geekam··on Poll: How do you protect your privacy?
I use a VPN - https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/ and I have been meaning to ask folks here if they have experience with the VPN service or is there anyone better out there.

They claim that they do not log at all.

geekam··on Apparently standing desks can hurt too
I use a standing desk and I have never used a standing desk without proper sneakers that have nice soles. I also use the anti-fatigue mat. But above all, I have a high chair which I use to change my position and sit on if I am tired. Alternating between sitting and standing is the best thing.

What was the comment about the weight gain? Does the author mean that one gains weight by standing a lot?

This is also anecdotal too. The people you've met.

geekam··on Don’t buy an SLR if you’ll only use the kit lens
It depends on what you are doing with it, that is, the kind of photography is involved. For some, the "starter" period is longer than the others. For me, my Nikon 7000's kit lense 18-105 works great for what I do with it, usually.

Also, SLR also provides a wide range of features and plethora of settings that you can tweak and learn.

geekam··on Who Are the H-1Bs?
>>63.8% of world's engineering degrees are earned in China.

We have to accept that even though the quality may suffer, the idea of mass producing engineers at least affects the job market. I think that not every engineer from India or China is looking for 'quality work' and they can and many times do settle for jobs that are lesser appealing but still require engineering degrees.

* You can perhaps ask him what are his views about the current state of email (HTML).

* Does he think he has better ideas than current reigning email services?

* If given a chance, when will he improve in email services like Gmail. Or will he improve them at all?

* Where does he think email stands in the future of communication?

geekam··on The Chadwick Chair
I have tried exercise ball and still own one. The only problem is that it does not work with high table. I'd love to switch to the exercise ball when I have to sit.

I also like the Kneeling chair[1] which is a similar solution although works mostly on keeping your back straight where as, exercise ball helps your core as well.

geekam··on The Chadwick Chair
I agree with you but after a while it became a habit for me. Although I am not perfect yet but I can avoid sitting during "those" mornings to a great extent now.
geekam··on The Chadwick Chair
I have had a standing desk for almost 6 months now and I couldn't be happier. I have lower back herniated discs and sitting exerts way more pressure on my lower spine than standing. The added benefit is that I get to move and stretch more easily then I'd do sitting.

I do not stand the entire day though. I take short breaks by sitting on a high chair. I stand for about 2 hours and then sit for 15-30 minutes. This has worked way better than any ergonomic chair for me.

geekam··on Twilio Teams Up With Nonprofits To Help Fight Human Trafficking
I love this. Long time ago, I tried to see if I could do a similar project but never got far. It was not for Human trafficking victims but was for the entire female population of South East Asia counties, esp. India where assaults on women and rapes are really common. I think a similar texting service can be setup for women in countries like India to call for help if possible or at least report it (maybe anonymously?). In a country where Police is basically useless, this will at least come in handy if there is enough data pouring in and maybe citizens can help each other by watching out for a particular place that is unsafe.

I'd really like to work for such a project.

geekam··on The PyCon Incident
She turned around, smiled and took their photograph. She can do that and not confront them about the lewd remarks?

Though, I understand that it is tough for women to confront in a massively male-dominated arena. I think this fiasco is likely to at least have men straighten their ways that they cannot make sex jokes in a public place.

geekam··on The PyCon Incident
No. Instead of posting someone's photo (and other's along with that) on the web confront them. If they do not apologize or shut up in shame, move to authorities. Authorities at Pycon did help her, didn't they?
