You are right. I started my career in COBOL and I know my way around a mainframe and openvms. When I looked into jobs, they were paying far less than I can make coding in Java, Javascript or C#. They won't pay a decent hourly, so they won't find people. We're out here, but won't take a pay cut.
I live on the Huron River in southeast Michigan and like to tease my son that in a few thousand years we will have the falls in our back yard. He is somewhat skeptical but loves the idea.
Having trouble taking satisfactory breaths while laying flat? See a doctor. Feeling out of breath abnormally while working out? See a doctor. Got an Apple Watch? Just for kicks take your ekg. It is crude but can detect abnormal heart rhythms.
I will buy another device from them, like a phone or a watch, if they guarantee in writing that it will leak all over my floor daily like their damned fridge.
Or, in my case, i've been screwed by MS so many times over the years tht it feels great to have excellent alternatves and watch the arrogant asses struggle. I won't buy their products again and they have earned my enmity. I hope they lose billions.
Society has been going to hell in a handbasket because the younger generation is (lazy, stupid, disrespectful, ignorant, wanton, lustful, unmotivated, etc...) since Plato's time. I think it's B.S. The people in the 20'S are the ones that we've asked to fight two expensive, difficult ground wars for us in a decade, and they've stepped up. I trust that generation (I'm a mid-40's Xer) more than I trust the Boomers or my own, as we're the ones that have racked up a 13 Trillion dollar debt. We're now leaving it to the twentysomethings to pay off. Dear Twenty-somethings: On behalf of my "older and wiser" generation, I apologize. Sorry we wrecked the economy and spent so much of our nation's wealth on crap that we can't even afford to hire teachers any more.
