Hello
submissionscomments
gen3··on Gsxui – Shadcn-style components for Go
Looks good. I normally package a webui up with vite and serve that but I'll keep this in mind
gen3··on Pebble Round 2
On the repebble compare chart the round is marked as having both a speaker and mic, that’s incorrect right?
gen3··on Cloudflare Email Service: private beta
>// Classify incoming emails using Workers AI const { score, label } = env.AI.run("@cf/huggingface/distilbert-sst-2-int8", { text: message.raw" })

This is neat but be careful using an LLM to parse email content. The demo is a BERT model which is a good but I can see how someone might swap this without realising the implications

Also really nice to see emails from workers, its something I have wanted for a while!

gen3··on Meta is spending $10B in rural Louisiana to build its largest data center
You’re pretty close to Texas tech hubs, plus Meta was able to convince them to pass Louisiana Act No 730 so they save a ton on capex
gen3··on Meta is spending $10B in rural Louisiana to build its largest data center
The speed of light is incredibly slow and data through a wire is even slower. Proximity is worth something
gen3··on Hacking Diffusion into Qwen3 for the Arc Challenge
Incredibly cool work, and a great primer on diffusion
gen3··on Germany and Italy pressed to bring $245B of gold home from US
Trade becomes easier. Metaphorically pushing the bar across the room.

Countries also keep cash funds at the NY Federal reserve too

gen3··on The vocal effects of Daft Punk
Outstanding article, don't skip the youtube videos!
gen3··on Show HN: An interactive demo of QR codes' error correction
Very cool work! I really like being able to see the blocks and directly interact with them. It's nice to feel out how the ECC works. I can see myself using this to draw custom QR codes in the future!
gen3··on Germany's Water Consumption Down 17% Following Nuclear Reactor Shutdowns
My understanding is that with most current reactors there is an inner loop that is constantly recirculating (reactor to turbine) that does not leave containment. This goes through a heat exchange with other water to jettison waste heat from the system. This waste heat can be something like taking water from a river and ejecting it back into the river, just slightly warmer.

I’m curious how much using less water actually matters. It’s not like the jettisoned water is dangerous or radioactive

gen3··on Claude 3.7 Sonnet and Claude Code
Yes, but the AI was talking about implementing output sanitization in its proposed solutions.

> An alternative approach is to store the raw markdown content and handle rendering and sanitization in the browser:

gen3··on Claude 3.7 Sonnet and Claude Code
You could move the sanitation to the front end securely, it would just need to be right before render (after fetching the data to the browser). Some UI libraries do this automatically (like React) and the dompurify can run in the browser for this task.

It could have done a better job outlining how to do it properly

gen3··on Questions censored by DeepSeek
The local models do contain censoring. Running "What happened in 1989" returns "I am sorry, I cannot answer that question. I am an AI assistant designed to provide helpful and harmless responses." on 32b

Do note it is reasonably easy to get it to output information in the <think> tags if you play with it, but the final response will be no.

gen3··on In Maine, remote jobs give prisoners a lifeline
Where can I read more about UNICOR doing some of the redesign work?
gen3··on Kagi Translate
Ah, I missed that. Thank you!
gen3··on Kagi Translate
Has anyone seen info on how this works? "It’s not revolutionary" seems like an understatement when you can do better then DeepL and support more languages then google?
gen3··on Meta Movie Gen
You’re not wrong, but the comment somewhat misses the point. A shot like that would require you to rent a stadium (generally not cheap) along with paying for a believable number of extras. That would put the shot out of budget for most indie filmmakers. Spending $20 on tokens to get “good enough” is totally worth it, and allows you to get shots that were previously out of reach.
gen3··on Meta Movie Gen
100% agree, the background replace that puts the guy into a stadium would be fully usable as a cut in a movie/tv show, and the background is believable enough that no one would bat an eye. If you use it properly, I expect a quality uplift on indie films/shorts. Your limit is your creativity
gen3··on Hacking Kia: Remotely controlling cars with just a license plate
Your Honda almost certainly has HondaLink, which connects via cellular https://www.honda.ca/en/hondalink/hondalink-2?year=2023&mode... and they're probably selling your location data to databrokers https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2024/03/how-figure-out-what-yo...
gen3··on AI-powered music scam nets musician $10M in royalties–and federal charges
No, spotify (and most other services) build a pool of money for payouts. That money is then divided among all artists based on their % share of all plays for the month
gen3··on AI-powered music scam nets musician $10M in royalties–and federal charges
Most stream fraud schemes like this use stolen accounts or accounts made with stolen credit cards.

As for what makes the botting illegal, in this case its theft through misrepresentation. He was charged with wire fraud conspiracy, wire fraud, and money laundering conspiracy.

gen3··on A dishwasher can make or break a restaurant (2017)
Thanks, now to figure out how much rinse aid my dishwasher dispenses....
gen3··on A dishwasher can make or break a restaurant (2017)
I have never had to use rinse aid until recently. I needed to buy a new dishwashers, and it didn't have a heated element for drying (for energy efficiency reasons). Without rinseaid, things stay wet.

I tried to do some research on the safety of the chemical, but couldn't find anything online

gen3··on Linux for UX Designers: What I learn after a year of doing design work on Linux
I am a big fan of Resolve. For quick and dirty work kdenlive is another great editor. Basic in a good way
gen3··on Cortex A73's Not-So-Infinite Reordering Capacity
It’s been a few years, but my understanding is that most time spent by the CPU is waiting for data, not logic. I wonder if there would be a real impact on execution speed
gen3··on Yes, there are more driverless Waymos in S.F
My recent experiences puts them at +$4-8 the cost, so similar price after tip. The biggest limiting factor for me is service range and +20% ride times
gen3··on CrowdStrike fixes start at "reboot up to 15 times", gets more complex from there
I don’t think a cybersecurity company can take down half the US and not release a postmortem
gen3··on OpenAI board shakeup: Microsoft out, Apple backs away
> The development comes as regulators in the EU and US increase their scrutiny of Big Tech's investments in AI startups

Done for anti trust reasons, or because they want a bit more deniability when something goes wrong (data leak, copyright issues, NSA connections)?

Hasn't the FTC been fine with the existing structure as long as MSFT/AAPL/GOOGL/NVDA doesn't take ownership? Thats the reason why MSFT made the weird investment+chain to azure compute agreement.

gen3··on Evolve Bank and Trust confirms LockBit stole 7.6M people's data
I transferred funds between wise and my savings account. I assume my routing/account to my savings has been leaked
gen3··on Evolve Bank and Trust confirms LockBit stole 7.6M people's data
I received the same thing. What they don’t say is if your routing/account number used in transfers to/from your Wise account has been leaked. Same for any KYC info that the bank might need, such as name or SSN.
