96 is not reflecting my age, I'm in my early 30s

I'm an SWE primarily web side, though I do work in mobile too and I dabble in hardware on my spare time

Currently working in an innovation team as a hardware person but lately we've been developing agentic stuff

Holy f that's crazy. No I only get the Dell optiplex 9100 or whatever plus a cheap 1050ti GPU to play older games with
ge96··on Raspberry Pi 5 – 16GB RAM
That price I'd just buy an Optiplex or something

I have 4 RPi servers in my house on 24/7 but yeah

Funny different purpose but I bought a 2017 Pixelbook put Ubuntu on it, great machine it was $80

I remember trying to do photo stitching myself (panoramas) then I failed miserably but it's built into opencv ha. I've used quite a bit of OpenCV features eg. laplace variance for an automatic zoom/focusing mechanical lens camera system (steppers) and contour/blob finding for crude color segmentation.

Yeah it was kind of a bad venture because the people were trying to patent it like... you could easily reverse engineer the concept you know drag-drop render PDF on screen, sign it, websockets, webrtc video provider, etc...

Also their expenditure on money eg. a $30K wordpress site from some agency

ge96··on WWDC 2026: Apple is Folding
I was listening to this ep/podcast on Hackaday about a 12GB $50 Motorola phone

https://hackaday.com/2026/05/26/linux-on-android-provides-in...

But yeah they're usually carrier locked, I personally use Verizon prepaid and my 8GB Motorola phone is above $80 but not $600 either, it's $200

https://www.verizon.com/smartphones/motorola-moto-g-power-20...

Anyway it's certainly not the same phone as a flagship folding phone but for daily everyday needs more than adequate, I even was able to run multiple gig apps eg. DoorDash/Uber Eats on the 8GB model.

I will say what people consider "worth the money" varies since I bought a $1,000.00 radar detector and it's like who buys that...

Might be ram boost that's bumping from 8 to 12GB

Ahh the Librettos... I had a couple of 50s at one point, one of those looks cool unusable thing and the brittle plastic damn, I opened it and the hinge snapped lmao my heart my soul

Unusuable because of how small the keys are

CEO death is a thing, I mean from my experience of a startup that died with a dying CEO... nobody sold the product like he did and when he was gone, yeah. Crazy I still have videos of us debugging our software (zoom + docu sign type product for F&I auto).
ge96··on Porting the ThinkPad X61 to Coreboot
I have that problem too of buying many old laptops... I had an ASUS Eee PC phase and I bought 6 of them (3 different models and replacement parts).
ge96··on WWDC 2026: Apple is Folding
The triple folding phone is interesting to me but I still am not at the point where I feel comfortable having a $2K phone. Where you can get a Motorolla with 12GB of RAM for $80

I mention RAM as Android with 4GB of ram is almost unusable.

I still think it's crazy Mao with the 60M to 1 KD ratio celebrated
ge96··on GoPro warned it may not survive
Ha funny I see those on cars eg. Mustang GTs playing around in the streets

I think it's useful if you have that chase view where you pan around and show the other cars/motorcycles around you

ge96··on GoPro warned it may not survive
True, there are modding groups that take apart action cams to be able to attach a cool cine lens on it for example, now you don't have to mod.

I got a Insta 360 go 3S camera recently and damn the tech is amazing. What's sus is the mandatory phone activation/allowing permissions. Once I activated the camera I deleted the app.
ge96··on GoPro warned it may not survive
No it's Mission 1 Pro ILS it's like a DSLR/mirrorless (as in metal locking ring) pretty legit

I get that, Barry's videos with the Lotus Elise on the alps are like that, feels like he's going really fast but only like 60mph

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5vF7ApxbAg

For the Exige above just the racking and down shifting sound, blip the throttle damn love that, that's why I'd never get an electric sports car even if it is faster, though the C8 can do a sub 2 second 0-60.

ge96··on Freediving, Embodiment and Humanity
I used to watch some Japanese YouTube channels eg. Masaru where guys would freedive/spear fish. Was always cool seeing all the variety of life (fish) swimming around. If the water wasn't murky.
ge96··on YouTube to automatically label AI-generated videos
One field I was wondering about. There are a lot of channels/videos where they take movie summaries, feed it into an AI to generate TTS, graphics... I hate these videos but I'm also like damn good job trying to capitalize on that, why don't I do it kind of thing. I don't have that money making drive/hustle. I need to.

Some are funny some SORA, Neural Viz

ge96··on Show HN: I made an emergency page for my family
Yeah fear is funny, I'm/was(?) afraid to talk to women, but no problem with 160mph or whatever, I mean really it's the car if it's solid it rides smooth. But yeah at least I'm pursuing a new thrill now (women). Keep in mind though I'm in the midwest and this is on a big ass highway during the day.
