freshnote··on Accepting my first credit card payment without PayPal, part 1/2
If this switch works for me, and I can finally be free of my PayPal taskmasters, I'll be subscribing to your candy service!
freshnote··on How tiny insects survive the rain
Interesting. You're all acting like a swarm of ants in downvoting me.

Think about it.

freshnote··on How tiny insects survive the rain
You claim insects are like "machines" that "mercilessly slaughter". If insects have no sentient attributes like mercy, how can they slaughter others mercilessly?

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Also: what you hate, you fear.

freshnote··on How tiny insects survive the rain
Karma is a boomerang. You'll see.
freshnote··on Obvious Goes Beyond Meat
I'm not a "meater" and yet I like imitation meat. Maybe a fake hot dog on the rare occasion. I concur with everything else you said though.
freshnote··on How tiny insects survive the rain
Not to derail too much, but insects are much misunderstood and wrongly vilified, which is why I wrote Take the Humane Stance with Ants: http://allsprawldown.com/animal-ethics/taking-an-ethical-sta...

Please share this with someone who is quick with the can of Raid.

freshnote··on Facebook 'boring'? 1 in 3 users are tuning it out
I left Facebook, but not to join anything else. I sometimes scratch my head why I signed up in the first place.

If family or friends want to reach me, email has held up surprisingly well over the years.

freshnote··on Entrepreneurship for the 99%
Sheeple mentality for the most part. I will be downvoted into oblivion for saying it, but it's true.
freshnote··on Ask HN: At what point is it not worth entering a market as a startup?
Depends on how in love you are with the idea. If you feel like you could own it, and really do something special with it, then do it.

However, if it's really about money - save your energy.

freshnote··on Oh, the Places You'll Go
I think Page and Plant did know. We learn and live by how others react to us. It's how we get a sense of who we are, how "good looking" and "smart" we are. It's a constant process of self and peer evaluation and grading, although often implicit.

Page didn't always rock. No doubt he had to figure it out like everyone else, but when he did he was clearly a Great song writer and riff maker. And that's Great with a capital G.

freshnote··on Well-Kept Gardens Die By Pacifism
I said much the same thing about the Megaupload debacle: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4047683

I see it here all the time, by users with extremely high karma.

freshnote··on Battling over Internet domain names
I think you've got to be more proactive about securing a domain name nowadays. You wait and it could be gone (it's happened to me before).

It sucks though, because I end up with lots of domains I thought were good and had every intention of using, but now are just an expense.

freshnote··on I am worried about my mounting debt
This is a deceptive and manipulative title that preys on a sensitive issue during hard economic times. You should be ashamed.
freshnote··on Show HN: Front page redesign to make room for ask, show, jobs and new posts
Whoa. Awesome job. Looks good even on my iPhone. I'll be using it for my home page.

I recommend submitting this website again in a few days. It deserves more attention.

freshnote··on Ask HN: What would Steve Jobs say about Facebook's IPO
When asked, he would divert the issue to Apple products. Always back to Apple.
freshnote··on LibreOffice Has Found its Rhythm
I was debating whether to use Office 365 or another Microsoft variant for awhile now, but this update is really snappy. Debate is over.
freshnote··on How to Stop Sucking and Be Awesome Instead
HN is every bit as "cliquey" as high school.
freshnote··on How Facebook is Turning Your Likes Into Ads
Maybe it's because I often use Facebook on behalf of retail businesses and consumer brands, but I've found Facebook's disregard for privacy unnerving for years now? And you haven't?
freshnote··on The Most Successful E-mail I Ever Wrote
This email, again? You guys must be new around here.

Seriously. The email isn't that big of a deal. If this amazes you in any way, get outside more.

freshnote··on So I heard you like share buttons...
I probably won't be using those buttons, but I appreciate the sense of humor :)
freshnote··on Megaupload Demands Return of Millions of Dollars From U.S. Govt.
Looking back at some of the earlier HN conversations, when Megaupload was first shut down by the US, you can see those who made damning accusations and blind assumptions that Megaupload were guilty.

These people should be ashamed. They are part of the problem.

It's baffling they would be so opinionated and cocksure although they plainly didn't know the facts.

I'm curious why these HN readers told bald faced lies. What's in it for them? How many other discussions have they polluted with misinformation?

freshnote··on Why am I getting a "stop spamming us" message?
No worries :)
freshnote··on Why am I getting a "stop spamming us" message?
The admins here are a bunch of spazzes. But that said, if you're constantly promoting your own stuff and not contributing otherwise, expect to be perceived as a spammer.
freshnote··on 37signals selling Sortfolio on Flippa for 480k
I agree. Selling on Flippa effectively kills any brand goodwill Sortfolio had. Worse yet, not responding to the questions being asked will ensure the site won't be sold.
freshnote··on Hacker Lifestyle Tips: How to Feel Satisfied with Every Day
Simple, unless you get full-blown OCD like I do over certain ideas. Then everything: exercising, sleep, eating healthy, etc all goes out the window until the obsession reaches its ultimate conclusion.

So no, it's not so simple for some people.

freshnote··on Museum of Endangered Sounds
I agree the TV image is a bit NSFW. It disqualifies the site from me ever showing my daughters.

I'm not sure why (as I'm a heterosexual guy) but these kind of photos seem to dumb the content down and I feel like I should have a Coors Light in my hand.

freshnote··on Why I will not negotiate with you about cost
I'm getting tired of self-righteous comments that make sweeping generalizations. I've been in the web design, Internet marketing business as a small biz owner for 7 years. My experience has been some clients are not open to negotiation. They've already crunched the numbers and came to a decision. They tell you there is a reduction in rate / of hours etc. Take it or leave it (I've done both).

Counter-attacks? Leave that for World of Warcraft.

freshnote··on Show HN: Mission Statement - Keep track and refine project ideas
I was reluctant to check your link out with a name like "mission statement". It's one of the most unfun names I've seen, but I like the idea. Glad I checked it out.

P.S. Call it Zingr or something.

freshnote··on [dead]
Call it what it is and keep your stupid gimmicks to yourself.

It's called mental illness. It's not funny, it's not the movies and this isn't Yahoo news.

freshnote··on Let’s Be Less Productive
I work in person with local businesses, but it's a tough market (and I agree with what everyone has said).

Right now, I'm looking to get away from web-focused work. That's why I'm working on my own stuff, but it all takes time.
