fsuts··on LG denies TV spying claims, says tracking and snooping concerns 'not true'
Which paragraph?
fsuts··on LG denies TV spying claims, says tracking and snooping concerns 'not true'
Exactly, otherwise LG legal would be threatening the authors to publish an apology or be sued.
fsuts··on Rust is tier-1 language at Microsoft
Vs2022 is a $1k a year product

Mainly purchased by companies not individuals and will be run on workstation pcs with a decent amount of RAM

So your complaints about 2gb are in the minority I would say, as most users don’t care. So it’s not a Microsoft priority.

After all, they are stupid enough to pay $1k a year for an IDE per seat!!!

fsuts··on Thelio Mira AI Linux Workstation: 192 GB GPU Memory
Depends on your use case

If running models then Apple is fine, if training or tuning or large number of users then Nvidia is king

fsuts··on Thelio Mira AI Linux Workstation: 192 GB GPU Memory
Speaking of AMD CPU’s, how is Strix Halo coming along?

As that’s unified memory à la Apple and I think up to 128gb

fsuts··on Neki – Sharded Postgres
Kinda ironic that Planetscale built their company on open source Vitess that google built

And now planetscale have made a Vitess like equivalent for Postgres which they have made proprietary

fsuts··on What do Visa and Mastercard do? An intro to card networks
Uk law gives significantly more protection on credit card purchases than debit card. As it’s treated as a finance product so the lender is has responsibilities.
fsuts··on What do Visa and Mastercard do? An intro to card networks
USA is currently trying to bully Brazil who introduced their own PIX system.

I think USA has been behind the visa and Mastercard dominance as it gives them nearly every financial transaction globally and their intelligence has that data in realtime.

Not to mention the tax take and ensuring max use of US dollar as reserve currency

fsuts··on iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max
Yes longer battery life if the main benefit nearly every user experiences and appreciates
fsuts··on Shopify acquires Tailwind
But why?

What’s the commercial argument for shopify buying a css library. What’s the synergy and business benefits.

Is it just the hire of the tailwind devs with some fanfare?

fsuts··on iPhone Duo
It’s a status symbol

Think how much some people spend for the watch on their wrist or on jewellery.

fsuts··on iPhone Duo
It’s not their first attempt though? It’s their first public release.

Imagine they have 100 previous versions as it’s been mooted to have been in development for years

fsuts··on iPhone Duo
RIP iPad mini?
fsuts··on EasyEffects can improve laptop speaker sound quality
Laptop Manufacturers fail to appreciate how much better their product would be with good speakers. Particularly in today’s age where everyone is streaming music or watching videos much more than before.

MacBook Pro 16’s are great but most others suck.

fsuts··on GLM-5.3 is now open-weight
It’s not unified ram? I.e VRAM so it will struggle
fsuts··on GLM-5.3 is now open-weight
OpenAI have only just announced it and have every reason to hype it up.

Could be a long time till gets released

fsuts··on Doctors are finally learning to manage antidepressant withdrawal
Are you one of those religious Bible loons who believes couples need to stay together even if it’s a disaster relationship.

As you are wrong if you are. Children suffer more in bad parent relationships

fsuts··on Doctors are finally learning to manage antidepressant withdrawal
Most of the problems I would say are related to the modern isolated Nuclear family.

See that programmer sat next to you that is not a nice person? Well some kid had no choice but to have him as a parent.

Throw in a society that doesn’t value teachers and pays them below many other jobs and the kid spends all his day and evenings with no one to guide and nurture him or her.

fsuts··on BYD installed 10,000 hyper-fast 1,500kW chargers in just 5 months
It’s going to be interesting to see how USA’s hostile approach to Chinese cars is going to play out.

As rest of the world is allowing Chinese cars on their standard tariffs so their sales growth potential is enormous, and USA is effectively just 1 man holding a carrier bag in front of a platoon of battery powered.

fsuts··on Stripe said to abandon $50B pursuit of PayPal
PayPal originally took off as it was convenient and fast, saving you from filling in card details each time and it also allowed sending payments for private transactions using only an email address

Since then Apple Pay/Google pay/browser wallets have taken a big chunk of its fast checkout advantage

And mobile banking apps/instant transfer have taken out chunks of the private transactions, and more so as consumer to consumer transactions often had the parties using PayPal gift mode to avoid fees but that then had zero protection.

The 2020’s is much more crowded than 1990’s and 2020’s decades

Also it was its partnership with eBay that made it dominant and eBay no longer promote PayPal as preferred payment method.

fsuts··on Nvidia projects $673B in sales as AI demand widens
TSMC could charge more if they also lent the customer money to buy the chips

Same with ASMl who are the sole company behind their machines.

As could millions of other companies.

This is an unprecedented circular debt gamble. The market price is not based on affordability but distorted by the seller.

fsuts··on Nvidia projects $673B in sales as AI demand widens
The financial press regurgitates it and in return they get ad spend and exclusive stories.

It’s mutual dependency unfortunately, and will remain that way whilst there are shareholders and investors who own the publications and seek only ongoing returns

fsuts··on Hollywood's Video Game Era Is Here. Will It Be Any Good?
Ok, I’m a casual occasional gamer so don’t know the background to these things
fsuts··on Hollywood's Video Game Era Is Here. Will It Be Any Good?
Fallout I would say is the benchmark to beat for video game adaption to screen.

Much easier to make a kids movie based on a franchise like Mario than a more complex game like Fallout.

For those who haven’t seen it, recommended

fsuts··on Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B
Surely crashing the Ai industry (in terms of reducing commercial revenue) makes it harder for the leaders to keep raising money and so keep investing in r&d to the same levels. Thus allowing competitors without access to latest American hardware to keep up.
fsuts··on Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B
We live in now?

Has always been this way. Big companies always seek to buy fast growing startups and unfortunately the founders of these startups mostly take the money.

fsuts··on Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B
Ai companies are making their own chips, Apple unified and other unified ram solutions also a threat

Nvidia is making tons of money by selling GPUs at a very high profit margin. They will do anything to remain dominant

fsuts··on Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B
Nvidia don’t fundamentally care about open weight models

They care about their high margin GPUs being the dominant platform, otherwise they would have to reduce the price of their gpu/increase vram amounts.

Nvidia are making truck loads of money and want it to continue

fsuts··on Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B
AI companies seeking to release their own chips and Apple Metal and other unified memory solutions will all eat into Nvidias high margin GPU sales.

This can only be bad news, Nvidia didn’t buy hugging face to be good custodians but for business reasons.

Let’s hope an alternative platform emerges and takes off.

fsuts··on Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B
Why do you think it ‘probably was not profitable’ it has a dominant position and there are many ways to monetise that.
