gameguy43··on How We Bootstrapped Our SaaS Startup to Ramen Profitability
Sales funnel feedback: I want to know what this will look like on my website to my users. That screenshot on the top isn't quite enough--I'm not sure which parts of that are my website and which are your widget. Is your widget always a big brick like that, or does it collapse into a little icon (like intercom + others)? Why not just put the actual widget on your homepage?

So I started the trial setup, but I bounced at step 1/3. Didn't want to write 5 feature ideas. And I still don't know what it'll look like on my site.

(Small side thing: I wanted to use the sample "board" name that you gave, but I couldn't just hit enter--I had to re-type it into the text field.)

Good luck! Looks interesting, from what I can understand so far.

gameguy43··on Critics say WeWork is an overvalued real-estate play
As someone who works in a WeWork, the "business services marketplace" aspect actually just feels like "oh also we bother you with advertisements all the time"
gameguy43··on The Intuitive Guide to Data Structures and Algorithms
It's on our list!

Out of curiosity: is Go actually your most comfortable language? Or are you just interested in using Interview Cake to get some more practice with it?

gameguy43··on The Intuitive Guide to Data Structures and Algorithms
Shoot me an email :)
gameguy43··on The Intuitive Guide to Data Structures and Algorithms
Not yet!

Edit: but it'd make a good one, right?

gameguy43··on The Intuitive Guide to Data Structures and Algorithms
Definitely the least rigorous part of the process :)

Some combination of:

- Did they catch stuff that the other reviewers didn't catch?

- Of the stuff they did catch, does it look to us like that's actually stuff that'll help make our code better, or is it just unhelpful pickiness?

gameguy43··on The Intuitive Guide to Data Structures and Algorithms
No specific plans yet. But notes like this are how we decide which languages to add next!

Curious: what language do you currently use on the site? And how painful is it for you to not have Go or Rust?

(Also, you're talking about having the /content/ in those languages, right? Or supporting those languages in our code editor?)

gameguy43··on The Intuitive Guide to Data Structures and Algorithms
We have a team of like a dozen and a half contractors from around the world who do the translations.

It was important to us to not just translate our Python into C++, but to have C++ that was actually good, C++-style C++. So we hired C++ experts to do all the C++ translations. And same for the other languages.

Now, none of us are C++ experts. So how did we know if the contractors we hired were any good? That's a whoooole blog post for another time.

In short: Noah (an engineer on the team) came up with this clever system where we hired a bunch of people to translate the same code sample (as a paid trial task), then we hired a bunch of people to rate those people's translations (again, as a paid trial task). Then we hired the translator who had the best ratings, and we also hired the /rater/ who was most /thorough/--they do code reviews of the translator's code.

gameguy43··on The Intuitive Guide to Data Structures and Algorithms
Yeah, agreed. I'm thirsty for that install rate but more importantly I want us to be a force for good.

Fixed in master. Not freaking pushing while we're sitting at #1 unless I have to tho :P

Edit: Thanks for the note!

gameguy43··on The Intuitive Guide to Data Structures and Algorithms
Awesome! Good luck with the onsites!

When you get stuck, don't get worried or frustrated. Get excited about getting to play around with a hard problem.

gameguy43··on The Intuitive Guide to Data Structures and Algorithms
Yep!
gameguy43··on The Intuitive Guide to Data Structures and Algorithms
:) New one is on the way! It's taken a while, but it's getting close.
gameguy43··on The Intuitive Guide to Data Structures and Algorithms
That is soooo great to hear because every time we "finish" writing a new piece we end up spending literal /months/ obsessively polishing it before taking it live.

I always worry that we're just spinning our wheels. But it's great to hear that the extra effort is showing through :)

gameguy43··on The Intuitive Guide to Data Structures and Algorithms
Oh iiinteresting I guess we are doing that! Probably not too hard to fix. Thanks for pointing that out!

They used to be just inline svgs (instead of img tags), but (at least a couple years ago) our research suggested using img tags was better for SEO and screen readers and even page load time.

edit: (Of course, when they were just inline svgs, they got the fonts for free from the surrounding webpage).

So far I'm thinking we'll just turn off the embedded fonts for images that don't have text. Definitely not expert on this stuff though--open to other advice!

Thanks for the post! Original author here. Happy to answer questions.
gameguy43··on Technical and non-technical tips for rocking your coding interview
Thanks! New IDE is coming! And test cases after that, hopefully.

Iiiiinteresting.

Definitely agree that the first half of the article isn't exactly data structures yet.

But I just struggle with calling something "An inroduction to X." Have you ever heard "an introduction" and thought "oh, that's what I need!" I picture a super-dry textbook. Or one of those YouTube videos that promises to teach you how to do a thing but starts off with the person saying, "Now, before we get started..." and talks about nothing for 5 minutes before actually teaching you the thing.

gameguy43··on Data Structures for Coding Interviews
BRB, gonna change it to drinking "Ensure" and listening to "Days of Our Lives" :P
gameguy43··on Data Structures for Coding Interviews
I'm thinking a lot about folks who come out of coding "boot camps." Those folks for the most part have /heard/ of "RAM" and "disc," but might not know why they both exist and what each one does.
gameguy43··on Data Structures for Coding Interviews
Eep. Second person to say that in this thread.

We had it in one of those gray boxes in an earlier draft (so you didn't have to click anything to see it). We'll probably move it back out.

gameguy43··on Data Structures for Coding Interviews
Author here :) Thanks for the note--this is interesting.

Target audience is folks who never learned this stuff, or learned it but forgot it. Interesting to hear you had a different assumption from the title.

CEO of Interview Cake here. We work really hard at trying to not do this.

Feedback on where folks get left behind is pure gold to us, because it lets us know what we need to smooth out next. We're not trying to be the /biggest/ resource out there--we're trying to be the /smoothest/.

For this article, do you remember where specifically you got left behind?

Eep! Did you notice that the first time we mention big O notation, you can click on it and an inline explanation slides down? Probably not, based on the question! We should make that part louder.
