You are the one thinking in racist terms not the OP.

More and more tests means more and more cases. More cases with less deaths means the mortality percentage is lower. The number of cases does not matter at all.

BTW God should be capitalized it's a proper noun.

I am talking about the former which is true. I concede there is a strain on staff. There seems to be a belief out there that hospitals are already full which is not true.

It's also impossible to know if we if we have peaked or not. It's just like trying to time the stock market. The only thing that really matters is the death rate. The rate of cases doesn't matter and is likely under counted. We are testing more and more people which increases the case rate. If we tested everyone including those with no cases and found a lot more people than expected have the virus the death percentage would go down.

I am also skeptical of how the start of the spread in the US was determined. It's possible it was much earlier and early cases were confused with Flu and we are in fact near the peak of the death rate.

Yep everyone in rural places blindly goes to church no matter every Sunday (eye roll).

In 2018 CA hospitals actually were over capacity for the flu. They aren't now as much as the covid obsessed want them to be.

It's nearly as dumb as "serverless"

Stereotype much?

I doubt there is any definitively proven date of the start of the spread. It very well could have started sooner than claims.

I grew up rural bet you didn’t.

Y’all need to not compare absolute case numbers on an exponential curve between countries with vastly different populations.

Our death rate per capita is substantially lower than China and Italy for example.

There are zero hospitals in America that over capacity right now including NYC.

Like guns the virus is much more of a problem in urban places than rural places. Americans not in cities aren’t going to take much more of this shutdown imo.
fourmyle··on What is the engineering hiring bar?
Biggest difference is references actually matter.
fourmyle··on What is the engineering hiring bar?
It's different because having the preferred genitalia isn't equal to having a degree from a top university.

You are a fine engineer and there are many people that are working at FANG that are worse than you. Just keep grinding and don't give up. You have built a solid foundation the past few months. All of these companies let you interview again. Just keep practicing, albeit at a slower pace, and try again next year. You will eventually break through. I succumbed to depression after getting rejected after a lot of work my last cycle. I wish I wouldn't have and just kept grinding. There is a lot of luck involved in this game between getting questions you know or are good at or getting a good interviewer.
fourmyle··on E3 2020 Cancelled
You will either hate it or you will think whichever SoulsBourne game you play first is the pinnacle of gaming and you will play all of them and they will consume you and other games will cease to be fun. It is the curse.

fourmyle··on Ask HN: How do I escape webdev?
Practice Leetcode for half a year until you get good at interview questions. Scour your network for referrals to big companies. Do well on the Leetcode interview you will get. Once you get in work for about a year then say you are unhappy and transfer teams. Go to a distributed systems, ml, ai team etc.
fourmyle··on Firefox 75 on Wayland now to have full WebGL, working VA-API acceleration
I run clamshell mode on a regular dpi monitor and the laptop is hi dpi. Everything rescales when switching between clamshell mode and laptop mode on Wayland (Sway). I tried to get it to work as well with xorg i3 and xrandr but I couldn’t. I would always need to close everything and restart my workflow when switching between modes.
fourmyle··on Firefox 75 on Wayland now to have full WebGL, working VA-API acceleration
I use Sway but what I do is use Google Hangouts in Chromium (Xwayland) instead of Firefox (Wayland) when I want to screen share. I heard Zoom doesn't work yet though.
fourmyle··on Google's ambitious push into gaming is floundering
The main issue is streaming services have too much latency to attract core gamers. I barely find Steam Link playable on my home network. Nothing breaks immersion more than lag. It’s like page load times. The occasional jitter matters. The lag spikes and compression artifacts are killers not the average latency.

I barely find Steam link playable on my home wired network.
fourmyle··on Unix as IDE (2012)
If Firefox can pull it off so can Jetbrains. X does not work for mixed dpi and xrandr isn’t a solution. Wayland has been a thing for 15 years. If Apple released a new window system devs would support it why not Linux? Your view is essentially there are starving kids in Africa so you should starve too.
fourmyle··on Unix as IDE (2012)
There are language servers for Java now for auto complete in Vim etc.
fourmyle··on Unix as IDE (2012)
IntelliJ Editors just straight up not working on Wayland right now has driven me insane. I really like Sway (i3) and Wayland is a must for mixed DPI setups. Now I have started using Kakoune and LSP for Go and Python and it works great. I tried Neovim for a while but having another window manager inside of Sway is too much of a burden. Kakoune opens new windows in Sway (or tmux). Combined with a plugin to make Firefox open tabs in a new window always I found my dream setup.
