futurist··on Fear of Rejection when Applying to Y Combinator
The way you mentally frame rejection is important. I found Rejection Therapy [1] to be effective at rewiring the brain's perception of rejection and not be attached to the outcome.

futurist··on Gay Developers Boycott As Mozilla Appoints Allegedly Anti-Gay CEO
According to these folks, it's okay to have your own views and morals. That is, as long as it is politically correct.
futurist··on Goodbye, Firefox Marketplace
A way out... For what? Standing up for his moral convictions?
futurist··on Basecamp was under network attack
Yes, "criminals" is much too harsh. Let's replace it with "unfortunately misguided souls xoxo".
futurist··on [dead]
I've largely moved on from HN anyway, and I've been way more productive. This should only help.

Who is the heir apparent for HN? Lobste.rs? Back to Slashdot?

futurist··on Coming Soon to Hacker News: Pending Comments
It should be possible to endorse something without agreeing with it.

You honestly think that's going to happen? Thanks for the chuckle Paul.

futurist··on Coming Soon to Hacker News: Pending Comments
Can you say groupthink? What a terrible idea. HN is going to suck even more now.

The best way to protest this idea is to ignore the site. Just ignore it and get some work done for a change.

futurist··on [dead]
Should be a law against crybabies like you? Yes!
futurist··on Researchers Show How Lost Sleep Leads to Lost Neurons in Mice
This treatment of mice or any sentient being is cruel and inhumane. It should be criminal to conduct such experiments. I hope one day it is.
futurist··on Virgin Atlantic Pilot (ex-Gulf War): Could MH370 have been ‘swapped’ mid-air?
It's Yahoo news, what do you expect?
futurist··on Why We Cancelled Our Kickstarter And Funded It Ourselves
Very eager to get one. When are you opening up orders to Canada?
futurist··on Bill Gates Says Snowden is No Hero
Bill Gates is an old fuddyduddy with too many friends in high places to ever side with Snowden. His answer isn't the least surprising.
futurist··on Show HN: An app to tweet text as an image
Clever name, but are these images guaranteed to be SFW?
futurist··on Rules for Learning Foreign Languages in Record Time
Gift of tongues. 1 Cor 14:1-40 KJV
futurist··on What Dreams May Come
I did. How about you do the same?
futurist··on What Dreams May Come
Right. I think this is what bothers me about this list. It's material driven. There's a saying that goes (paraphrasing) "don't wish for better circumstances, wish to be a better person."

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Mark 8:36 KJV.

Jonathan, you and your family must look to the Lord Jesus Christ. He is your judge. Through Him all things are possible.

futurist··on Stick bomb
How do you set a stick bomb off? Is there a particular way?
futurist··on How to meditate
There's also vow of now, the 30 Day meditation challenge: http://vowofnow.com
futurist··on Show HN: PitchIt - Present slides to anyone from any device
I hate trying to locate a slide projector and fumbling for the controller. It looks like PitchIt solves the problem with a more impromptu style presentation. I like it!
futurist··on Obama's Trauma Team: Inside the Nightmare Launch of HealthCare.Gov
Correlation, causation, blah blah blah. There are people who pocketed a lot of taxpayer money creating the healthcare.gov failboat, and no one is being held accountable. That's my takeaway from the article.
futurist··on Is there a God?
If each point could be refuted, and an alternative explanation provided, would the OP listen anyway?
futurist··on My mom is dying, and my bank account is dry. I need help
Is there a PayPal account people can send money to?

I thought I'd ask. Start the ball rolling.

futurist··on Meditate in front of your computer with Calm
Then there is Vow of Now: http://vowofnow.com

Different approach to the same problem.

futurist··on If you aren’t getting rejected, your goals aren’t ambitious enough (2010)
The video is a classic. Here's what inspired him to do it: http://rejectiontherapy.com
futurist··on Microsoft Office Online
The Russian people thought similarly in the 1920s about their letters and conversations - until in the dark of the night family members were dragged from their beds and deported to the Siberian tundras to die.
futurist··on Microsoft Office Online
Cliche? No, it's a reminder Microsoft sells it's users down the river.

Maybe you don't, but some people actually speak up for their rights.

futurist··on Ask HN: What are some alternatives to HN?
A lobster invite would be nice. Thanks in advance.
futurist··on New forms of 'racism' arise in science research
And then there is speciesism: http://i.word.com/idictionary/speciesism
futurist··on Coffitivity – Increase Your Creativity
The audio just kicks in without warning, as soon as the page loads. The year isn't 1997.
futurist··on Solo.im – A single founder peer group
Why are there so many of the same kinds of apps if ideas are easy? I think "idea harvesting" is definitely something to be concerned about.
