gabrielhidasy··on Is the big tech era ending?
Wow, the word sounds bad on the OSX land.

I have a couple meetings/day on Meet, some small, some 20+, usually with screensharing by others, with a laptop with two webcams, 3 mics (internal, external webcam and dedicated mic) and 4 audio outputs (internal, each of two monitors (but only one has speakers connected) and Bluetooth headphones). The settings seem to always pick the right choices of inputs and outputs by default but change is easy.

The only thing that sometimes gives me trouble is the Bluetooth headphones connecting to my phone instead, but that's once in a blue moon.

The thing that is somewhat broken is sharing my screen, but sharing an application works so not a big deal.

Not sure about Zoom land though, only watched a couple classes over it.

gabrielhidasy··on How to make a CPU – a simple picture-based explanation
Helps a lot though, it's much easier to be a consumer of a commodity (the FPGA) than to make the supply chain produce your bespoke product.
gabrielhidasy··on Kerla: Monolithic kernel in Rust, aiming for Linux ABI compatibility
I'm ok with things rewritten in Rust, really looks awesome as a language. And the fact every rust project advertises rust front and center compounds that image.
gabrielhidasy··on Kerla: Monolithic kernel in Rust, aiming for Linux ABI compatibility
Not lamenting in this case, the project is awesome and rust is made for this. I just find amusing that almost all popular rust projects I see have "in Rust" front and center

Must be an awesome language to work on.

For each piece of software, there just be a version in Rust, and that version must advertise it's rustiness
gabrielhidasy··on Ask HN: What music streaming platform do you use?
YouTube Music, mostly because it comes with YouTube premium and that's a small price to pay for reliable no ads on all devices.
gabrielhidasy··on Pandora Papers: is the world’s biggest leak the world’s biggest cover-up?
Really depends, I can see a lot of quality of life on leaving family set for the next few centuries. And a lot of headache on managing the next personal island.
gabrielhidasy··on Making bracket pair colorization faster
The average electron program has very little data to work with and not a lot of hard algorithms to run, yet still feels sluggish, that's the main complaint here
gabrielhidasy··on Watch Windows 95 crash live as it exceeds 49.7 days uptime [video]
To be fair, not crashing under poorly written programs is a fundamental part of OS stability. Windows at the time had no resiliency against a CS101 student messing up on an assignment, it was unstable.
gabrielhidasy··on Electric shocks to the tongue can quiet chronic ringing ears
I don't know what is happening, but you could try a few experiments: - Use them with NC on, but no meetings/music. That would show if your problem is not the 'normal' volume. - Use them with NC off. No ringing would point directly to the NC. - Use them full off. Maybe somehow its the pressure on your head.
