franktankbank··on US Suspends Visa Program for Tech Firms Including Microsoft
Maybe they weren't exactly doing that. Calling a developer something else doesn't make it so.
franktankbank··on US Suspends Visa Program for Tech Firms Including Microsoft
Microsoft sucks tho. Its like cheering on cancer. If you believe in the good of immigration by god man don't let them suffer inside Microsofts bowels.

Consciousness is not a high bar for human consumption.
franktankbank··on An AI sovereign wealth fund isn't progressive – it's techno-imperialism
That becomes a tail wagging the dog ehh? Fed the one giving them money and the corps tell you what to do. Where does democracy fit in?
franktankbank··on AI needs $6T in annual revenue to justify data centre boom
The idea would be its deflationary I guess. Your dollar goes further with these tools.
franktankbank··on As A.I. makes law firms more efficient, clients ask: 'Where's my discount?'
UHG owns the whole apparatus. They are very happy with cost increases.
franktankbank··on I said no and Apple said yes
Gotta ask what hardware you are running. It makes a world of difference.
franktankbank··on Microsoft exec called AI scraping 'the largest theft of labor in human history'
LOL I have no idea about the dog in the manger. You have my full attention, please tell me the story.
franktankbank··on Microsoft exec called AI scraping 'the largest theft of labor in human history'
Sure thats obviously how it works today.

Now what do I do next time someone comes and asks how to do something?

franktankbank··on Microsoft exec called AI scraping 'the largest theft of labor in human history'
Imagine someone asks you how to do something at work, you tell them. Then they create a huge packet filled with bullshit about how it got done and now they are your boss.
franktankbank··on A Third of Americans Cannot Name the Three Branches of Government
And they work in mass media.

franktankbank··on U.S. State Department pauses immigrant visa applications
Personally I found Indians to be cloistered, two-faced and loose with the truth in my work.
franktankbank··on U.S. State Department pauses immigrant visa applications
Who cares where this so called innovation happens? Won't it be cheaper for all of us if the salaries are in much lower cost of living places? Why would a US citizen give a shit?
franktankbank··on Andreessen Horowitz is investing billions into a bleak future
How is that hacking?
franktankbank··on As AI eats the web, the internet’s collective memory is disappearing
> The court specifically determined that the Internet Archive was guilty

This doesn't seem to be a contradiction. Sometimes the courts are wrong or even the law is wrong. It is just a label.

franktankbank··on Civilian plane crash in New Mexico tied to military GPS blocking
I think the GP assumption is that there is a bad actor intent on serious harm.

I'm not really sure where I side on this.

Ideally Defense would be able to conduct exercises without worrying about harming civilians. But that seems impossible to drive to 0.

I think the top level commenter comes across as a bit one sided. How often is due-diligence done by the pilots? Could the guidance provided be more well defined and reduce these incidences to several orders of magnitude less? Hopefully the military is not purposefully inflating incidences for nefarious purposes or instigating specific instances.

franktankbank··on U.S. used 'virtually all' of its long-range precision missiles during Iran war
Dumb argument though when UHG owns the hospitals, pharmacy and the insurance company. They can make the "profit" of any one of them be anything they want really.
franktankbank··on The old-school way of keeping the summer heat out of your home
I have a temp controlled fan (I should verify its working). The thermostat is downstairs so the upstairs where we slept was generally 5 F hotter. Installed that fan near the roof peak (actually replaced an existing vent) and it made a big difference in the summer.
franktankbank··on DeepSeek pause fundraise after comments on compute gap to US leaked (transcript) [pdf]
Also why do we want to kneecap?
franktankbank··on Ask HN: Why are US tech workers so pro open borders?
Liechtenstein ain't going to swamp anything tho right? Very long paragraphs for a dumb conclusion.
franktankbank··on Ask HN: Why are US tech workers so pro open borders?
I'm not really sure how to clarify what I mean by Trojan horse. I think people respond to incentives so I don't really care how people take advantage of that. I do think that there is some shortsightedness on the part of the people that created the incentives. If not shortsightedness perhaps a cultural cynicism on one or the other side of the exchange.
franktankbank··on Ask HN: Why are US tech workers so pro open borders?
I used to have more open attitudes, probably mostly stemming from the idea that America should take in the best and the brightest and that was a big driver of Americas rise to power. I sort of see it more like a Trojan horse as used in the last 30 - 40 years.
franktankbank··on British Steel taken into public ownership to protect 'vital' UK supply
We follow a path governed only by the logic chain of previous mistakes. Our next recognition of one could be pretty brutal.
