gadflyinyoureye··on Why companies are lying about mass layoffs
That's where genz and millennials come in. We need to put aside our differences on a great many thing to organize around building a better future for the US.
gadflyinyoureye··on Why companies are lying about mass layoffs
US voters can demand policy change. We have to have a political movement to stem the corruption.
gadflyinyoureye··on Why companies are lying about mass layoffs
Video argues that AI is not at the root of the layoffs...well at least not what one normally means by AI.
gadflyinyoureye··on Video game union workers rally against $55B private acquisition of EA
Let's be a bit gracious. A big issue is how much value is destroyed forcing people who don't necessarily want to live in a big city to live in a big city. Take Dallas. If you condense it into a 10 mile super city, you lose the sprawl. You gain a short commute, maybe? But you now have people sitting on top of each other. Is this good? No more sprawl, sure. But good?
gadflyinyoureye··on We Found the Hidden Cost of Data Centers. It's in Your Electric Bill [video]
Go to Google's AI studio. Drop that link in it. Ask it for a transcript or summary. Wait a minute. Then read.
gadflyinyoureye··on Amazon has mostly sat out the AI talent war
But is there grounds to say that as a conglomerate they pose a large harm to market health to merit a breakup? For example, few regulators want to break up Mondragon.
gadflyinyoureye··on The share of Americans having regular sex keeps dropping
I haven't seen anyone talking about low T. My doctor has found that many millennials and z have T under 300. One of his patients was about to divorce because he didn't want sex. A San ball change in diet and exercise saved that marriage.

Now look at the world of singles. T increase risk taking. What if we have several generations of low T and therefore loss desire for risk. Let's exclude the modern reality of women posting men who approach them to social media as if they are creeps. No T means no risk taking.

gadflyinyoureye··on Go is still not good
And they will trip over the remains 20% percent for the rest of their days.
gadflyinyoureye··on Why does raising the retirement age hurt young people?
To be fair, the original SS age was at the high end of the actuary tables. As science extended life, society failed to move the line of retirement.
gadflyinyoureye··on EU Eyes Ditching Microsoft Azure for France's OVHcloud

gadflyinyoureye··on Peer Programming with LLMs, for Senior+ Engineers
It seems like we need to use forceful language with these things now. I've had copilot censor everything I asked it. Finally I had to to say, "listen you cracked up piece of shit, help me generate a uuid matcher. "
gadflyinyoureye··on InventWood is about to mass-produce wood that's stronger than steel
Wood used in framing has a small r value because of the air. The timber on the exterior prevents all the energy transfer.

The loss of r value can be off set with two 2x4 frames. As strong as a 2x6 wall and about the same price. Added benefit is air gaps.

gadflyinyoureye··on Harvard's response to federal government letter demanding changes
This is a logical fallacy of whataboutism. It is perfectly possible to say that the DOD gets too much money as does Harvard.
gadflyinyoureye··on CERN releases report on the feasibility of a possible Future Circular Collider
I look forward to it. I listened to her a lot recently because YouTube decided ever “next video” bump while I drove should be her.
gadflyinyoureye··on Trump's Trade War Escalates as China Retaliates with 34% Tariffs
It was both. Musk said there would be pain for the short term. Trump promised the long game.
gadflyinyoureye··on US Administration announces 34% tariffs on China, 20% on EU
Also you were outvoted because the Dems didn't have a reasonable alternative. Mrs Harris was incompetent. She was a poor public speaker, which further made her look incompetent given her previous role as a prosecutor. Further, the Dems didn't offer her as part of an open primary. They forced her on everyone.

The US presently suffers from future shock and stilted political process. We need more parties and better voting options both in the HR department and the mechanical process like ranked voting.

Since both parties benefit from the status quo, we shall see no change.

gadflyinyoureye··on Abundance isn't going to happen unless politicians are scared of the status quo
It’s harder to do in a Western world. For example say that it’s cheaper to live in Indiana. The cost of moving from Texas, if you do it yourself, is about $4k. For many people that is considered too expensive. As a result they stay in place, which causes them to mentally collapse into anxiety or depression.

Another issue is the trend of return to office. There were people who moved to less expensive locations. They are now being required to come into the office. One guy with whom I work is spending about $1k a month on gas to do this. So now he is effectively losing $12k per year to keep his job. If he moves, he loses his lifestyle and his 3% mortgage. This puts him in a tight spot.

gadflyinyoureye··on B-2 Spirit Stealth Bombers Begin Unannounced Deployment to Diego Garcia
Congress probably allowed the bombings in some overly large bill that gave expansive power to the administration to interpret threats to the US as it sees fit. The war equivalent of the Chevron ruling.
gadflyinyoureye··on Good-bye core types; Hello Go as we know and love it

gadflyinyoureye··on Canada considering charging for road access from USA to Alaska
Yes. That’s what he does.
gadflyinyoureye··on Canada considering charging for road access from USA to Alaska
That’s not how Trump will spin this. He’s going to pander to some idea of right to move between territorial holdings. He can whip his base up to request an invasion. There are few republicans that are willing to stand up to Trump. That’s why we have the idiocy of impeachment against judges.
gadflyinyoureye··on Canada considering charging for road access from USA to Alaska
Well if Trump is looking for a reason to invade, he’ll have one he can promote. I don’t agree with it it, but he can say, “they’re cutting us off from our people!” Then he’ll invade BC to form a contiguous border to all our territories.

Hell based on the representatives going to DC to discuss making Alberta a state, he’ll probably gin up even more support.

gadflyinyoureye··on DOGE's only public ledger is riddled with mistakes
No. Modern kids in the US were trained on short form articles. As a result they experience anxiety when as to read a single book per semester. They really hate being asked to read multiple books per semester for just one class.
gadflyinyoureye··on DOGE's only public ledger is riddled with mistakes
Is that because we’d bring standards back? Harvard is finding that students can’t read books. https://www.nationalreview.com/2024/10/why-elite-students-ca...
gadflyinyoureye··on DOGE has 'god mode' access to government data
Should the government get a blank check? If there is waste and removing it won’t reduce efficacy, it should be purged.
gadflyinyoureye··on Egg prices are soaring. Are backyard chickens the answer?
Yep. 5 eggs a day between my wife and I. Then there are uses for food prep.
gadflyinyoureye··on Dear Mr. Vice President, Please Take Off Your Apple Watch

gadflyinyoureye··on CDC data are disappearing
I like this idea, but doubt it works. People naturally coalesce around ideas. That cohesion is then call a political party. The only way to get rid of parties is to get rid of freedom of organization.
