g0atbutt··on Ask HN: Review my startup - Jaxified
Looks like a really useful service. I run The Startup Foundry and would love to chat with you. Fill out this info and we will be in touch http://thestartupfoundry.com/tip-us/. Keep up the great work, I think it has real potential.
g0atbutt··on If iPads are “post-pc devices” why must I sync with iTunes before I can use one?
I don't make either assumption. I've staked quite a bit of my lively hood on building apps for Apple products. I wouldn't do this if I thought they were stupid or blind. I just don't buy the "Post-PC" device story they are telling with the iPad quite yet.
g0atbutt··on If iPads are “post-pc devices” why must I sync with iTunes before I can use one?
This is true, but I think a "post-pc" device should be able to stand on it's own two legs.

Thanks for pointing this out, I meant to include it in my article.

g0atbutt··on Show HN: FaceMash for Dribbble Shots (my first Sinatra app)
This app is fantastic! Can you share some of the backstory with us?
g0atbutt··on One Day One Job – How a pissed off CEO became a startups biggest revenue stream
You have a really great scrappy startup story. Keep up the good work.
g0atbutt··on ShoeFitr: The company Amazon must buy immediately
That's a bummer (and not true). These guys deserve a ton of attention. It was presented at Launch and SuperConf so maybe they're getting some false positive from people that were there?
g0atbutt··on ShoeFitr: The company Amazon must buy immediately
I'm not sure. Perhaps an HN admin thinks it's spam?
g0atbutt··on ShoeFitr: The company Amazon must buy immediately
And they are actually making money on a scalable business.
g0atbutt··on ShoeFitr: The company Amazon must buy immediately
They have a fantastic product. I was extremely impressed with how well it worked. To top it off, Matt seemed like a really great guy when I interviewed him.

g0atbutt··on Viinyl is About.me for music
Armine Saidi did an awesome job presenting this at Superconf. There was a live feed, but I'm not sure if they will repost the event. If they do check it out. He was the first presenter.
g0atbutt··on Michael Arrington’s Dreams of a Blog for True Startups
Paul Hontz here (aka g0atbutt), founder of the startup foundry. The short answer is I don't know...yet. I believe TSF will turn into a profitable business (and based on the investment offers I've received, other people do to). I want TSF to ooze value from every article, video, and pic. After that's taken care of, I believe the perfect revenue model will present itself. Until then we will keep pushing forward.
g0atbutt··on TechCrunch Not Attending Launch Conference
No dice on the first one, so I tried your second method and had success. Thanks for the tip!
g0atbutt··on TechCrunch Not Attending Launch Conference
Does anyone have contact information for Jason? I'd love to get a hold of him.
g0atbutt··on Andrew Warner’s 3 tips to giving interviews for founders and entrepreneurs
Really great tips from Andrew. Andrew’s three key points in giving an interview: 1. Practice – The old adage “Practice makes perfect” is true. Especially on film. 2. Shut up – Don’t trust a producer or editor to cut something stupid that you said. 3. Tell a Story – People remember stories.
g0atbutt··on Get Clicky with it – Real Time Analytics for your Startup
We're in process of pushing it live on TSF now. It has been great to work with in the past.

I think Robbie does a great job acknowledging that you can make it in other cities, while pointing out that there is something special about the valley.

Actually this post was written by Robbie Abed, one of our new writers.
g0atbutt··on Facebook pages are worthless for your startup. Go where the early adopters are.
Absolutely. Twitter helps to cultivate relationships, but meeting people in real life is where it's at. Twitter is a great tool to make that happen.
g0atbutt··on The Forrst Story: Raising money, goals, and monetization
The biggest strength of Forrst is their community. I was really impressed with the skill of the members as well as constructive criticism they shared. They certainly embody the "Iron sharpens iron" mentality.
g0atbutt··on We’re creating a “Startup toolbox”. What apps should go in it?
That's an interesting app. I've heard good things about it but I've never used it myself. How often do you use it?
g0atbutt··on Visual Website Optimizer: Bootstrapped, Profitable, and over 4,000 users
Hi retube,

I tried to just present the facts in my article, and then give my take in the closing paragraph. I truly believe it's a great tool so perhaps that's what you're picking up. If you have any suggestions to improve my writing style I would be happy for you to share your thoughts with me.

All the best, Paul
