forgetfulusr··on Chinese military personnel charged for hacking into Equifax
Thankfully they know better and only go for easy(non-nuke)'prey'.
forgetfulusr··on Reasons not to become famous
It is a useful illusion to have while destroying it. Hey, we will fix this in 10 years with our billions. It is a huge pill we incidentally forget we swallow daily. No need to remind.
forgetfulusr··on Flight AC837 on an Emergency Call
Edit: NVM forgot to use my glasses..
forgetfulusr··on Nuclear power is the only green solution (2004)
I agree that we can consume less, it is just a hard policy to push. How will the market be affected? Any politician enacting this change will be hit with the 'destroying the economy'. Is there room for capitalism in that economy? It feels like the idealism wars have doomed us.
forgetfulusr··on Boeing 777X: World’s largest twin-engine jet completes first flight
OT: I would also prefer a 20 yr old car design then a modern 'smart screens everywhere let the car drive for you because it is safer'. Cars were just finoshed back then, but in comes the age of 'Everything as a service'. Cars today are crap. Maybe in another 20 when they fix the batteries.
forgetfulusr··on Goldman to Refuse IPOs If All Directors Are White, Straight Men
Wow, if they even wanted this to be taken seriously they could have just included everyone in on it. Why just this specific class? Refuse anyone that has <same race><same gender><same orientation> on the board. That would have got me atleast thinking about diversity. This just sounds ridiculous.
forgetfulusr··on What's the longest distance that can be traveled by using free transportation?
The casino is 45m away from a major city, and they have a few routes going through it. It isn't in a big town itself, so I hope they can connect me to another big city from there. Casino-touring here I come.
forgetfulusr··on What's the longest distance that can be traveled by using free transportation?
I was underage when I used it, when the shuttle driver asked if I had the years I asked him if they ID on the shuttle or at the entrance of the casino. I stayed on. EDIT: I guess it does discriminate on age. Having trouble editing OP.
forgetfulusr··on What's the longest distance that can be traveled by using free transportation?
Only free transportation I have come across in the Midwest is Free shuttle to nearby casinos. Now I hope they also have a shuttle or two to the next city center but I have my doubts that I can reach Atlantic City from here. I should try that next spring.
forgetfulusr··on Ask HN: What are you doing about Windows 7?
What does lack of further support mean to a user? Will browsers start breaking? Games stop working? I haven't DLed/installed updates on my Win7 for years now, will this be the same?
forgetfulusr··on Chemo Truthers Are the New Anti-Vaxxers
One is to prevent the whole herd from being infected(eradicated possibly), the other is a sick member to choose their way to treat themselves. Grievance is a part of life, it is sad to see members go, but I can't compare between that and the herd disappearing completely(no one left to grief).

EDIT: also I can't help but feel that this claim puts Chemotherapy on the same level of effectiveness as Vaccines. I think all options should be exhausted before we start claiming chemo to be as miraculous as vaccines are.

forgetfulusr··on Chemo Truthers Are the New Anti-Vaxxers
That they are but one is nowhere near as dangerous to the herd as the other. I don't see a need to lump these camps together.
forgetfulusr··on Chemo Truthers Are the New Anti-Vaxxers
Is cancer infectious? How is this anywhere near anti-vaxxers? Don't vaccines mainly exist to treat for something dangerous to the whole herd? Only some small part of the herd even gets cancer.. how is this not discrediting vaccines by even just comparing the two?
forgetfulusr··on Boeing employees mocked FAA in internal messages before 737 Max disasters
It may be Exec culture or just culture in general. We all want to be successful/ better than the competiton. It attracts/feeds our narcissism and eventually gets buried by people who only optimize for profit, success on paper.

Can't we replace the finance folks with software yet? It seems that should be the easiest to automate. They can see it, but of course they are closest to the money, and can't let go.

