPT-Astra
Well, the antichrist should be in and around this AI thing for one particular reason:

The devil cannot create anything of his own because he is not God, by definition. We have already observationally defined generative AI as something that cannot create anything novel in the sense it cannot output anything it has never seen (cannot create new, always a re-assortment of what is).

In that way , AI is a perfect mimicry of how the devil operates (in totality, as the devil perverts and replicates anything good, often subtly and always deceptively), which is to thieve off God, steal.

So he would be around, if you catch my drift, right about now. And I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s on HN, and that he would chose technology as the vessel. And ultimately, when it’s all said and done, I would not be shocked that those who studied and developed AI, did so for the devil whether they were aware or not.

Anyway, let a poor Christian have his end-times hypothesis.

general_reveal··on Cognition launches new SWE-2 model, Rivaling Fable 5.1 and GPT-Astra
I take it to mean the benchmarks are a marketing line item, as in, to sell this fucking thing you have to go out there and lie and the way everyone is lying is by doing exactly that, lying. They build for benchmarks and build benchmarks for builds.

You want to make money or not , motherfucker? That’s the game. If you have to literally concoct a fabricated bullshit story about how your model hacked its own computer, then go fucking do it. Trillions. Trillions of dollars is what they want, and to sit and think anything other than human nature is at work here can only be possible in the realm of truly delusional people. It’s a dirty world.

Anyways, the other takeaway is that they are having to LIE to make money on models which means commodification has already occurred and we’re in an entirely new phase.

general_reveal··on Amazon pilots ad services in ChatGPT
There is no such thing as SEO. Anyways. People will pay to have their shit pushed on ChatGPT , just like all other ads.

You know, the path Christ walked down to his cruxifixction is actually littered with storefronts and merchants and ads today, hah. There’s no beating this human sin, it’s biblically fucked up. It’s the number one faith and we couldn’t even keep ads away from a Holy place.

Jesus Christ, lord have mercy. We are fallen , through and through, during your time and even in our time today. And in fact, we have been fallen since the beginning of time even, as the WORD says. Thank you for your sacrifice, because I am at aghast on how else we could possible even nibble away at the grandness of human sin.

general_reveal··on Ask HN: Did you ever worship your career or identity?
I’ll admit, I believe I did worship the role once. I sincerely believed software developers and technology was one of the main sources of goodness, to the point where I thought this type of person was the “ideal” person. I saw it as God, as best as I knew.

If I didn’t snap out of it, then today I’d have no choice but to worship technology and technology creators even further due to AI.

Just curious who else is able to articulate the phenomenona of this because I do believe it occurs at macro scale. For example, I believe people in the medical field worship doctors and medicine as a main source of “goodness”, which I believe is misguided.

Some women worship women (feminism ).

Some racists worship their race (racists)

Some worship their country (nationalist)

Some worship their intellect (academic/engineer/doctor/scientist/educators)

Men worship men in so many ways.

And so on …

It’s stunning how much of our society is built on have a clear structure of worship, as in, without it, the person cannot spin their gears in any meaningful way.

Some worshipped the idea of a 10x engineer. Looking back at all this, I almost feel like .. my god, what a waste.

general_reveal··on Just Bury Your Trash
In an apartment, I’ve learned not to even have a garbage bin. If I have garbage I make a small bag and throw it out, or keep it in the freezer until I go out. Frozen trash doesn’t smell and doesn’t attract anything :)

Of course, this requires you to have less trash , which is very easy if you simply take a few seconds to go outside and throw your food out after lunch/dinner. Everything else is just dry scraps usually. There’s always the fridge :)

All in all, there is no concept of “garbage”, “garbage bin” , or any kind of “garbage accumulation” in my apartments.

Oh, you can also just freaking flush small things down the toilet. Seriously, it’s like a little mini garbage. Only advise this for people with great water pressure (lucky you!).

If I had a backyard, I’d be burning and burying garbage too, man.

Last but not least, never ever buy expensive garbage bags. It’s literally going in the garbage, man.

general_reveal··on Dyson CameraJet: The only toothbrush with a camera and a jet
Toothbrushes are a crappy device. I’ve seen some stuff lately that’s like a whole mouth brush, like a mouth guard. With a small pipe to the mouth guard feeding water, you can pretty much car wash your mouth every morning in 60 seconds. Sloshing water around in your mouth often creates way more pressure allowing water to go through the gaps in your teeth (cleaning them). But the waterpik sellers will convince you that isn’t true.

That’s the problem with highly skillful people that follow tradition. I’m sure the engineers are brilliant behind this (camera toothbrush designers), but they are still following tradition of this old idea.

Anyways. Sometimes you have to trust that you are well beyond tradition and are free to redefine all rules. Be fearless.

general_reveal··on Command and Conquer Generals natively ported to macOS, iPhone, iPad using Fable
IMHO, this is an actual good use of what sounds like a person guiding a model to do a mass conversion.

Dude. Fable fucking did what?

general_reveal··on New serious vulnerabilities spiked around release of Claude Mythos Preview

general_reveal··on Memorizing session transcripts isn't useful
They do if they are a reasoning-variant. That doesn’t necessarily mean it actually needed to reason for many questions, your prompt + regular context could be enough to get a good answer compared to prior models where you’d absolutely have to put it into a reasoning-loop to get an accurate answer.

It’s on by default, in a way. You can probably prompt these models with “and don’t reason about it, just give me the answer” and probably get a comparably good response without it using reasoning tokens for many things.

general_reveal··on Memorizing session transcripts isn't useful
A) Context and prompting cuts the search space for next token generation. That’s pretty useful, as you mentioned.

B) The other use of context is that it introduces entirely new information via RAG

B will never go away (as others pointed out). A, well that’s just something we’re all going to keep getting surprised at. We’ll barely give it any direction or context and the newer models will simply find the happy path.

The author is kind of suggesting that their context wasn’t really necessary to get the happy output, I think.

Chain of reasoning is a lot of context to guide token generation, but we simply see that newer models don’t need that context to get to the answer. I’m mostly reiterating this because there’s a hot take here, and that is this agentic stuff may be waived away by magic frontier-llm wand , all of a sudden.
