A lot of the negative feedback comes from the fact that the company needed to have high community backslashes or potential for legal issues before they would act. They also did false advertisement.
I personally opt out if something appears sketchy. I still question the privacy or user focus and so should everyone with software that claims privacy first.
I thought the article had the aim to showcase solvable issues.
Yet it seems to more often just point out the same issue (e.g. privacy),
minor issues(inconsistency in legacy apps)
and even suggest harmful practices (disable security software, never upgrade...).
So it highly depends on your Audience. If you are a variety streamer, your audience is used to the changing environment. However this does not apply to the vast majority. If changes in audience(game) can cause up to 90+% difference its hard to quantify it as negligible factor.
This does not make your statement wrong, but there are several other dependencies that do not allow this to be generalized.
Here is an article about it: https://www.investopedia.com/tech/how-much-does-it-cost-buy-...
#1 Money was re-distributed if donated and not claimed -> its not frozen infinite.
#2 There was no way to opt out -> its now opt in iirc
Besides that there are other critique points.
#1 Brave is controlling the add economy. They do this by blocking adds and offering their opt in add service(and gain 30% of the add revenue)
#2 Brave is using its own crypto currency to have full control over the money flow.
What additionally lowers their credibility is that they put false advertisement on their website.
This makes me wounder whats the incent to use brave.
The entire service is opt in making it also not guaranteed for the content creator to receive the reward.
This should lead even in the best case to a notably worse outcome.

This was partly an big issues as even tech savvy streamers on YouTube had issues getting the currency. This makes the end user less likely to use this feature at all.
#1 Brave advertise with privacy and speed while all they do is adding adblock.
#2 Brave replaces adds with their own adds. This basically means you get the same experience but cut off the income of the content creator entirely.
#3 Brave allows you to reward 3rd party sites. This system is so nice they even got legal issues as it was assumed as fraud.
#4 BAT. Brave advertise with consumer first. The best choice for the consumer would be Paypal. If there is an incent to stay with crypto currency Bitcoin or Ethereum.
Given Brave created their own crypto currency and base every model around that they can profit from Transactions/services with the currency too on top of the share they take when you use their add platform/feature.
Given the criticism its very hard for me to understand users sympathizing with the browser.
The reality is that there are not a lot of ppl with knowlage of the kernel and linux enthusiasts often tends to have a very baised opinion towards windows.
