forevercrashing··on A Year Away from Mac OS
I used Linux (mostly Ubuntu) for somewhere around 10 years on my personal laptops. After using Macs at work for a few years and being frustrated with the music making and photography apps on Linux I made the switch about 3 years ago. There just wasn't anything on Linux that had the polish and ease-of-use of Photos.app and GarageBand/Logic and when I want to engage in creative hobbies, I want my technology to just work. Has Linux made any progress on alternatives to those?
forevercrashing··on The New Firefox and Ridiculous Numbers of Tabs
Surprised to see no mention of Tab Center (https://testpilot.firefox.com/experiments/tab-center) in the comments. I've gotten so used to it that now I find it hard to use a browser with tabs on top. Being able to see more of the page title when tabs are displayed horizontally is extremely useful. There's a search field too. This combined with the "browser.ctrlTab.previews" set to true in about:config (enables MRU tab switching with ctrl-tab) makes managing tabs awesome for me.

the article on Arrival/Story of your Life not being a time-travel story was a recent fail

Loved the book / movie but haven't read that article. Do you have the link? Thanks.

forevercrashing··on Lame showers, dishwashers that don't work, and dirty clothes
> Free societies have a method for knowing how much of something to use or not use; it is called the signaling system of prices.

Ugh. There is no way I would entrust the protection of our environment to "the signaling system of prices".

forevercrashing··on Programming Music: The Applications of Algorithmic Composition [pdf]
> And they should publish the BeatOven source, would love to play around with it.

Seconded! Though I could see something like this being quite valuable if integrated into a DAW like Ableton Live. Maybe plugins that do something like this already exist...does anyone know?

forevercrashing··on NBA Highlights – Search for video of NBA plays
This sort of happens already in NBA games. There's a system called SportVU that tracks XY positioning of players and XYZ positioning of the ball in real-time. Here's a decent article that describes it in more detail: http://www.fastcodesign.com/1670059/moneyball-20-how-missile... . Unfortunately, the data is proprietary.
