gcpwnd··on Things that I think will be important in the next decade
The AR section was the funniest. I think China is more likely to build powerful products here than anyone else, the question is whether they see a need or not. IMHO AR requires a revolution in lots of other areas to be useful for the wide masses.
gcpwnd··on Ask HN: A New Decade. Any Predictions?
This is about predictions not personal dreams.
gcpwnd··on Ask HN: A New Decade. Any Predictions?
1. ML/AI hype will go bust and the industry actually starts goes back to the whiteboards and starts to do useful stuff.

2. native apps will heavily decline and replaced by web apps. the whole ecosystem will remain wild.

3. the developer community will have a major change because the majority will be degraded from snowflakes to comodity. more developers will heavily specialize and move away from web and general purpose fields. severe shortage everywhere in the west.

4. china will show strong and visible presence in the world theatre

5. EU kills current adtech business, which will start to reinvent itself seriously by the end of the decade

6. mobile device business will encounter major shifts due to oversaturation, lack of innovation and eastern competition. touch screens will hit an dead end in usability leaving customers riddled.

gcpwnd··on Ask HN: A New Decade. Any Predictions? (2010)
He is quoting from 2010 and predicts the very opposite and I fully support the claim. Reasons:

  * industry has either no interest or capacity in quality
  * software flaws may cause severe harm but will play no role for the majority of the industry. it is a gamble just like vc business.
  * pace of change/inonnovation will actually add even more harm
  * excellence in the field will decrease because the baseline compexity is already too high, people will specialize probably in ML/AI/fin.
One chance I see is that the industry runs into a major HR crisis and some smart players understand that the complexity cannot be maintained by "developers" or "software engineers" anymore and come up with solutions other than opening up more positions.
gcpwnd··on Downsides to working at a tech giant
This is all very inconsistent. OP says in big corps you need politics to get (new) shit done. But building your people network is politics, regardless where you work. It is certainly easier if you are employee number five or ten, but it still distracts you from your actual work.

I can't say it another way but the very american person cult is worrying. Thiel any many other tech icons are just icons because they are billionaires and maybe populists. Having a network of those is surely a way to get funding. But that again beings politics on the table and more importantly implies that you can only be successful if you have connections to the billionaires club. It lacks a great deal of imagination that only startups can survive with the direct support of the big guys.

Now we just deny the prophecies of the upcoming singularity?
gcpwnd··on Learning at work is work, and we must make space for it
I've just quit my job after almost a decade. The fact that my employer did absolutely zero to improve my skills, aside from conferences once a year makes me really sad. The longer I think about it the more abusive it seems. In these times there is no excuse to leave your employees behind. But it should be well planned and not just jump every hypetrain.
gcpwnd··on React in concurrent mode: 2000 state-connected comps re-rendered at 60FPS
I am quite offended that this guy complains about people who claim that they have great benchmark scores and then he does the very same. Can't we make buzz about achievements without attacking others?
gcpwnd··on Micro Frontends
FYI Just noticed the block at the bottom of the article that this is just the first part of a series. Maybe a premature quality verdict, but that fact was poorly communicated.
gcpwnd··on Micro Frontends
There is no description on how micro frontends can be structured in practice. The run down in the marketing section is feels like a sales talk. No serious mentions of downside. Pretty blunt article hosted on martin fowlers domain.

What I would expect is an analysis of strategies to assemble micro fronteds.
