functionmouse··on Restoring 5 GHz Wi-Fi on an LG C5 by changing its webOS region
new locked down spyware TVs are so cheap, who would want to buy and move -your- locked down spyware TV?
functionmouse··on "Enshittification" Isn't Real
"Enshittification isn't real", says notorious private equity venture capitalist firm a16z.

Sounds like an Onion headline.

functionmouse··on Play Store blocks AuroraStore, hurting GrapheneOS users
Play Store and F-Droid are both official software repositories. I'm not confident the same can be said for Aptiode.
functionmouse··on Haiku R1/beta6 has been released
correctness of minor logic details is of general interest to no one, but of substantial benefit to everyone
functionmouse··on Haiku R1/beta6 has been released
In a world where Haiku is widely adopted, I figure its accessibility model would be much like that of Windows XP, in that it works by not restricting you from doing things, rather than specifically allowing certain things. XP and Haiku let the user do pretty much whatever, and for this reason, many disabled people still rely on systems like XP.
functionmouse··on Employers Are Making Job Candidates Jump Through Hoops to Prove They're Real
How about a hand shake?
functionmouse··on Ask HN: Why is AI civil tech and not military first?
Military industrialist Palmer Luckey orchestrated contemporary VR with his Oculus Rift so that consumers would subsidize the costs of his miltech projects. I believe this is the same thing. Push your miltech with the "gadgets and toys and digital assistants" angle so that regular people foot the bill.
functionmouse··on Digital amnesia: Taking screenshots makes you more likely to forget information
Yeah, that's why I took the screenshot, so I don't have to remember it. Silly
functionmouse··on The August 17 outage
Microsoft, who would also have an incentive to extinguish the largest hub for open source development, having already embraced and extended it.

15 years from now, they'll say it was obvious.

functionmouse··on Show HN: Built my 15-year-old game idea
I would prefer unstyled HTML tables to this slop

I would prefer a crayon drawing

I would prefer just seeing the prompt

functionmouse··on Air Theremin – a browser theremin you play by waving at your webcam
this is a novelty that great talented theremin players would find entertaining for 30 seconds before going back to their expensive Moog
functionmouse··on How do I permanently disable random Google Photos popup to backup photos? (2024)
So... What's the modern equivalent of gallery.apk ? Looking for just a simple image viewer that shows the "collections" view by default and preferably is GPL and does not attempt any sort of internet connection.
functionmouse··on Taking Pause – All property is theft
Once we start playing the "You-know-what-I-mean" game, you can be sure the other party is committed to not taking you seriously.

This blog post is a semantic argument, not a logical one.

functionmouse··on The other Sean Byrne doesn't exist
Yes. And they should be tattooed onto the person's arm, so there can be no mistake. Maybe a bar code?
functionmouse··on Secondhand book sales are booming. Is it because of AI?
We're no longer an economy that produces things to be consumed, but rather one that produces things that increase consumption.

Could be the makings of a dark age.

functionmouse··on Firefox is now the last major browser that still supports uBlock Origin
absolutely insane take
functionmouse··on The Asset with No Line Item

functionmouse··on Windows 11's built-in Weather app wastes more than 1 GB of RAM
take me back
functionmouse··on No one can afford to make Myst games anymore
I think it's that Myst was released in a hungry, undersaturated market, and the competition is a lot tougher now. I truly love what Cyanworlds is doing, but the fact of the matter is, I'd rather be playing TF2 Classic, or Animal Well, or Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, than Obduction.

Another problem is, their games were popular at a time when most people didn't even have an internet connection, and therefore had far more patience for offline gaming. Their games require a LOT of patience.

functionmouse··on A Tome of Forbidden Technologies
No. Red book audio spec is 44100hz.

And I'd wager this guy cannot tell the difference between 44.1kHz and native 192kHz in a controlled double blind study.

functionmouse··on ao486: x86-compatible Verilog core implementing all features of a 486 SX (2014)
Aww :( Tragic
functionmouse··on ICE will release body cam video only when seen in the agency's 'best interests'
Treason! Hold them accountable!
functionmouse··on I stopped trusting USB-C cable labels and started testing them
Actually, different cables should be called something different.
functionmouse··on How to Make a Nintendo 64 Game in 2026
Raycasters in the modern age are generally an artistic decision, not a technical one.
functionmouse··on Goodhart's Law Comes for Every Benchmark You Trust
Jokes on them, I don't trust benchmarks

Once something becomes a benchmark it is no longer a good benchmark.

functionmouse··on Online ad giant Adform was hacked, proving once again why ad blockers are needed
Are you equating the shopkeeper across the street earning 15 an hour to sell me my loaf of bread to the advertisement industrial complex?
functionmouse··on Online ad giant Adform was hacked, proving once again why ad blockers are needed
My town banned billboards entirely. It's been a resounding success.
functionmouse··on Online ad giant Adform was hacked, proving once again why ad blockers are needed
I have a feeling everyone with understanding of the situation or even a vague malaise opening a news article and being bombarded with popups that intercept their attention knows why ad blockers are needed, and any perceived "discourse" to the contrary is one sided, from the ad agencies and media platforms that largely and subversively direct the narrative.

It's getting harder by the day to tell sentiment apart from narrative.

functionmouse··on ICE Collected Nearly 1M People's DNA Last Year–Including Young Children
I won't get all pissy. Please, stop them!

Anything at all helps.

functionmouse··on AI-Generated Images Discourage Me from Reading Your Blog
Totally false equivalence.
