Interesting. I have a horrible habit of typing just the beginning of a domain name and then letting the search engine find that website for me. So I end up searching hundreds of times per day. Kagi has not complained to me so far.

I think that clause is in their ToS to prevent actual misuse of the service, e.g. building a scraper. Saying that, I agree that it's a concerning provision.

Welcome to Bulgaria, my friend. The most progressive country in the World!

In all seriousness, if the parent commenter is expecting modern US woke-inspired progressive policies to be driving decision-making anywhere in Europe, they will be disappointed. (I don't like throwing the word "woke" around but have no better way to summarize the difference between the modern progressive movement and the original progressive movement in the US).

Not to defend this very poorly-named movement, but I think the main idea wasn't about defunding the police but about redirecting some of the funds from the police to other social services. Which again, in the case of the British police makes far less sense.

All countries that tightly control their Internet bubble have very free societies: just look at NK, China, Saudi Arabia, Russia, etc. If only the US could have as little spying as those countries!

I really hope you thoroughly investigate this concern before moving to Europe. It's far less "progressive" in some aspects than the Bay Area. In most European countries if you are a mentally ill individual screaming at night in the middle of the city you will either be arrested (and likely hospitalized) for disturbing public order or beaten up by someone local. There are very few places in the world where it's a widely held view that we can just dump mentally ill people on the street if that's what they want.

Progressive politics in the US sadly transformed from mostly socially and economically-oriented (Wilson, Roosevelt) to an amalgamation of Marxism (Boudin), capitalism, wokeism and social impotency that satisfies no one.

Kagi. Search results are far better than DDG, and all the customizations they offer bump the quality higher than Google for me.

Try Kagi - it’s a breath of fresh air.

AdGuard Pro. It’s a paid (one-time fee) app that works almost as well as uBlock Origin on desktop.

Now this page is also broken (iOS Safari). The sidebar menu is open all the way and blocking most of the page. No way to close it. Nice work, Google!

Every time something like this is posted, the thread is littered with a dozen comments about how this should surprise no one, "water is wet", etc. News does not mean that journalists or the readers are shocked or even surprised. It's a new (or updated) piece of information. So yes, it's OK to have a discussion about it without the snarky comments.

How would your proposed solution solve the problem you outline in the first sentence? If the US bans data transfer outside of its jurisdiction then Apple, Microsoft, etc will stop cooperating with secret government data collection programs?

The only people I know personally who left California in the last 2-3 years were pretty apolitical but definitely left-leaning socially. Around a dozen of them. All left due to the cost of living, none were ever "accused" of being republican. To me it sounds like you are mostly regurgitating some toxic Twitter-talk.

Even though this is correct, it doesn’t address all possible consequences. It looks like not all fields were encrypted: at a minimum URLs but also very likely fields like “notes” and more. If you had any sensitive info outside of username/password it’s recommended to start mitigating that.

Note: secure notes is not the same as the “notes” field. Secure notes are encrypted.

Edit: Also it is unclear whether records like Bank Accounts, Social Security Numbers, etc have been fully encrypted.
