frosting1337··on Open source server code for the BitCraft MMORPG
This is really cool, I don't really recall another MMO server written in Rust like this.
frosting1337··on The coming industrialisation of exploit generation with LLMs
It's as easy as drawing the rest of the owl, sure.
frosting1337··on The realities of being a pop star
I mean she basically points that out when she talks about going to restaurants.
frosting1337··on Fizz Buzz without conditionals or booleans
There's a conditional, though?
frosting1337··on The Head of the Cybertruck Program Quit Tesla. Model Y Leader Left Hours Later
He wasn't the "head of cybertruck" - if you look at his LinkedIn, he was a lead program manager. Still an important cog in the machine, but he'd been there for 8 years from an intern.

Model Y guy makes it sound like he was more of a key person, though.

frosting1337··on Apple's Services Revenue Expected to Top $100B for First Time
Also as an Apple customer, iOS and macOS' latest releases _look_ nice, but they're unpolished and iOS still has some bugs. They were correct in their assessment. New releases used to have actual quality to them, now they feel rushed out.
frosting1337··on Kurt Got Got
It does work.
frosting1337··on Meta Ray-Ban Display
Yes, it does, the link to Data & Privacy is at the bottom.
frosting1337··on Memory Integrity Enforcement
Haha, just because there's been bypasses doesn't mean it hasn't been effective.
frosting1337··on Mark Zuckerberg Shakes Up Meta's A.I. Efforts, Again
"He stayed on top by having the foresight to buy up anyone he could that even smelled like a competitor and had the luxury of still being under the radar at that time."

While it's easy to shit on such a strategy, that does in-fact make him a great CEO.

frosting1337··on Uv: Running a script with dependencies
I mean... it's in the docs?

https://docs.astral.sh/uv/concepts/cache/

frosting1337··on OpenAI and Microsoft tensions are reaching a boiling point
One theory is it's Sam Altman's way of wresting control away from the non-profit through diluting the shares.

It's not like he hasn't done such things before.

frosting1337··on Canonicals Interview Process
I mean that doesn't make any sense, but okay.
frosting1337··on Canonicals Interview Process
Anyone know what "that canonical article" is, as referenced at the very end of the timeline?
frosting1337··on Canonicals Interview Process
Using a 3rd person possessive pronoun like this isn't unusual or "promoting woke", it's English.
frosting1337··on Canonicals Interview Process
Can't really change much if the CEO and founder think it's a good idea.
frosting1337··on Show HN: I wrote a modern Command Line Handbook
I definitely think you should add more info to the landing page - I had no idea there was further information on the Gumroad page.
frosting1337··on Sleep apnea pill shows striking success in large clinical trial
It took me a year to get used to my mask, and I use a pillow mask. The difference with and without is night and day, yeah, but man adapting fucking _sucked_.
frosting1337··on How Riot Games is fighting the war against video game hackers
Valve is really bad at anti cheat. As in, their solution can barely be _called_ anti-cheat.
frosting1337··on How Riot Games is fighting the war against video game hackers
Because it's not for nothing.

Cheaters currently use entirely second PCs, or other extremely complicated methods of cheating, and are still getting caught.

Security isn't "for nothing", you make it as expensive as possible for cheaters/adversaries to win, and then keep raising the bar, to make the majority of users safe and secure.

frosting1337··on How Riot Games is fighting the war against video game hackers
Vanguard is developed in the USA, though I think Riot also has security people in Dublin.
frosting1337··on Native visionOS platform support
Apple should flick Godot a chunk of change to properly get this rolling.
frosting1337··on CIA Director Reveals Signal Comes Installed on Agency Computers
That's... not what they said.
frosting1337··on Retro Boy: simple Game Boy emulator written in Rust, can be played on the web
Pokemon - Red/Blue or Gold/Silver, and Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening.
frosting1337··on OpenAI asks White House for relief from state AI rules
Remember when they were a non-profit so that didn't matter? Ah..
frosting1337··on Apple has locked me in the same cage Microsoft's built for Windows 10 users
"Even though it's not designed to"

It is designed to, though. That's the thing. The line is arbitrarily drawn at not getting CLI/root access to your iPad.

His point is that over the years, Apple has blurred that line a lot. You can use keyboards and mice. You can do all your daily computing on an iPad - email, spreadsheets, YouTube, whatever.

But it's still locked down, for whatever reason, despite being a perfectly capable computer that doesn't necessarily need to be.

It's honestly really obvious what he's saying. iPads have changed over the last 5 or so years, and people on HN clearly haven't used one in a while. The author isn't _wrong_.

Apple spends all this effort to blur the lines between personal computer and a device you can compute on, and it mildly tricks users who don't necessarily realise there's a difference between the computer and the tablet, especially amongst younger generations who grew up on tablets ("iPad kids").

frosting1337··on Apple has locked me in the same cage Microsoft's built for Windows 10 users
He's complaining because Apple of the year have started to blur the line between a personal computer and a device that you can personally compute on.
frosting1337··on Apple has locked me in the same cage Microsoft's built for Windows 10 users
I mean the author explains his thoughts in the article, you should read it again.
frosting1337··on Intel appoints Lip-Bu Tan as its CEO
Actually, he sounds like the opposite, but anyway.
frosting1337··on Speedrunners are vulnerability researchers, they just don't know it yet
This is true if you're not really known. (Un)fortunately you need a reputation: need to be able to walk the walk if you can talk the talk.

Once you get over that hurdle, collaborating on targets is pretty common. Made $10k USD last month collaborating with someone in another country, in fact.
