free_bip··on Big Ball of Mud (1999)
The codebase I work on is a Big Ball of Mud. It takes roughly 3x the effort to make any functional changes due to this (and thus we have 3x the devs we actually need). When it was framed like that, the business was eager to start a total rewrite project.

free_bip··on Supreme Court overturns 40-year-old "Chevron deference" doctrine
This won't "make" Congress do anything. They'll continue sitting on their asses because they face no consequences for their (in)actions.
free_bip··on Supreme Court overturns 40-year-old "Chevron deference" doctrine
> You are correct that the US Constitution is poorly suited to governing a nation of ~1/3 billion people in the modern world.

Which is exactly why this is such a terrible decision.

free_bip··on Solving puzzles faster than humanly possible
My answer to your complaint of "I don't remember my password" is that you should be using a password manager. If you are using one and forgot it anyway, this is clearly not the fault of steam. The other 2 are easily googleable/chatgptable, so I'll leave that to you.
free_bip··on Solving puzzles faster than humanly possible
This comment is completely off the rails. Your extremely idealistic interpretation of "I should just run the program directly" is preventing you from gaining enjoyment out of literally the most popular gaming program in existence. And it's popular for a reason: It's really damn good at its job. All these extra steps are just a consequence of you extremely rarely opening it - steam is likely giving you the "first start" experience because it's been so long (I say this because nobody else is reporting issues like this online). I've seen it happen after certain major updates too. There's also an element of PEBKAC; password managers are a thing and make logging in take no more than a couple clicks.
free_bip··on Highly realistic talking head video generation
Who's proposing such a device to get widespread adoption? I've heard of sensor data signing [1] but not what you're describing.

free_bip··on Getting 50% (SoTA) on Arc-AGI with GPT-4o
This isn't necessarily true, OpenAI isn't open about how their data cleaning process works.
free_bip··on Highly realistic talking head video generation
No such thing as tamper proof hardware, only tamper resistant hardware. Also the whole "sign what came from the sensor" idea is widely known to not work because you can easily record a playback of doctored footage. Lots of LLM-isms from this comment too.
free_bip··on SoftBank's new AI makes angry customers sound calm on the phone
Better hope it doesn't introduce any hallucinations, otherwise customers will get even more ~~angry~~ calm
free_bip··on Ticketmaster breach affects more than half a billion users
The actual relevant question is: how many of you make a point of disallowing this? You have to go out of your way to make that not work, given that + is a valid character in email addresses.
free_bip··on Farmers must kill 4.2M chickens after bird flu hits Iowa egg farm
Wouldn't it get cooked to remove any bacteria/viruses first?
free_bip··on Apple signs deal with OpenAI for iOS, still wants Google as an 'option'
They would be giving up massive amounts of profit if they did that. There would be a serious case for investors to sue if they made that decision.
free_bip··on HumaneAI pin maker selling itself for $1B
That's a different company (Rabbit Inc), not Humane Inc
free_bip··on Microsoft Phi-3 Cookbook
Looking at the benchmarks, it seems like Phi-3 Small (7B) marginally beats out Llama3-8B on most tasks, which is pretty exciting!
free_bip··on Google cuts mystery check to US in bid to sidestep jury trial
Paying your parking ticket does not change the legal process - The govt sends you a letter saying you must pay the fine or challenge in court, and you pay it.

What Google is doing is changing the legal process - The govt wants a jury trial, Google is saying "here's some money, now no more jury trial." It seems more than a bit different, at least to my non-lawyer eyes.

free_bip··on Google cuts mystery check to US in bid to sidestep jury trial
Your comment did not in any way refute the claim that this would be considered a bribe in other countries. It's an exchange of money for a favorable (to them) change in the legal process, which seems like a reasonable definition to me.
free_bip··on F# Is the .NET Rust
Flagging is for a breaking of the guidelines, not for having a bad take.
free_bip··on Ubuntu 24.10 to Default to Wayland for Nvidia Users
I also run KDE plasma 6 and when I try to play Stardew Valley in particular on Wayland I get horrific flickering at ~15hz that I'm certain would trigger someone's photosensitive epilepsy... It's really bad. On X server it works as expected.
free_bip··on Sparse Llama: 70% Smaller, 3x Faster, Full Accuracy
Specifically this is Llama2, not Llama3, was a bit disappointed from that. Also wasn't totally clear from the article - will this actually increase GPU inference speed / decrease GPU memory usage?
free_bip··on How did authorities identify the alleged LockBit boss?
I don't understand how a hacker that's targeting US infrastructure would be considered an "opposing warfighter" in the context of the Russia-Ukraine war?
free_bip··on How did authorities identify the alleged LockBit boss?
Preeeeeetty sure that's a war crime, not that the US is any stranger to those
free_bip··on Claude is now available in Europe
Still not available in Canada. Why? What possible regulation could be preventing use here but not in Europe?

free_bip··on Apple Closes in on Deal with OpenAI to Put ChatGPT on iPhone
That will 100% lead to the weights getting leaked, I doubt OpenAI would risk that
free_bip··on Tesla Quietly Removes All U.S. Job Postings
You're the one who claimed the market will solve this problem, the onus is on you to provide evidence for your position. Additionally there are plenty of cases out there of objectively terrible CEOs (Elizabeth Holmes comes to mind) that don't get booted out - it usually takes regulators or even the justice department to deal with it in those cases. Which is exactly what's being proposed.
free_bip··on Tesla Quietly Removes All U.S. Job Postings
Where's your evidence that the market has been even attempting to solve the problem of people (such as Musk) holding multiple C-suite positions simultaneously? I've seen no such evidence. If anything it seems to be supporting it, given that Tesla shareholders seem primed to vote on giving Musk 50 billion USD.
free_bip··on Microsoft PlayReady – Complete Client Identity Compromise
That's a video game DRM scheme, not a video DRM scheme
free_bip··on Befreak is a purely reversible two-dimensional programming language (2003)
Remainder after division is one. E.g. 12 mod 4 = 0. There's no way to reverse that operation given only the output and the modulus. (x mod 4 = 0 has infinite solutions)

Bitwise operators are another. A & B, A | B, A << B, A >> B are all in general not invertible given the output and B. (e.g. A | 1 = 1, is A 0 or 1?)

Now I haven't looked at the language in detail, maybe there's a way around this, but it sounds like if truly every single operation is invertible, then there would be no way to calculate these simple functions.