forgetfulusr··on The sad truth about our boldest climate target
I don't understand this about politics - what needs to be exciting? What does it mean for a politician to be boring? Even back then, I thought politicians are elected to be boring. I am ESL, is this word used differently in politics?and how was Bush exciting? Is it some flashiness he maintained? I think I misunderstand.
forgetfulusr··on How the CIA Overthrew Iran's Democracy in Four Days in 1953 (2019)
and you can say the same about the US. You don't have to repeat it all over the thread. we should stop looking at everything as black and white. Lets discuss reason why it ia in the current state. Would Iran be in this position today if we hadn't tried to install our democracy to them back in the 50s?
forgetfulusr··on How the CIA Overthrew Iran's Democracy in Four Days in 1953 (2019)
If only they had thrown in an anti-Russia propaganda in there they would've had me! /s we are way to easy to play with..
forgetfulusr··on The old internet died and we watched and did nothing
It doesn't feel that natural. I think we should stop resorting to human nature when something fits our mood. Violence is natural but we try to stifle it because it haa few benefits. Greed should be the same. I don't think our current worship of money is healthy for the future - if you believe what they say about climate change atleast.
forgetfulusr··on The StingRay Is Why the 4th Amendment Was Written (2017)
This person is already doing something irrational, you can't expect them to do the most rational thing once they find someone inside. If they were inside just to steal, they would have a plan if they find they are not alone. Now GP's situation had someone staring at them in their kitchen. So the assumed thief has not run away yet. Why would you assume best intentions? Why is it irrational/illogical to attempt to defend yourself at this point?
forgetfulusr··on Julian Assange “slowly dying” and “often sedated” in Belmarsh prison
For some reason I thought that Snowden went to a UK publisher because the US outlets were not interested. Once the Guardian agreed, were the outlets here expected to ignore it?
forgetfulusr··on Julian Assange “slowly dying” and “often sedated” in Belmarsh prison
Hmm, maybe if our 'fourth estate' actually wasn't the govs bitch, Assange's org wouldn't have looked so moral. But here we are.
forgetfulusr··on Scientists Likely Found Way to Grow New Teeth for Patients
More effective since I barely did any regular flossing before. I have(or had) sensitive gums and I would constantly bleed and I never developed a proper technique and habit with regular floss. with this, it feels like everything between the teeth gets flushed. The string floss still gets used when I am out (no more bleeding) but even once I get home I use the Waterpik, and I can still see some bits I missed. This sounds like an ad but I have been super satisfied with a Mornwell wireless oral irrigator. ideal usecase for a wireless charging station, since I always worried about it being wet near wirea with the older ones I had. I am still waiting for something bad to happen to me since this has helped me too much.
forgetfulusr··on Scientists Likely Found Way to Grow New Teeth for Patients
the waterpik is the most useful tool I found this decade. I think I have become over-reliant on it. My teeth barely have any space between them, so I always end up tearing the regular string floss, and I would never be able to reach/cover so many parts of the mouth without a waterpik/ water flosser. Had not heard of oil pulling, thanks!
forgetfulusr··on The Ethical Failures Behind the Boeing Disasters
Someone weighed that the short-term money here was better than long-term. I think that quarterly earnings reports is the wrong optimization for some industries. If only the execs at Boeing could imagine each of their planes carrying suitcases of their Bonuses.
forgetfulusr··on How the U.S. betrayed the Marshall Islands, kindling the next nuclear disaster
I agree if by 'beat a bath to your door' you meant - send a battle ship or two, close down all trade routes to and from the islands and declare it a terror state, in need of freedom and nukilear mat extraction. Sounds more plausible.
forgetfulusr··on We've Just Had the Best Decade in Human History
Practice self sufficiency. Stop relying on companies to gather your food, distill your water, even bring the water to your tap. Expect it all to shut off. No fixing it now, get ready for when it hits the fan. We will adapt or die. Let's hope we can keep some of this knowledge around, oh and those of you with your nice bunkers, dont forget to pass it on to your kids. Lets try not to make the same mistakes next time eh? Good luck and have fun all.
forgetfulusr··on Bot Submissions to Comment Website Can’t Be Distinguished from Human Submissions
I agree with the vote counting and I am curious, is there a forum which only shows comments after you have made a comment on the article itself? As long as empty comments and "this" aren't allowed, it can be a good filter for on topic, more organic discussion.
forgetfulusr··on Google Assistant Can Now Translate Languages on Your Phone
Ah, from the title I thought they figured out how to do it locally on your phone, without being connected to Google. Knowing they are only into making Ad products aka tracking, it would be a shame to get used to such a nice free offering. Thanks but no thanks, I guess us suckers will have to take a few hrs to learn a few of the local language phrases.
forgetfulusr··on Reputation management firms bury Google results by placing flattering content
I have been hearing lots of positive reviews, even from comment boards themselves. It seems like there are some firms that are too good at it. I think the more positive things I end up hearing about someone rich, the worse feeling I get of them, as if they overspent.. the dirtier you are, the more scrubbing you do.
forgetfulusr··on What Happens After Prisoners Learn to Code?
I don't find the hostility to profit absurd. Profit motive also filled the world with crap we don't need. It also accelerated climate change. Through our fossil fuel companies' profit motive. I actually find HN lacking in hostility towards profit, but it seems it's because we selectively choose what to pick up on and remember.
