gchokov··on My bad habit of hoarding information
I resonate with the article as well. There seems to be too many interesting things for the curious minds. Perhaps, it has always been like this. Nothing bad with curiosity - I think it's quite the opposite, it's a great thing. I found that for me though, it needs to be balanced, and I learned to not feel bad if I can't check or read everything I want.
gchokov··on Ask HN: How much does it cost to run Hacker News?
That comment exactly.
gchokov··on AI chatbots are not a replacement for search engines
They may be not, but this is what I am using now for simple things. I have a shortcut on my desktop, on my iPad and on my terminal on Mac.
gchokov··on Maxi Jazz has died
I can’t stop listening to his music ever since I heard Insomnia for the first time.

Rest in peace. You made a difference and left a mark in millions.

When is Apple going to ban this app from the store?
gchokov··on Atari Hotels
I have no idea what this is...
gchokov··on Ask HN: Will AI put programmers our of work?
There’s no shortage of smart humans. Interesting how did you come up with this? Perhaps you are smarter than everyone else around you, and lack finding people on your level?
gchokov··on Ask HN: Will AI put programmers our of work?
I said, “If”. Please read carefully and don’t make things up. I am already writing code faster. And I am a business owner as well (90 people), so I know how team dynamics work.
gchokov··on Ask HN: Will AI put programmers our of work?
My take is that it will decrease the "value" of developers by reducing the demand for them. If a company can be 10x more productive it will probably need less developers. if you can do your job 10x faster it will mean your team would less team members.

There's no shortage that is not followed by a glut..

gchokov··on Apple confirms that it has stopped plans to roll out CSAM detection system
CSAM was a big issue when announced. Let's see if it's going to be a notable development when plans for it are stopped.
gchokov··on You don't need live chat on your website
What's going on recently with all the posts about "you don't need that" or "you don't want to be". Of course, I need a chat on my site - my whole business has been relying on this.
gchokov··on Ask HN: How to overcome stage fear / social anxiety
I've recently read "Rewire Your Anxious Brain: How to Use the Neuroscience of Fear to End Anxiety, Panic, and Worry" by Catherine M. Pittman, Elizabeth M. Karle https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20344354-rewire-your-anx...

It shows the processes of getting Anxious and the role of the cortex, and amygdala in the process. It also shows how you can really rewire the parts (mostly by associations) the parts of the brain trigger these panic and anxiety attacks. It's a great book, and there's also audio book. Very much worth the 6h of listening time. Knowing the mechanisms and biology behind those things helped me see the bigger picture and answer a lot of the "whys and hows".

Lastly, welcome to the club, you are not alone - fortunately this is a skill we can master.

gchokov··on Streetlights Are Turning Purple
Finally, Synthwave everywhere!
gchokov··on The Terminal for the 21st Century
Tried and uninstalled it immediately, I have no idea why a Terminal would want an account creation and Sign in. No thank you.
gchokov··on A simple, clean and cross-platform music player
I came here to comment that exactly. I am not installing anything Electron on any of my machines .. not anymore.
gchokov··on The coming long-run slowdown in corporate profit growth and stock returns
No idea why you get downvoted. I agree 100%, even the FED experts get it wrong more often than not.
gchokov··on My next Mac might be the last
Some of those apps are the worst for battery life, privacy and speed of work.
gchokov··on Apple iPhone 14 Pro Camera test

gchokov··on Google Maps launches Street View in India
Nothing about what Google launches does not excite me anymore..
gchokov··on Bluetooth remains an 'unusually painful' technology after two decades
I love bluetooth. My mouse, my keyboard, my airpods, my other NC headphones, carplay, TV remote, smart home devices - so many of them working 99% of time just totally fine. Small glitches from time to time are small price to pay for the convenience my everyday tools bring to my life.
gchokov··on What Happens When Twelve Thousand Game Developers Converge?
My guess is nothing…
gchokov··on Ask HN: Why does MacBook randomly shifts sound balance on connecting headphones?
It's mostly shifting right and it's an issue that existed forever. The reason for it is that the microphones were positioned on the left side, and OS X thinks it's smart enough to move the balance to the right, so that music/audio doesn't interfere with microphones (might be helpful during calls). Skype used to do the same.

I am using a small app called Balance Lock https://apps.apple.com/us/app/balance-lock/id1019371109?mt=1... to automatically restore the balance. No affiliate with the author of the app in any way.

gchokov··on Spotify was down
East Europe, no downtime, I was listing during the whole time. I often wonder, how can Spotify be so-fricking-fast and reliable.
gchokov··on Flies possess more sophisticated cognitive abilities than previously known

gchokov··on Facebook loses users for the first time
Brilliant and well put comment, thank you.
gchokov··on Facebook says Apple iOS privacy change will result in $10B revenue hit this year
Just an illustration at how much personal data is worth it - things that the normal user does not even think about. It's crazy.
gchokov··on A UX designer walks into a Tesla Bar
Despite living in Europe and having some great car brands - that we are somehow loyal to - I was considering buying a Model 3 to my father. The UI and the single control screen is a huge turn off - he can't operate it. it's really bad. So bad, that he is actually unwilling to learn it - it's more like a hassle than convenience. So.. Tesla 3 is a no-go.
