fragmede··on Tumbler Ridge shooter's ChatGPT use "more disturbing" than known: reporter
Yeah but that's not a crime. Having fantasies that you recreate digitally is one thing. Sharing them with other people is another. It's another thing entirely to actually do them though. At the end of the day, we're trending in a dangerous direction of thought crime, where thinking things is a crime. Which it's not. I've already committed multiple felonies in my imagination before breakfast, merely by thinking them, but because they're a figment of imagination and no one got hurt, there's nothing wrong with that.
fragmede··on OpenTPU – An open-source AI accelerator, developed by AI
Yeah but by this point, an AI can schedule a Cron job to tell itself to do something, so theoretically the human only has to give it the gentlest nudge and the AI and can do the rest.

fragmede··on Worth Building
If you look up the domain using their system and it doesn't exist, the person running the system could come in and buy it out from under you, and then offer to sell it back to you at a higher price. tbc I'm not accusing anyone of doing this, but that's the failure mode people are afraid of.

There are shades. Sweden allows the sale of alcohol, but it's tightly controlled. Still legal, but you have to buy it from government run stores, and they close early, and bars have to follow a bunch of laws too. Total prohibition doesn't work, yes, but that doesn't mean the government should also be totally hands off of it either.

fragmede··on We want you to build the next Git platform on Cloudflare
The problem is git is three things, a command line interface, a wire protocol, and a database format, and you can't replace all three at once if you want to gain any acceptance. So you have to chip away at the individual pieces. The real problem though is that AI makes version control invisible because the agents are capable of producing the artifacts. AI makes git's data model all wrong. What you want is then a way for AI to be able to make, say, 1,000 views into the codebase, cheap. That involves spinning up VMs/containers and is a much different problem than hey, let's make github2.com.

fragmede··on Mike Tomlin spent 12 years building a Minecraft city
Yes but the bureaucracy is the point. It gives people jobs and a mission in life and with AI to help, it doesn't have to suck. With UBI you end up reinventing government to decide what to do anyway. Should we build that dam or that bridge? Who gets to decide? It all comes down to conflict resolution.

fragmede··on We want you to build the next Git platform on Cloudflare
We want more Cloudflares. The problem is the concentration of power into any single entity that a person controls.

It lives on as Google docs. Go to http://docs.new and then share the link to collaborators. It's so smooth. It's sticky. I have hope that Google will figure out how to evolve that into a bigger platform, but maybe someone else will come along and do it.

They might, but my read on human psychology over civilization is that there needs to be a system in place to incentivize it. Fortunately I'm not in charge of anything, all I can do is blather about things on the Internet.

Administration overhead is people having jobs and coworkers and interacting with other people. If the point is to give people jobs, why would we want to get rid of jobs?
