frodo8sam··on An ALS drug fails, again
Agree, the Alzheimer's and ALS treatments that were approved recently were both cases where the patient advocacy groups stopped listening to experts and ironically harmed the people they are trying to help. It shows how important it is that the FDA keeps some emotional distance from the people they are trying to protect.
frodo8sam··on How to Produce Green Hydrogen for $1/kg (2023)
To add to that, there are already a number of energy intensive processes that already use hydrogen. Manufacturing fertilizers for example. Currently the hydrogen for these Processes is produced from natural gass but it's a matter of time before production using green energy becomes cheaper.
frodo8sam··on Google Will Pay You $5M to Figure Out What the Hell Quantum Computers Do
Computational chemistry seems like the obvious application. I guess the existing methods that run on classical computers are accurate enough for most purposes. These methods become prohibitively expensive for large systems but modern quantum computers are no were near big enough to be useful there anyway.
frodo8sam··on Rendering protein structures inside cells at the atomic level with Unreal Engine
Sounds pretty cool, how does EMAN2 deal with dynamic structures? I assume you'll get garbage if sufficiently different conformations get averaged together. Is there some kind of clustering to find similar conformations as is sometimes done in cryo-EM?
