fullshark··on Most data centers refusing to say how much water, electricity they use
Most of it comes from concerns about water and electricity rates sky rocketing and also simply not being available when humans need it. At least at the local level.
fullshark··on Netflix's 'Wonka's the Golden Ticket' Is a Ghoulish Misuse of AI Gene Wilder
I remember these debates about the Fred Astaire dirt devil advertisement which was over 25 years ago now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GR3JzxlcKBs.

At the end of the day I think if people find the use of AI charming/effective to resurrect dead celebrities they will go along with it. This sounds like a horrible tv show/use case but by and large audiences just want to be entertained and will accept "ghoulish" resurrections if it is entertaining. Darth Vader's voice will be around for quite a bit longer for example.

fullshark··on OpenAI is enlisting an influencer army to make it look 'good for the world'
Aka advertising.
fullshark··on George Lucas Returns to Earth, Bearing Gifts
I think he wanted to have it on Treasure Island at one point also
fullshark··on Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceXAI, Google sued over call to 'pace' AI development
Serves them right, it was obvious BS, likely cause the return on investment for frontier training is not there anymore. They didn't think through the implications of the "We're responsible stewards now" PR.
fullshark··on DraftKings Uses A.I. To Target the Gamblers Likeliest to Lose
I believe a temperance movement is on the horizon. The fact that we've turned smartphones into vice dispensers (and surveillance devices but that's another topic) is one of the greatest failures of western society.
fullshark··on Volkswagen Just Built an EV That Can Go Nearly 900 Miles on a Charge
Maybe they learned from their blunder with the ID Buzz. At this point though I simply don't trust any legacy automaker when it comes to producing and supporting EVs for their lifetime.
fullshark··on Global warming will exceed 1.5-degree limit, UN says
Technology is more feasible than politically driven "degrowth" or any of the other proposals.
fullshark··on AI doesn't suck, people do
It's made of incentives that promote low calorie information and outright falsehoods.
fullshark··on AI doesn't suck, people do
More like social media sucks
fullshark··on CIA Has a Gen Z Problem – Young Spies Are Just Not 'Feeling It'
This article was terrible, one data point contradicting the headline, then 4 quotes devoid of meaning.
fullshark··on Tim Curry has died
RIP His soul is escaping to the one place that hasn't been corrupted by capitalism.

fullshark··on The turbulent AI era is here
Not useful as soldiers even, and that includes those on the enemy side.
fullshark··on Anthropic tells staff to work from home due to possible security team strike
Pay them with chocolate rations or higher status bunk beds.
fullshark··on Technology Is Over
"The Internet is over" - Prince in 2010.

A quote that we all laughed at but I think he maybe was right.

fullshark··on Why Sal Khan't: On Learning by Making but Teaching by Telling
I don't agree and the hype surrounding his efforts was something much greater than what KahnAcademy actually is (a very useful resource).

He sold his vision in "The One World Schoolhouse" which was essentially global learning via all the best videos (and one unified curriculum) you can make and teachers effectively being technicians/teaching assistants. It was the vision that utopian minded technologists craved in the early aughts.

fullshark··on The Art and Beauty of Blade Runner (2015)
Genuine craft and human ingenuity can be a wonderful thing. Technology is a force multiplier and it's not always going to lead to better results in lesser hands.

In general there's also a problem that cinematography has gone to hell in filmmaking, because they want to be able to incorporate CGI more (cost) effectively and that means things like proper lighting and color grading is no longer utilized.

fullshark··on The Art and Beauty of Blade Runner (2015)
Absolutely, having Deckard be a "weak" replicant makes no narrative sense, and it also makes no sense thematically. It's about a human hunting machines and finding the humanity in the machines and discovering what humanity is lacking in himself. It's important that the line is blurred, but it's also important that he's not actually a replicant.
fullshark··on OpenAI: We're dropping API and credit pricing of GPT-5.6 Sol by over 20%
Almost all tweets are ads/PR
fullshark··on We are living in a version of the future out of J.G. Ballard or William Gibson
Yeah it's really amazing how prescient these books are given when they were written. I wish I enjoyed them more, I'm reading Mona Lisa Overdrive now and other than intellectual admiration of it all I mostly find the Sprawl trilogy a chore to get through. I don't enjoy the prose, and how dense it is I guess cause I am not a careful reader.
fullshark··on Netflix employee fired for sharing personal details in retreat trust exercise
They'll have no problem hiring, maybe one or two employees who deliver 10x will get demoralized and quit but this will not change a thing realistically re: their work force.
fullshark··on Nvidia's $750B in Deals Reignite Circular AI Fears
Just need a larger emergency fund to mitigate the risk, especially if you work in tech and you feel the crash would heavily impact your labor earnings (including possibly extended unemployment)
fullshark··on Nvidia's $750B in Deals Reignite Circular AI Fears
I'd kill my political career for the private sector rewards sure to follow.
fullshark··on Ask HN: Why are Meta products so bad?
The need for telemetry data for advertising/tracking, bloat in both software + their organization, having a monopoly and not having to worry about turning off users due to buggy software.
fullshark··on Alphabet's cash burn raises alarm for Big Tech as AI spending climbs
Their strategy to let Siri stagnate for 15 years and let everyone else take that market? Their strategy to put a bunch of not ready for consumer use AI features on their devices and then roll them back?

They just have such a strong hardware + os ecosystem that they can sit on the sidelines. They'll be able to negotiate with some LLM provider at a good discount when the time is right and put harnesses around it for actual useful features.

fullshark··on 42% of adults rely on their parents for financial support
The post WW2 boom in America was an exceptional time. This is the status quo for humanity.
fullshark··on SpaceX stock erases all its gains and slides below IPO price in intraday trading
And it worked. And whatever schemes he has in mind to have Space X merge with Tesla to increase market cap further will work too.
fullshark··on Zuckerberg 'Admits' Meta's Layoffs Were Ineffective
So you think he's not dimwitted? And instead of making an argument you just insulted the OP needlessly?

Let me guess is your argument: "He built a trillion dollar company and you didn't"

fullshark··on Zuckerberg 'Admits' Meta's Layoffs Were Ineffective
Because we don’t want to be left behind as members of the permanent underclass. Unless you own the god machine or work on improving it you don’t matter.
