Equinox EV is also doing well.
fullstop··on FBI is buying location data to track US citizens, director confirms
The difference is that the right is actually doing this, and some parts of the left have suggested it.

I don't give the actions of one group the same weight as the opinions of some people in the other group.

Yes, and we tested this as well by letting him order some of them. He said that they were like the food he would get at home.

One other amusing bit, I had to stop him before he shoved an entire fortune cookie in his mouth and ate the paper. Those are 100% American.

I was watching some travel show on PBS, which I can't recall the name of. They were going through Egypt and met up with a guy from the area who walked them through getting the local food.

So much of what they had looked the same as the food that you could find in Greece, but they were fiercely adamant that it was both different and better.

Anyway, it's Mediterranean food in my mind. :-)

I often wondered about that.

We hosted an exchange student for a few weeks, and he was from Nanjing. Before he left the country, we took him to a Chinese restaurant and warned him that it was likely going to be more like American-Chinese.

He went through the menu and pointed out the dishes which were authentic and those which were not. I was surprised at how many were actually authentic -- it was about half of the menu. Maybe we were at a more authentic Chinese restaurant, as the menu was in both English and Chinese.

He was a great kid, and I really enjoyed the experience. He loved peanut butter and jelly, had to spit out ranch dressing, and did not care at all for pumpkin pie.

A lot of the places by me have both a Chinese menu and a Japanese menu. Some even have a Thai menu.

So when you're going out for Asian food, it really is that. No sense in being pedantic here.

Congratulations to the FreeBSD team! FreeBSD will always have a special place in my heart.
fullstop··on Tinnitus Is Connected to Sleep
I don't have tinnitus, but I live about a mile from a major highway. Depending on the time of day, the wind, the temperature, etc, it can carry the road noise directly to my yard. It doesn't bother my wife or my kids, but I hate it.

When it gets to be too much, though, I can just go inside, and that's not something that you can do with tinnitus.

I'm sorry that you're going through that, that must be terrible. Have you tried adding white noise?

fullstop··on Rising carbon dioxide levels now detected in human blood
I went to a Catholic school and had to attend services. I thought that I was just bored, but I'm pretty sure that my yawning had more to do with elevated CO2 levels.

Ah, maybe he shouldn't have shared that. Or at least aimed for something larger than a thumb.
fullstop··on Origin of the rule that swap size should be 2x of the physical memory
Having everything in RAM might also be better for security, unless you're encrypting the swap partition.

The contents of swap could be read after a power cut.

fullstop··on Hetzner Prices increase 30-40%
Absolutely. It's why I find working on a microcontroller with 1KB of memory so much more rewarding than, say, a Raspberry Pi.

fullstop··on Man accidentally gains control of 7k robot vacuums
The odds of a house with a smart thermostat also containing cameras is pretty high, though.
fullstop··on Man accidentally gains control of 7k robot vacuums
Mine is Z-Wave, the next model up required an internet connection and a subscription if you wanted to access it from remote.

The HVAC guy probably thought that I was nuts for wanting the one that I got, since the price was similar. Six years later and I'm still controlling it from Z-Wave.

fullstop··on Man accidentally gains control of 7k robot vacuums
Couldn't they get that information by pointing a thermal camera at the house? Most windows and doors would leak enough to show this information.

Or they could watch the air conditioner fans to know if it's on.

Smeg actually makes a toaster. It's expensive, looks cute, and doesn't work that well when compared to a far cheaper toaster oven.
fullstop··on Hetzner Prices increase 30-40%
I guess we have to get creative again.
fullstop··on Password managers less secure than promised
I take it that you don't have children?

I'm almost done with that aspect of my life now, but every school year it feels like there's a new slate of apps, parent communication portals, etc. I need to manage these as well.

It's way more often than twice a year for me. And it's accelerating.

Bitwarden's response [1] is interesting.

"All issues have been addressed by Bitwarden. Seven of which have been resolved or are in active remediation by the Bitwarden team. The remaining three issues have been accepted as intentional design decisions necessary for product functionality."

They don't expand on what those three are.

Does't TLS pinning alleviate the DNS attack?
fullstop··on Password managers less secure than promised
Every time I add an account, for one. And there's still plenty of (dumb) sites which force me to change my password and sometimes username periodically.

Keeping an offsite database in sync is tedious, especially if it's delivered via sneakernet.

fullstop··on Password managers less secure than promised
Not exactly. I need to have those offsite, but they are not modified at the same frequency as passwords.
fullstop··on Facebook is cooked
I unfollowed everyone except for a few family members. It really wants to give you the infinite scroll and started showing me some really bizarre stuff. So much AI slop, and random content.

For about a week it kept showing me nursing mothers, no matter how many times I said "I don't want to see this" and blocking. I have no problem with women nursing, but these were done in a way to be sexually provocative.

After that it started showing me AI houses and kitchens, with kitchen taps but no sink basin.

I just gave up at that point.

My daughter did this for her boyfriend's grandma, except she used Kinoite. The immutable aspect of it makes it very difficult to break.

She was over there recently and the downloads folder was littered with malware .exe files, so the grandma is trying her hardest to break it.

I can assure you that it is not.

Did you struggle with dirty looks at the park?

I wasn't a SAHP but I'd spend time with my kids at a park nearby and people would give me dirty looks for playing with my kids if my wife wasn't present.

fullstop··on The US is flirting with its first-ever population decline
This is why "Moms clubs" are a thing. I get that safe spaces are wanted, especially if the mothers needed to nurse, but dads were unwelcome in the chapter near me.
