For advanced autocomplete (not code generation, but can do that too), basic planning, looking things up instead of web search, review & summary, even one shooting smaller scripts, the 32b Q4 models proved very good for me (24gb VRAM RTX 3090). All LLM caveats still apply, of course. Note that setting up local llm in cursor is pain because they don't support local host. Ngrok or vps and reverse ssh solve that though.
Until you change model in one of the tabs and all other tabs (and editor instances!) get model changed, stop what they're doing, lose context etc. There is also a bug where if you have two editors working on two codebases they get lost and start working on same thing, I suppose there is some kind of a background workspace that gets mixed up.
Seeing math on Lined Pages is unsettling to me. I agree with author that Blank Pages tend to become a mess, and that Gridded Pages are too "noisy", that's why Dotted pages are perfect and prefered for Journals, especially ones with very light dots. I wonder why I don't see more of those in math.
Surely you're referring to occasional full load, not 24/7 load? Or 100% usage on some but not all cores? 100% used CPU means unresponsive system usually, and things crashing.
Exactly what I wanted to get across. That's why I have 3 personal pages/blogs and a separate forum. Only people very close to me know for all of them. Otherwise people get weird about you doing so many, so varied things. Here I m not talking even about work related relationships, on a personal basis people feel insulted and as if it is a competition if you list what you do when they ask you to. I have super focused, 16h days at the lab/office, of course I ll get a lot done... https://supermemo.guru/wiki/Planning_a_perfect_productive_da...
I found it is best to keep quiet, not even have a (directly attached to your name) blog with such varried content, and instead just send appropriate version of your CV when needed. When it comes to interviews I found it helps that I'm in my office/lab space, able to pick up the cam and show the person on call contents of my shelves and present few details about them on the office whiteboard. But even then they of course doubt you.
I mean I like duckdb but this feels like you're pushing for it. On my system postgis comes from apt install, and it's one command to activate the "plugin". Is the night and day part not having to run random sh script from the internet to install software on my system?
Put him on debian stable with xfce and no sudo if he is such a bother. Sounds to me this is a people problem, not Linux problem. Do you miss windows or do you miss not having to spend time with kid on things that bother you?
Bartowski quants on hugging face are excellent starting point in your case. Pretty much every upload he does has a note how to pick model vram wise. If you follow the recommendations you'll have good user experience. Then next step is localllama subreddit. Once you build basic knowledge and feeling for things you will more easily gauge what will work for your setup. There is no out of the box calculator
