freecodeio··on The Legend of von Neumann [pdf]
"if x person is y, and x person has a specific trait, then me being also y means I have the that specific trait"

In other words, if you don't have a dog, you're gay. (If you know the comic)

freecodeio··on Bez: Generating a browser engine from specs and tests
> Speed is probably not part of a web spec.

"being a grandmother is not part of the bike frame spec so my grandmother with wheels is a bike"

freecodeio··on Before pixels: Modular industrial dashboards
don't wanna throw any shade but I don't see anything unique about it that makes it a "pixel version of a physical dashboard", it just looks like a very 2015-unstyled bootstrap
freecodeio··on Gemini 4 Argon
all the enterprise clients which the two frontier companies rely on have the money to buy the hardware and run a frontier model themselves, it just becomes a nobrainer to buy your own hardware if you have 10-20b token output per week
freecodeio··on Gemini 4 Argon
you are really just talking out of your ass here, no offense

just because more and more agents are doing human work, that in no way means the model somehow becomes magically more intelligent, it just means the work will stall and continue on at the same level forever

hell even if they hypothetically have an internal model that can output the entire training data set in a better format, there's no scientific evidence that the newer format has new information that is sufficient enough to train a better AI

as a matter of fact the scientific evidence is on the contrary

freecodeio··on Most data centers refusing to say how much water, electricity they use
I don't know where do you live but even my small nephews and nieces understand that a 1 meter cube of water is A LOT OF WATER, because mentally, we have lots of 2 liters bottles to compare it to
freecodeio··on Most data centers refusing to say how much water, electricity they use
mate the reason why you can't just build a house without a permit is because the government needs to account how you're using existing public infrastructure, not because they just wanna throw bureaucracy at you (though it might be the case most of the times)

that's all there is to it, accounting for existing infrastructure, and somehow 500kwh is enough to invoke a reason to do so

freecodeio··on Why Is Sam Altman a Free Man?
hmm, if you give a gun to someone you know is unreliable and tends to shoot things at random, is that really negligence? I'd argue it's malice?
freecodeio··on Why Is Sam Altman a Free Man?
just so you know, this is why they're not getting any legal pushback, the free, legal, "well acktually" commentary on the internet

if people called it out for what it is, a reckless negligent destruction of private property by a company, someone will feel the moral obligation to bring justice, if there's any to be found

freecodeio··on Where's the "Intelligence Explosion"?
Just like when you upscale a picture 100 times by 200%, and then you zoom in and start seeing all these artifacts, so is the outcome of "recursive intelligence".

We are going to be stuck in a few years of delusion, but there will be some entertainment as a side effect. AI executives and researchers are going to delve even deeper into AI psychosis thinking that the equivalent of psychedelic trip-looking school buses at 4000x zoom of an orange cat's ass, except in the form of text, is actually something intelligent and we just don't have the capacity to understand the "super intelligence's thoughts", all the while pouring another few trillions.

freecodeio··on So long Google, and thanks for all the nudes
Google has had automated reviews for a decade now, I think there's just so much volume (I read somewhere in linkedin there's 1000 apps per hour submitted in playstore alone) that is choking the system.

That's an average of 24,000 apps per day.

With that amount of volume, it would be safe to assume that there's more reasons why google just won't accept an app even if it works fine or fits all the public guidelines.

freecodeio··on We're gonna need a lot more mathematicians
> Nothing is deterministic.

you clearly don't know how transistors work, which is ironic because it's a thread in hackernews about LLMs and mathematics

freecodeio··on How to keep enjoying programming in a world of LLMs
people get AI psychosis because they see tailwind-infused gradient dashboards and think every codebase has much smaller problems than this, so AI can build everything else

we have a 6 year old codebase with pretty much everything proprietary and there's no AI that can keep up without having an entire team to create an in-house RAG and throw thousands per day in tokens and spend expensive developer time on reviewing and asking for stupid changes that don't fit in

these arguments would make much more sense if tokens were practically free and LLMs could run in pc graphics cards, but when the model requires a data center that can be seen in space just to give you 100 tokens per second then you're basically a car in 1900 when all the roads were dirt roads for horses

freecodeio··on Unsealed Briefs in Authors’ Case v. Microsoft/OpenAI
I don't think billionaires hating the poor is an invented scenario, the writing is on the wall when you open top 100 richest people
freecodeio··on How Answerly Search can improve your dashboard's user experience
From the article: "Good UX means fewer things to click or tap. And that is precisely what Answerly Search does; it takes John straight to inviting their teammates without having to figure out too much or do anything in-between!"
freecodeio··on How to improve your website's loading speed
Fast website load times have been the hot talk for the past 3-4 years - mainly because everyone can get their website to load at an impressive 200ms. I’ll explain my take on how to approach these load time numbers, so all you have to do is put some effort and read through this article.
