fosap··on How the US Treasury imposes sanctions on me and every other "Stephen Law"
I think the word for this is "Kafkaesque".
fosap··on Kvazaar HEVC/H.265 encoder released under GPLv2
I'm sure you can do that for GPL software aswell, and i don't see witch part of that clause forbids it.
fosap··on “Marriage promotion” is a destructive cargo cult
I'm not from the us, but i do have these powers form my sister and my parents (and they do for me). We can for each other decide what medical procedures should and shouldn't be done. In a extreme case that hopefully does not happen soon we may even decide life sustaining measures to be stopped. Where I'm from one can simply give such powers to another person.
fosap··on Dropbox for Business
Host your valuable business secrets with easy NSA access.
fosap··on Keyboard innovation is making them worse
I'd like to see some science on RSI. All i can find now is anecdotal evidence, and often does not make much sense (e.g. vi is better than emacs because emacs uses the hardly reachable control key, but in vi mode changes are just as hard)

I think this is very hard to research because it need a long time and people often change habits in that time.

that said, I hate apple keyboards. If there was a macbook air with a thinkpad keyboard (including trackpoint), replaceable accu and better linux support i'd pay 3k€ for that.

fosap··on Keyboard innovation is making them worse
That key is ridiculously placed. I but know i like it very much. I mapped it to f13 and that key opens a new terminal. I think that way it is very useful.
fosap··on Solution claimed for Navier-Stokes equations, one of the millennium problems
I was surprised by the long motivation aswell. OTOH, spending 12% of a paper with the motivation does not sound excessive. That said, I don't understand much, due to not knowing Russian and not in depth knowledge about the topic.
fosap··on Such DFW. Very Orwell. So Doge. Wow.
It's not me bragging with or making fun of the lack of intellect.
fosap··on Such DFW. Very Orwell. So Doge. Wow.
And this is why I'm not taking anybody serious using that meme. Using it is saying "look at me, I am retarded".
fosap··on Such DFW. Very Orwell. So Doge. Wow.
"Doge" is even more childish and cancerous than ragecomics. In 2 years most of us will try to forget how popular it once was.
fosap··on 4K is for programmers
120 fps, not 1200 fps
fosap··on Cryptocat for iPhone and Android – Call for Review
Great to hear that you switched to older and audited code. Could you explain what relationship this app has to the javascript version?
fosap··on Cryptocat for iPhone and Android – Call for Review
And why the hell should i use a app that is written by know poeple that prooven they have no clue about crypto? Why shouldn't i use one of the many apps that support OTR?
fosap··on Rex – palm-sized, single-board computer for DIY robots
I wonder how much power it drains. The RaspPi uses "only" 3 Watt, but that is a way too much for many interesting applications. There are some hacks to reduce to the power usage (by replacing the voltage regulators for example) but i wonder how much this board will use.
fosap··on Ask HN: What are your 2014 Predictions?
Unfortunately on the hardware side I haven't done more than ordering a LCD and trying out several switches, and on the software side I'm not beyond POC software. I'm still not sure what kind of interface i want. Currently I think it should be RPL alike, but i see some UX issues i'd like to solve sometime. Sorry, no link.
fosap··on Ask HN: What are your 2014 Predictions?
I'm looking forward for this. My prediction is that I don't move forward on my RetroBSD running DIY calculator.
fosap··on Gfycat - Jiffier gifs through HTML5 video conversion
No, every mobile can process a 80ties picture format in tiny resolutions. 90ies computers could do that without a problem without any allocation an needed only a fraction of their cpu. Now we have quadcore cpus clocked at >1 GHz in our mobiles. It's just the saved bandwidth. And, btw, hardware allocation is a way overrated. There is a HEVC software implementation for the iphone. Just compare the complexity of HEVC to GIF.

fosap··on Sexism and Tech and Love
Oh, That was not a critic on the essay, but on you. The Author seems to be quite aware that not everything is sexism, but choose a clickbait headline.
fosap··on Sexism and Tech and Love
So far I saw and feel empathy for about feeling dismissed and belittled. But the "It's because I'm a girl card" is annoying. Could somebody please consider that this can happen to everybody and it at least possible it has nothing to do with your gender?

fosap··on Feminism and Programming Languages
Lingua::Romana::Perligata is gendered. I don't see how it is feminist.

/edit:

Also, Java2K.

fosap··on DIY Cellphone
Actually more interested in a DIY calculator. The milled enclosure by Yoav Sterman looks realy great.
fosap··on Myth: The astronauts didn’t float away because they had heavy boots
I call it bullshit. I just asked that question to a seminar of paedagogic students, without a single person with physics background. 2 Choose answer the first answer, 3 the sencond one, the other 20 choose the correct answer. I expect much better results for students with physics background.

/edit, well bullshit is a bit strong, but replication failed

fosap··on English Has a New Preposition, Because Internet
I'm not a native speaker. If i add a "of", ("because of short attention spans!") that sounds if it was correct in the past aswell, so I'm confused. For me that seems just leaving out the "of", or is there more?
fosap··on Google BBS Terminal
IMO their Unix emulator is a way more impressive. But in the days of CPU-X-eumlator-in-js outdated.

fosap··on The Quest to Build a Truly Free Version of Android
Slavery always requires less thinking.
fosap··on The Quest to Build a Truly Free Version of Android
Freedom and convenience are virtually always antagonists.
fosap··on Cisco to release BSD-licensed H.264 stack
>Without Sun, HP, Digital and Microsoft on board Linux is dead on arrival.

I think the main reason H.264 is so popular is because of the absolutely fantastic x264 encoder. If anybody delivers something radically better (Daala promises to do) it will gain traction. See Opus. I listen only to podcasts by very technical people, and Opus took them in a storm, even without the MPEG LA.
